Preview Guide: The Bachelorette: Season Premiere 1/10/05 Preview
Reality TV star and fan favorite Jennifer Schefft gets a second chance at love in the third installment of "The Bachelorette," as ABC's hit romance reality series returns on a new night with a two-hour special premiere, Monday, January 10 (9:00-11:00 PM), on ABC. This season "The Bachelorette" says goodbye to the beaches of Southern California and hello to the streets of the Big Apple, as New York becomes the exciting new location for the hit series.
Jen, a 28-year-old from Chicago, was originally introduced to television audiences during the third installment of "The Bachelor" in April 2003, in which Andrew Firestone proposed to her. Although her relationship with Firestone was serious and ultimately ended in heartbreak, Jen remains a hopeless romantic and is optimistic about finding her husband on "The Bachelorette."
In a first for the series, Jen actually helped select the men who will vie for her heart. As for the qualities of her ideal mate, she says: "My husband needs to be someone who is down-to-earth yet ambitious. I want us to be able to connect on all levels. This show found Trista the man of her dreams and now it's my hope to find the one man with whom I can spend the rest of my life."
Jen's hunt for Mr. Right will take place against the backdrop of one of the most exhilarating cities in the world. The streets of New York will be her playground as she and the new men in her life take in Madison Square Garden for a Knicks game, the Empire State Building, Little Italy and a boat ride in Central Park. Jen and one special guy are serenaded with a surprise performance by hit Lava Records' R&B/pop vocalist and actress Vanessa Williams at Harlem's Cotton Club. Other special dates include a romantic cruise around Manhattan and another private concert by popular Concord Records jazz singer Peter Cincotti at the new Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Time Warner Building.
In the premiere episode, "No. 301," two of Jen's best friends, Michelle and Abby, have some surprises in store for the men. Unbeknownst to the guys, Jen's friends pose as waitresses during the opening party so that they can get the inside scoop on the guys' true intentions. This time around, the men seem to thrive on the high energy New York atmosphere, ratcheting up the competition between them. Who will crack under the pressure?
During the season premiere, Jen meets the following 25 suitors:

Jen will get to know these 25 men through a series of group gaherings and exotic, one-on-one romantic dates. She will introduce some of the men to her closest friends and family, and will also visit their hometowns to meet their parents in an effort to determine the most desirable and compatible prospect.
"The Bachelorette" follows a gradual process of elimination, as Jen is initially presented with 25 suitors, then on the season premiere narrows it down to 15 by presenting each with a single, red rose. At any point along the way, however, should any of the men decide that he is no longer interested in the Bachelorette, he may reject Jen's invitation to continue dating.
"The Bachelorette" provides an in-depth, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lives of each participant involved in this unique dating process. At the end of the journey, Jen will have had an unforgettable experience, made new friendships and quite possibly found true love. Should Jen find her guy at end of the courtship, will she propose to him? And if she does, will he say yes?
"The Bachelorette" with Trista Rehn (2003), which resulted in her marriage to Ryan Sutter, and Meredith Philips (2004), who is currently engaged to Ian McKee, were both solid performers for ABC during each of the past two seasons. Each edition ranked as ABC's second-highest-rated entertainment series in its respective season in the key Adults 18-49 demographic, behind only "The Bachelor."
Chris Harrison, host of "The Bachelor" and HGTV's popular primetime series, "Designers' Challenge," guides this romantic journey. Harrison knows Jen well, given their association during the previous show. Undoubtedly she will confide in him and possibly get advice as her dating life progresses.
"The Bachelorette" is produced by Next Entertainment in association with Telepictures Productions. Mike Fleiss ("The Real Gilligan's Island," "Big Man on Campus," "High School Reunion") is executive producer. Lisa Levenson, Scott Jeffress and Jason Carbone are co-executive producers.
