Previously on The Amazing Race...

9 teams raced from China to Malaysia... A traffic jam to the airport put Brenchel on the second flight.

At the roadblock, Cord took a plunge. YouTube were stranded at the roadblock because they didn't have a taxi.

Some teams took a wild ride at the detour, falling off their rafts.

Dave & Connor came in 1st and Joey & Meghan were eliminated. 8 teams remain... Who will be eliminated next?

It's official. TAR has emulated Survivor for the opening montage.  What a shame given the montage upgrade from last year.

Dave & Connor depart 1st at 9:06 AM. Proceed to the longhouse at Prince Philip Park. You have $98 for this leg of the race. The last time they raced, they had to go out on this leg.

Jet & Cord depart at 9:08 AM. Leo & Jamal depart at 9:14 AM.

Cowboys arrive first. Roadblock already??? Teams will have to jump on a bouncy bamboo thing () and grab a flag above them, adjusted to their height. Jet says there's a 30 jump limit? Cord is doing the roadblock.

Dave & Connor arrive after.Connor clearly does it.

Leo & Jamal arrive. Leo does it.

Wow. Connor finishes first. Fly to Kuala Lumpur and search for their next clue. Warning. There are only 3 flights and seats are limited.

Leo finishes the roadblock. Cord is on his 10th jump. Dave & Connor arrive at the airport. They made the first flight.

Margie & Luke depart 4th at 9:58 AM. Wow, so far behind. Aw! Margie & Luke talk about Luke coming out! :hearts:

Afghanimals are the 2nd team who made it on the 1st flight. Only 3 teams can make it on the first flight.

Jet: The problem with the task is it involved a lot of Cord-ination. :funny: Cord still having trouble. Oh. I guess there is no 30 jump limit. Cord gets it on his 47th jump.

Margie & Luke arrive at the roadblock. Luke's going to do it.

Margie & Luke depart 4th and talk about Luke's sexuality.
Jet & Cord still have no "cord"inaction for the Roadblock and finally they grab it. :funny:
Luke does the Roadblock while cowboys are on the first flight.
The Globetrotters depart 5th while Margie & Luke finish the RB.

How can Big Easy NOT get the flag on their first try? :funny:

The country singers depart 6th.

Cowboys get on the first flight. The second flight leaves 1 hour and a half after.

Flight Time & Big Easy depart 5th at 11:04 AM. Aw. Globes talk to some kids before leaving!

Luke finishes the roadblock.

Globes arrive at the roadblock and Big Easy is doing it.

Margie & Luke arrive at the airport and they find out they'll be on the 2nd flight. Only 1 other team will make the 2nd flight. The last 3 teams will be on the 3rd flight.

Big Easy finishes the 5th flight.

Caroline & Jennifer depart 6th at 11:17 AM. Aw. A bunch of kids follow them!

Globes are on the 2nd flight.

Caroline & Jennifer arrive at the roadblock. Caroline is doing the roadblock.

Jessica & John depart 7th at 12:13 PM. Jessica & John talk about how they were racing 1st every time last leg, but now they have a different mindset. Flashback to their elimination, lol.

Caroline finishes the detour in 6th.

Jessica & John arrive at the roadblock.

Country singers are on the last flight.

Jessica could not get the rhythm and she keeps falling on her butt after jumping.

Brenchel depart last at 12:45 PM. They say they have a way different approach this time. Last time, they just wanted to make it to the final. This time, they want to win the million. Rachel said that Brendon promised her babies if they win, LOL. :funny:

Back at the roadblock, Jessica's getting some medical attention for her feet. It's all blistered and nasty. :(

Jessica continues jumping after getting medical attention. She gets it!!! :hrt: She looks like she's in pain.

Brenchel arrive at the roadblock. Rachel does it. Rachel's rhythm is totally off. Brendon with the title. Rachel wears pantyhose but it made her slip so she took them off lol. Rachel gets it after she takes them off, lol. Rachel tells ladies that they should take their pantyhose off if they're going to jump on trampolines.

First flight departs. They will be 1.5 hours ahead.

There's a delay for the second flight. They're delayed 50 minutes!

The second flight has become the third flight now. :o The third flight leaves 5 minutes before the second flight!!! Last time, Margie & Luke were eliminated right before Flight Time & Big Easy...

Looks like 2nd and 3rd flight will get in at around the same time.

First flight lands and teams get taxis to go to Petronas Twin Towers. Afghanimals get there first. The towers are incredible! Detour: Mix Master or Master Mix.

Proceed to Sky Bar.
Mix Master: Pick a scratch coach and learn how to DJ. Once their performance is up to scratch, the DJ will hand them their next clue.
Master Mix: Properly poor a pyramid of cocktails without mixing colours.

Afghanimals pick cocktails. Dave & Connor pick cocktails. Jet & Cord pick cocktails. Dave and Jet & Cord say they have no rhythm lol.

Afghanimals arrive at the Sky Bar first. This place looks crazy fun.

Wow this cocktail detour looks difficult.

All 3 teams are now at cocktails. Lol, Dave & Connor don't even drink.

Afghanimals fail at their first attempt. The red and yellow drinks blend.

Second flight arrives right before the last one. Margie & Luke and Globes pick to get a van together. There seems to be a lack of taxis for the last flight. Looks like Jessica & John and Brenchel are sharing a taxi van and Caroline & Jennifer have their own cab.

Afghanimals go for their 3rd attempt... But they break a bunch of the glasses. "Oy vey." :funny:

Cowboys fail on their attempt. There's a certain arc you need to get the colours right. Connor fails.

Brenchel and Jessica & John pick their detour clues. Rachel wants to do cocktail because she used to be a cocktail waitress. All teams grab the detour clue and are off to Sky Bar.

Connor's 7th attempt are close. His 1st and last glasses mixed. Afghanimals aren't very close at all.

Cowboys are getting close, but they still can't get it.

Afghanimals switch detour. There are 4 practice stations, so it's first come first serve.

Cowboys finish the detour in 1st! Pit stop: Batu Caves. The last team to check in may be eliminated.

Afghanimals are doing practice DJing right now.

Brenchel and JJ arrive at the detour. Wow. Dave & Connor have been doing this detour for 2 hours. Country singers arrive.

Connor is on his 12th attempt... And he gets it! Dave & Connor are out of the detour in 2nd.

Afghanimals are still in practice and they see JJ, country singers and Globes arrive at the DJing practice stations.

Commercial.

We're back. Each person in the team has to do 7... scratches twice? I don't know the term.

Globes try first. Afghanimals are going to try after them. Globes go on the dance floor. Margie & Luke and Brenchel are having trouble with cocktails.

Globes don't get it right. They have to go back to practice. Afghanimals are going next. They have to listen to the beat and then each team member has to do it. The beat will change and they'll have to copy it. HOW MANY TRACKS ARE THERE. Oh wow. 7 tracks. AFGHNIMALS FINISH IT ON THEIR FIRST TRY! They're actually likeable??? They're out of the detour in 3rd.

Cowboys think they're first to the pit stop right now... Race between Cowboys and Dave & Connor? Not really, lol. Jet & Cord are team #1! They won a trip to London.

Dave & Connor are team #2.

Pit stop:
1st - Jet & Cord
2nd - Dave & Connor

Globes and JJ are going to go try DJing on the dance floor. Caroline says that scratching is not close to singing, and singing is not a transferrable skill. :funny:

Margie & Luke still having trouble with cocktails.

Globes are going for their attempt, but they are booed. Jessica & John are trying now but they aren't approved either. Brenchel are really struggling on the detour, and they think about switching. Brenchel get really close. Margie & Luke are still not very close. Luke is super frustrated and Margie tells him to get rid of that frustration.

Jessica & John fail again. Globes trying again. Flight Time messes up. Country singers are now trying.

Brenchel fail on their 20th attempt. Margie is close on her 19th attempt, but still no.

Caroline & Jennifer are doing really well, wow. WOW THEY FINISH THE DETOUR IN 4TH!

Leo & Jamal arrive at the pit stop in team #3. Jamal says that cowboys are tough to beat.

Pit stop:
1st - Jet & Cord
2nd - Dave & Connor
3rd - Leo & Jamal

WOW JESSICA & JOHN FINISH THE DETOUR IN 5TH???

Margie and Brenchel still having trouble. Brenchel on their 28th attempt. Margie & Luke on their 23rd attempt.

Globes finish the detour in 6th! WOW.

Margie & Luke and Brenchel are the last 2 teams. Luke says this is really frustrating and he thought about the tea challenge. Margie tells Luke he has low frustration level. Luke drops the glasses on the floor, and they break. He goes to the washroom. Margie waits outside.

Back with Margie & Luke. Margie tells Luke to clean up the glasses that he broke.

Brenchel are trying to cheer Luke up! Aw! Brenchel sign applause for him! And Brendon hits Luke on the bum lol.

Country singers arrive at the pit stop in 4th. Jessica & John are team #5.

Luke thinks about taking a time penalty. Margie asks Brenchel if they want to do the penalty. Rachel says she doesn't want to and she encourages Margie to continue.

Flight Time & Big Easy are team #6.

Margie says Luke's behaviour totally changed after Rachel talked to them. Margie & Luke finish the roadblock before Brenchel!

Margie & Luke are team #7! At the mat, they talk about how Rachel was so encouraging.

Pit stop:
1st - Jet & Cord
2nd - Dave & Connor
3rd - Leo & Jamal

LEG 4 (Malaysia) EPISODE ANALYSIS
An all-Malaysia Leg, all the time. Although the mandatory flights are pointless because it created no extreme transportation panic, the partially challenging Detour made up for the idiocrasy. The Petronas Towers at night is a beautiful sight to see especially when Kuala Lumpur is luminescent throughout downtown. The club music played honestly relieved me from listening to the boring modern TAR's localized music for a change. Other than that, I have no other comments for this Leg as there was no other happenings except for the major tasks.

ROADBLOCK: The bamboo trampoline Roadblock was a bit tough for selected teams, but ultimately pointless as every team caught up while waiting for their flights to Kuala Lumpur.
ROADBLOCK SCORE: 4/10

DETOUR: (Master Mix or Mix Master)
The Detour kept really good sustenance in the difficulty level of both options. In the DJ scratching, teams had to pay close attention to the noises from the boomboxes. If teams make the slightest mistake whether one scratch more or less, they will have to start the seven tracks all over again. In the cocktail trick, teams had loads of issues finding the correct way of pouring seven drinks simultaneously even smashing glasses at one point... Luke :res:.
DETOUR SCORE: 10/10

OTHER SCORES
LEG DIFFICULTY: 8/10
TEAM DRAMA: 6/10
ANGER MANAGEMENT: 2/10
Overall Score: 8/10

Omg the Detour was so great <3  loved it

Brenchel growing up was so great and I love them even more! Yay it was a non elimination leg <3

I just wish we could have had a different Roadblock in Kuala Lumpur and we didn't have mid leg travel, because it almost never works out well.

At least this time a great Detour kind of nullified the mid leg travel and it worked decently well.

A few things I noticed.

Cord and Jet were no more experienced in bartending than Dave and Conner were, but Cord in particular went several times to watch the real bartender do the task, and he was studying it very carefully. That, and their patience got them, especially Cord through both the roadblock and the detour.

Rachel has really made an effort to stay calm this season, and it rubbed off on Luke. It probably will help Luke further in the Race than just that task. Even John and Jessica are showing a new leaf this season compared to their original season.

It's been an interesting dynamic not to have teams baiting and fighting each other. Reminds me of the good ole days. I liked this leg a lot, as the tasks were not as simple as it might have seemed, and challenged the teams a lot. This on top of the physical challenges last week point to this season returning to a far more challenging and less simplistic approach to the tasks, a trend that I like a lot.

You know you need to CHILL when Rachel R., former Big Brother crazy girl, is the one calming you down. Very valuables lessons learned this Leg.

The Batu Caves are stunning! Just how I remembered them from TAR11's Route Info. :wohoo:
It's a shame they couldn't run up the endless amount of stairs to the Pit Stop. That would have been pretty awesome.

IIRC, TPTB used that street intersection location near the Petronas Towers in the past for route information clues. But I do believe its the first time at night. And yes, we've seen the Batu Caves before, and some of this season's teams would be able to get up those stairs a lot faster than other teams. (Shades of the Great Wall back in TAR 1 :) )

Did anybody else feel that the Brenchel plot in this episode strongly reeks of winner edit?
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move

Have to say I am disappointed in transportation this season. AGAIN! production provided the flights. This is ALLSTARS!! We should be seeing teams hunting for their own way.  :groan: Not the dumbed down version.

This season is somewhat disappointing not only in production providing flights but also the legs have all felt a bit short when it comes to actual tasks. Do they have a reduced budget or something because I feel that most of the legs in recent memory have been short compared to legs in other editions and even earlier editions of TAR. Probably not the place to discuss this though xD

What a Detour <3333

For a replacement leg, all I can say is WOW.

The predetermined flights and no proper intro is still disgusting but oh well.

Cast Ranking For Leg 4:

LOVE:

Brendon & Rachel- They continue to surprise. They have the hilarious moments (Rachel's pantyhose lmao), and they are genuinely nice people and even though they were last, they #NeverGiveUp. The only REAL All-Star in this cast left, and I wish them all the best next week on their mad connection and Speed Bump #TeamBrenchel :').

Jessica & John- Mad props to Jessica for finishing the Roadblock and pushing through the pain with her foot. They are going along well as a very very fun couple, and while again, (i repeat) they are FAR from being All-Stars, they are a completely rootable and humble team. Not to mention they finished a whole DJ performance after the Country Singers left, and then they checked in a mere seconds after CaroJen. It should be VERY VERY interesting to see them racing along with everyone without the disgusting flight bunches we've seen since Leg 3.

Caroline & Jennifer- One word. HAPPY. They are racing along well with the enthusiasm being super high. They continue to be a solid, competitive team, and I am definitely rooting for them. They pushed through that DJ task like it was NOTHING.

Margie & Luke- Margie is still most definitely "the bionic woman". She pushes through tasks like they were nothing, and she continues to be the driving force of the team, excelling through challenges and never giving up, even if Luke melts down and wants to quit, Margie will keep on fighting.

Leo & Jamal- A bit under the radar this leg, but still very very likable. Racing along well, being generally nice, and ultimately a fun cousins team. They are FAAAAAAAR from being the best M/M post UB, but they sure are jumping up a lot of spots up.

DISLIKE:

Dave & Connor- Welcome to the Dave & Connor Achilles Inspirational Talk 2.0! :res:

HATE:

Flight Time & Big Easy- LOOUUUUUD. They continue to be loud, annoying, and grating, and I would have very much seen the Flight Time & Big Easy from the first leg than the one now. The only good thing I can say about them right now is that the cocky Flight Time & Big Easy haven't emerged yet. But I guarantee, we WILL see that side of them again. :res:

Jet & Cord- Ugh. Another first place for them. Not only are they totally unrootable, they continue to get their forced and annoying music, and not to mention the fact that they seem like they don't even know what show they're on. While teams like Brendon & Rachel and Country as well as JJ!!!! are completely happy to be racing, they seem like they are going through the motions. Please, PLEASE be eliminated soon.

This leg... the detour made it better. :colors
- The leg is... short. It felt short. The roadblock looks tough, but not time consuming. There were flights in the middle of the leg. The detour made it better at least. I was wishing for an ARI since the rb seemed really short. From these, I think there's a cancelled leg, and this leg was the sub.
- Cord taking 47 attempts at the rb. :funny: They're funny at least at the part with the cord-ination. :funny:
- The detour is awesome. From the detour names, to the tasks themselves.
- The roadblock looked hard... but fast. Just today, but before, I can't even imagine someone falling to 3rd place after 47 attempts. :funny:
- The 2nd flight being delayed, but luckily catching up with the 3rd.
- CaroJen making a miracle this leg, especially at the detour. Tbh, I don't like this team, but they deserve a 1st place this leg, too bad they were on the 2nd "batch."
- 3rd consecutive time with a short intro. :res: I skip the intro sometimes, but I miss it. :(
- The Afghanimals are entertaining to watch, especially this leg. I think they deserve a 1st place win soon. It's just too bad they can't win over the cowboys. :funny:
- Malaysian semi-night leg: Not bad, I just don't like the leg structure (the one with a flight in the middle). The Malaysian night lights are awesome.
- Rachel is keeping her calm. At least she changed for the better this season.
- The teams from the back could barely catch up. :( So for these 2 Malaysian legs, prod'n prepared the flights for the teams. If flights are limited, then we can't do anything. :( But teams like JJ and Brenchel could not catch up to the 1st batch. If leg 3 were a NEL, YouTube most likely won't make it with the 1st batch. :( At least there will be a Brenchel flight drama on the next leg. :yess:

The thing I'm feeling pretty concerned about is the leg structure and tasks compared to last season. :( Both 1st legs suck. :res: But the 2nd leg was better than the 1st legs. Then the 3rd leg, all the way to... I forgot, of last season was great. Then the 3rd and 4th leg of this season divided the teams by flights. On the 3rd leg, if they had the flight with more teams become the last flight, it would've been better I guess. For leg 4, I think I don't like having a flight in the middle of the leg.

I hope the tasks for the next leg will be better. :hoot:

Is it me or Rachel is enjoying this season more than the first one? I mean, without Art/JJ and Vanessa she looks like having no extra pressure of dealing with the bickering and the continued fights. And now we can see another side of her.

I've always thought without adversity or hate, Rachel flows well. Art and JJ and Vanessa are just crap tbh and worst than her in TAR 20.

She did alot better in BB the second time around, with the calming influence of Jordan, and the early boot of Dani

I think the race is fixed :funny:  I think last night's leg was going to be an elimination, but barring viewer outrage, (Rachel helping Marge and Luke thus putting themselves in last place)they changed it to non-elimination.  Good for them, I probably would have stopped watching this season if Brenchal had been eliminated because of this.

these non elimination legs are predetermined

There are attorneys on site to be sure of this.

As a lawyer I can say that's absolutely true. For example in my legal system companies that give prizes or start a competition usually deposit the terms of these or even the numbers of the winning lottaries in a public notary to assure the participants of their impartiality. Most likely the producers of TAR before each race they give to a third impartial party (like a lawyer, a notary) a list of all the legs and their predetermined outcome, EL or NEL or TBC to protect themselves from lawsuits from eliminated teams.

  • An original TARfly
In the US, TAR is governed by rules for game shows adopted by the Federal Communications Commission, and under those rules, they have to provide all the details of the route, tasks, and alternate routes, legs and tasks; and would include the elimination points/legs in an affidavit that is sealed before filming starts.

This has been known since season one, and the rules have not been changed in that time. A competition show, is a game show, and that's why those rules apply. The game show rules originated in the US following a quiz show scandal in the 1950s that was the subject of a major motion picture (1994) "Quiz Show," directed by Robert Redford, and starring  Ralph Fiennes, John Turturro, amd Rob Morrow, and which was nominated for four Academy Awards.

I just finally was able to watch the episode, and I can't really believe what I'm reading here...

We have always known and there is proof that every Non Elimination Leg is predetermined before the race starts... No matter who is in last place if it is a NEL there is nothing to do about it...

I've never been on Brenchel side, I've always thought Rachel is just annoying and as Margie said "the biggest crybaby" but I have to admit encouraging Luke and Margie to keep going without taking the penalty, that prayer that she did with Brendam, the idea that she refused to give up, unlike her original season was awesome it made me see a side of her that I've never considered. I hope I see more of that.

It was a cool leg. Still think that this legs have been incredible short. The detour was great, both sides were challenging, and see Jessica another racer that I've never really thoght about just go with her feets like that was really cool to watch.

Really good episode, probably the best so far... but still the legs are too short... or they seem to short because all the teams are really close to each other.

I think I'm the only one alone here but the night leg in KL was bad. Besides getting to see the Petronas Tower at night, the fact that there's only one task in KL??? and where all the male teams got an advantage for it AGAIN for 2 legs in a row.

We knew that Brendon and Rachel were going to be NEL'ed based on spoilers and I also knew that Margie and Luke were going to be in 7th place because going into the next leg, they were "dead last". But I just didn't expected it to be down to both teams which I really like this season. Wow for Rachel, nothing but applause for her and for Luke, to change his attitude and make up for his tantrum. There's always this dynamics for these teams which made them so fun to watch.. as compared to teams like Jet and Cord and Dave and Connor, who's just really cruising through and even had bad puns like they are butter cause they are on a roll? :res: (More like big losers because this will be the 3rd million dollars they will lose LOL)

Disliked the Roadblock placed before the flights, disliked the assigned flights, disliked the unfair Detour choice, disliked that both Detours are at the same location (which is a good location to actually place a W-TURN?), disliked the music mixing Detour which is more like a no-brainer than an actual task. The only thing that delivered for me was the cocktail thing which is the first time we've actually seen teams doing something like that. To be honest, that would have been a good Fast Forward task IMHO. (You really need to be good to do it well and if not, you just suffer)

One of the worst legs of this season, and I was so bored throughout, knowing that the Roadblock didn't matter, the flights were sucky (except for the random delay <3) and going into the Detour, it was just a matter of those teams who did the music mixing will complete before those who did the cocktails.

The editors are just biased towards them I guess. They get a feature EVERY week and then, even when there's a recap, they say things like "Cord took a plunge" (referring to the RB in Leg 3), and there I'm like... EVERY MEMBER IN A TEAM WHO DID THE ROADBLOCK TOOK A PLUNGE... Is that the most exciting you can say about the Cowboys?

And then I realized, yes.. that's the most exciting thing you can get from the Cowboys. The fact that they are always first and they get a feature or mention, and when they fall to the back, it's surprising and they get a feature and mention AGAIN? So what does that mean...? The editors are just biased. Duh.

I can't believe they made teams from Leg 2 like John and Jessica and Brendon and Rachel to keep getting a disadvantage based on flights. It's just annoying and even if Joey and Meghan made it last leg, it wouldn't have made a difference because they will get disadvantaged AGAIN this leg. Kudos to John and Jessica for sticking it through. <3 Liking their humility more each day BUT they are still really under the radar.

TBH I loved the leg in Kuala Lumpur and I thought it was great with the Detour. I did wish there was more in KL but what was there was really good. I didn't mind the assigned flights because they were spaced well, it's just that I wished that there was a more difficult Roadblock in sabah that would have made more of a position shuffle.

I agree by 150% on the boldfaced texts.
1.) Unfair detour choice: Luke has the disadvantage. :(
2.) Why is there no W-turn on the preview for the 5th leg. :gaah: When will it pop-out?
3.) It's been a while since we've seen more FFs. :( This cocktail detour was just PERFECT! I can't believe I never noticed that. They should have that task as a switchback, because it is the best task for the whole season... so far.
4.) I remembering mentioning this, even the YouTube getting a disadvantage. Imo, I think JJ would've gotten a higher placement for the 2 recent legs if there were no assigned flights to teams.

I understand what you mean, Jimmer. I think I was being too critical to really enjoy a Detour that could have been really good without all the factors I've mentioned. Can you imagine that if this is an elimination leg and Luke and Margie can only do one Detour choice and actually gets eliminated because of that?? How unfair would that have been. :( That was why I said I didn't enjoy the Detour, considering that it's Allstars, they could have thought through this more thoroughly even if it had been a replacement leg. Who says replacement legs can't be good? Why does it always have to be sloppish? It's time for TAR to prove otherwise? :(
