AMAZING RACE MOVES TO FRIDAY NIGHT 8-9 PM
« on: May 14, 2014, 09:14:56 AM »
FRIDAYS – At 8:00 PM, THE AMAZING RACE becomes the latest Emmy Award-winning reality series to open Friday night. It joins the top-rated duo of HAWAII FIVE-0 at 9:00 PM and the night’s #1 program, BLUE BLOODS, at 10:00 PM

SUNDAYS= Two key time period changes bolster the night. The renowned 60 MINUTES, television’s #1 news program, returns at 7:00 PM. Joining the night at 8:00 PM is the new stately drama series MADAM SECRETARY, providing an ideal bridge between 60 MINUTES and one of television’s finest dramas, THE GOOD WIFE, at 9:00 PM. The popular CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION is new to the night at 10:00 PM. When it completes its run of original episodes, the new CSI spinoff, CSI: CYBER, will take over, creating an extended run of original episodes in the time period

THIS SUCKS.

TAR's BIGGEST RIVAL IS NOW DATELINE AND LAST MAN STANDING  :groan:

Oh well, I hope TAR still does well. :(

The ratings for this season probably caused the shift :/

Worst decision by CBS ever. Mark my words, this will be the slow death of the show.

The fact that the Tea Leoni Scandal rip off is on Sunday competing against Once Upon a Time also sucks. TAR could hold itself off on Sundays pretty well (even with this season), so why fix what wasn't broken?   :umn: :groan:

Yes, TAR Friday nights at 8:00 pm.  Is this the end?

Victoria has some surprises despite being currently jailed. Just watch out for it next season with less competition.  :<3

But kidding aside, it's a sign that the show's going to be nearing the chopping block.

It's right before Shark Tank, which has been in the same time slot (successfully) for a few years now.  Still, it does seem like it's getting buried.  Sunday nights now officially unwatchable on CBS.

It's official. With this time slot, ABC is now going to win Sundays. I'm sure the Scandal rip off is gonna tank. Shark Tank and TAR fighting is not good. Hopefully it does miracles for the show or the next season will be phenomenal enough. :(

TAR is a show I hold near and dear to my heart (one of the reasons I got into reality tv watching in the first place), and seeing it in this state is horrifying :/

Madam Secretary getting canned might be the best news for TAR. OTOH, if it does well, maybe they'll move it to a spot previously held by another cancelled new show.  Either way, it could create the path to get TAR back to Sunday, which is important (in terms of a 26th season); Undercover Boss returns later on and might end up in the Friday 8PM slot.

Too soon to tell, but what an awful move.  Not shocking at all IMO, but not great.  Fridays in autumn are pretty big for football.  Not NFL, but a couple big time football games (on ESPN and FS1 mainly).  For High school football, it's not a TV hit, but a lot of families that are fans of the show might be occupied with their kids Friday football activities.

Finally, if you thought a pre-emption for the ACMs were bad, if TAR is on Fridays in the spring, well, it'll be rather difficult to find an alternate night during two consecutive weeks of NCAA Tourney action, including Thursday & Friday nights.  I guess we'll see; they almost had the show's 6th season airing first-run episodes on a Saturday a decade prior, but made the move (to Tuesday back then) at the last minute.  For the survival of the show, it would be nice if they did the same thing, but I doubt it.

:groan:  OMG, this is the "kiss of death" for TAR.  Friday night is where shows go to die.  :ascared

Isn't Friday night "date night"?  Talk about kissing-off the 18-26 demographic, not that they had any significant share of that market.  Oh well, there's always the "granny factor".  :funny:  Maybe they can save Phil from oblivion.  Can't really complain, 25 seasons was a good run.  Guess Jeff Probst @ Survivor gets the last laugh.  He truly is the sole survivor.  (:;)

As you sow, so shall you reap.

I love TAR so much, but I must admit there was a decline in quality of the show. It didn't bring a new country since Paraguay and Azerbaijan in season 20. It became quite monotonous, with too many linear legs a equalizers and no real competition...

I think this shift is the resault of low ratings of season 24 -- the 24th best US season ever (aka the worst one :D ).

I feel like the only chance for TAR ratings boost is hidden here. New countries, new teams (no celebs) and producers with respect and humility!

I wonder if Friday night is even still a death sentence, given the emergence of online viewership and the use of DVRs?

And even if -- god forbid -- the show does get canned by CBS... isn't the show produced (at least in part) by ABC? If CBS decided to ax the show, I'm sure ABC wouldn't mind picking up a 9-time Emmy award winner. :duno:

If TAR continues to get the same 1.6-1.9 on Fridays, then the show might be safe. For a little bit.  If it gets higher and does "Shark Tank" numbers, then WOW.  Big win.

But if TAR falls lower than what it's been getting on Sundays (and that's a huge possibility on Fridays), then TAR's in trouble. =(

At the same time, if Madam Secretary bombs on Sundays (and honestly, between "60 Minutes" and "Good Wife"? Don't expect a breakout hit there.) then I could see TAR move right back IF it hasn't fallen too much on Fridays.

I posted this one year ago:

Since peaking around TAR 15, ratings have tended to decline by a predictable amount each year.

TAR 16 averaged 2.8-3.2
TAR 18 averaged 2.5-2.8
TAR 20 averaged 2.5-2.8 (interestingly there was no decline)
TAR 22 averaged 2.3-2.5 (remarkably stable this year)

Given the weaker-rated shows on CBS Sundays, the show is safe until it dips below a 2.0, which won't be for at least three cycles.

Unfortunately the show has declined more rapidly than expected (twice as much as previous years), but I didn't anticipate two subpar seasons in a row. TAR will probably live out the rest of its days on Fridays if it can maintain higher than a 1.5. Anything below that puts it cancellation zone unless CBS takes another huge dip in ratings across the board as it did this year.

Maybe there were too many similarities between TAR and AMC's Walking Dead on Sunday night.
It was confusing viewers. I was expecting to see Phil at Terminus...

Undercover Boss did well last season in that Friday night timeslot for CBS, and the thinking may be that with DVR viewing proportions being what they are, this will help those who like watching over a weekend. And both Hawaii Five O and Blue Bloods also did well against the other broadcast nets on Friday nights.
As it has been on Sunday,DVR time shifted viewing past 2 am ET Sunday night did not help TAR in the weekly ratings, because the numbers could not take into account live plus three viewing at a minimum. With a Friday night timeslot, it will be at least two days of time shofted viewing that will be included.
Internally, CBS takes into account plus three, plus 7 and plus 30, as well as alternate platforms and international syndication as well as having an ownership interest in its shows in deciding what to do. That is why The Mentalist is still on the air even though its 10pm Sunday night numbers are worse than TAR was a 8pm, especially the international and studio income part.

What will be interesting to see if TAR gets an On Demand slot this coming season like every other CBS show (including both Survivor and Undercover Boss), At least now CBS even has an On Demand presence -- its new for the network.

I hope TAR can prosper with this new change. Hopefully season 25 isn't the last season.
Stupid All-Stars. Naming something All-Stars automatically makes it suck in TAR.
