TAR Canada - Season 2 gets the green light!
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:18:48 PM »
CTV Orders Season 2 of THE AMAZING RACE CANADA

– Canada’s most-watched program of the summer and the #2 program of the entire broadcast year greenlit for second season –
– Season 2 auditions opening later this fall –

http://www.ctv.ca/theamazingracecanada/newseason.aspx

I would guess the ratings had something to do with the renewal...
Quote
Canada’s most-watched program of the summer and the #2 program of the entire broadcast year, the blockbuster, record-breaking, fan-favourite THE AMAZING RACE CANADA raced ahead of the pack with an average audience of 3.3 million viewers each week. The smash-hit, original series vaulted into the record books earlier this summer as the biggest debut on record for a series in Canada (3.5 million viewers), and has kept pace ever since.

Will they go outside of Canada? My guess is they will, but to countries and locations that have some sort of cultural attachment to Canada and that Air Canada flies to directly and frequently.
From there to here, and here to there,
funny things are everywhere

I think they haven't decided, because they haven't said if it will be Canadian or International travel like they did with the first press releases for the first season.

Edit
Now if we could get a Canadian Survivor

You know what would be awesome? Treating the show like Survivor or The Mole and doing each season in a different country/region. Like if this season was "the Canada season", next season could be "the Mediterranean season" or "the Central American season". It'd be an easy way to make the show feel fresh each season (if they keep it Canada-only it'll get repetitive by season three, as China Rush has shown), but it'll still be small-scale enough to keep costs down as needed. And Air Canada's a member of the Star Alliance group of airlines, so in addition to its own routes they're affiliated with (among others) Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Thai Airways, and United, which opens up the possibilities enormously.

I don't think Star Alliance would trouble itself with a reality TV show, honestly.

 :wohoo: :wohoo:

I think they will stay in Canada, but maybe cross the border for 2 pit stops.
Hope

They went to Québec.  :oh

But there are countless other parts of Canada they could still do - there are 3 provinces they didn't visit at all.  My guess is they stay in Canada for season 2.  Beyond that, they will likely have to travel abroad to keep it new and exciting.

My guess is they'll go international. If this is going to be filmed in February, pretty much anywhere in Canada they'd go to would have snow, which might get tiresome after a while. But if they go to places like the Caribbean, Mediterranean Europe, or anywhere in the southern hemisphere, that'd be nice and refreshing for any Canadians watching the show who are getting tired of snow  :funny:

Looks like we will have a mix of international and Canadian travel for season 2!

The eligibility requirements also say "Your Team must be available and willing to participate in the Race for a period of approximately thirty (30) days, on such dates to be determined by Producer in its sole discretion, with approximately twelve other Teams." Thirteen teams? Does that make any sense - even the original series has only 11. Does anyone remember last year's requirements?

last year it said something like approximately ten other teams,  but it was never specific like that.

Yeah nowhere on the site does it say anything about this being a Canada only race, and you need a valid passport, it's probably going international for at least part of it.

"Q: Will the race travel outside of Canada?
A: Stay tuned. We’ll share more information about the route closer to the broadcast. Keep checking this show page and the CTV Facebook page or follow @AmazingRaceCDA on Twitter to find out for the latest announcements."

Last season it said within Canada.

TARCan1 didn't go to Montreal and the girls in the pink jackets look like the sisters from last season.

My guess: It's a Commercial to get people to sign up with Celina and Vanessa saying something like "It was amazing, sign up now!"

Confirmed as Promo video. The sisters were in town to encourage teams to apply.

Interesting to note it says grand prize is half a million dollars.

interesting, because bickerton also tweeted the other day that there were half a million dollars in total cash and prizes, not the grand prize but total for the whole season....

Maybe they could fly to some of the Atlantic Islands like Bermuda, or even to England.

Whenever I thought of a Canadian version of Amazing Race going outside Canada, there are two spots that always came to mind:

Cuba - because the US version can't go there. Yes, the Australian version has gone, but I would argue most people in Canada haven't seen the Australian Amazing Race.

France - Specifically, Vimy Ridge. I would like anyone, anywhere, to try and argue for a more emotional and significant Canadian landmark outside of Canada. Would make for a great "Moment of Reflection" part of the Race.

Jon Montgomery has failed to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics and thus won't be defending his gold medal he won in 2010 :(

That's a shame...but the good news is he'll be free for filming whenever!!

He still has a chance but would need to win his final 4 races (highly unlikely at this point) to go to Sochi.

In other news Amazing Race Canada was the most watched regularly scheduled program of the year!
