:conf:  Happy TAR DAY!!! :conf:
Even though we are a spoiler board, we do NOT want to have the episode spoiled while it is airing.

This will be more important than ever this season since Canada will be airing ahead of us any week we have Football delays, which could include this week.

SO!! If you are watching anything but an EST US feed, it is your responsibility to be sure you are not ahead of us if you want to post/update in this thread. Canadian feeds may be way ahead of us.

SO PLEASE ** NO WIKI UPDATES or Satellite Viewer updates or ANY OUTCOMES ** to be posted before the show is done airing East Coast time! Anyone breaking the rule is at risk of being banned.  :browsie:

And NO future spoilers either!

Otherwise, come watch with us for the best weekly viewing party in town!!

We will have a LIVE streaming video posted every week we can find one. So if you are overseas or just on the West Coast and want to watch right away...please join us! You can follow along and PLEASE help update as the show unfolds! We hope everyone will join in the fun!! :wohoo:

LIVE STREAMING VIDEO links will be  HERE and will normally be put up about 20 minutes before show time. These are a good check as to what times we are seeing the show.

Scheduling and delays will be posted HERE.

And you can entertain yourself with the weekly episode threads as well while you wait! **Spoilers**

Have FUN everyone and :tu for joining us!

Some parts of the country on the east coast feed are getting the late CBS game; I'm not one of them, so I can't answer your question.

My area is getting everything on time.

Just started for me. None of the streams work, so I'm about 11 minutes behind.

Two hours before pit start: James' wife tells him that his father has stage 4 cancer. There's no chance of remission. :(

Pit start:

James & Abba depart first at 7:39 AM. Proceed by taxi to Jatrabari Market. Then find a vender selling eggplant.

James & Abba want to keep their lead. "We never want to see another team again." They find the eggplant vender and get the clue. Proceed to Ferry Ghat Road and find your next clue.

Abbie & Ryan depart 2nd at 9:41 AM. $1 for this leg? Ryan wants to beat Dave & Rachel's first record.

Nadiya & Natalie depart at 9:42 AM. They're talking about girl pride, beating the boys, blahblahblah.

James & Abba get the roadblock clue. Roadblock: Use an ancient Bangladeshi scale. They have to build a scale with wood and string. Then they have to balance 4 heavy stones on one side with heavy wood on the other side.

Last leg, James got his knee in sewage, so Abba is doing the roadblock. Abba thinks his scale is built correctly, but it didn't get approved. His ropes are wrong. He can't find the right rope.

Abbie & Ryan and Natalie & Nadiya both get taxis. Natalie & Nadiya tell their taxi driver that they have to beat the"goras" (aka Abbie & Ryan). Apparently goras means white people but it isn't derogatory. Why can't they just say Abbie & Ryan...

Abba finds the right ropes. *I can't tell which is which. Apologies.

Natalie & Nadiya and Abbie & Ryan both arrive at the market. They both get the clue from the eggplant vender.

Josh & Brent depart 4th at 10:53 AM. Brent works on the farm the entire time, and Josh works in the city 5 days a week.

Rob & Kelley depart at 10:59 AM.

Chips depart at 11:10 AM.

Abba's scale gets approved, so he starts to try to balance it. He finishes the roadblock. Detour!

Detour: Straw Dogs or Bamboo Jungle.
Straw Dogs: Help manufacture eco-friendly jute bag.
Bamboo Jungle: Grab 40 bamboo poles of various lengths and put them on a rickshaw. Then deliver it to a construction site.

Ryan & Abbie arrive at the roadblock. Abbie does the roadblock because it says it's not that heavy. Nadiya does the roadblock. "COME ON TWINNIE. COME ON TWINNIE."

Ryan: "Are you going to yell the whole time?" Ryan starts mocking Natalie & Nadiya. Natalie & Nadiya talk about their dislike of Ryan in their confessional. UHHH, I WONDER WHY.

Monster truckers and Chips both get taxis.

Trey & Lexi depart at 11:34 AM. They're really far behind. :ascared Josh & Brent are lost. They can't find the marked taxi stand.

For what we see in the caps here (unless there's another FF involving the jute - you never know  :) -), and the caps in the Pre-race videos thread, is pretty clear that the jute task and the bamboo task are both sides of the Detour.  We can see Ryan & Abbie doing the jute; and Rob & Kelley, Lexi & Trey, Natalie & Nadiya, Jaymes & James, and the Beekmans doing the bamboo.

Back from the commercial. Josh & Brent are still looking for the marked taxi stand.

James & Abba are doing the bamboo. They arrive at the bamboo place. They're looking for the marked bamboo racks. There are SO many bamboo racks, but unmarked ones. They find the marked ones and start carrying it.

COME ON TWINNIE. Natalie gets a kid to say COME ON TWINNIE. Someone please help me. :groan: YAY TWINNIE. YAY TWINNIE. GO TWINNIE. COME ON TWINNIE. oh my gosh.

Abbie is having trouble building her scale.

Chips get the clue from the eggplant vender. Monster truckers get the clue from the eggplant vender.

Josh & Brent finally find the marked stand. Trey & Lexi have caught up to them.

James & Abba are going really quickly. They're slowing down because of the heat. The bamboo is really long and heavy. They're done with the bamboo and they're tying it down.

Monster truckers arrive at the roadblock. Kelley is doing the roadblock.

COME ON TWINNIE. COME ON TWINNIE. YAY TWINNIE! They finished the roadblock in 2nd. Ryan shakes his head. They choose to do bamboo.

Chips arrive at the roadblock. Jaymes does it. Abbie's scale gets approved. Abbie's scale is too low, so she has to redo her scale. :(

Josh & Brent and Trey & Lexi both get their clue from the eggplant vender.

James & Abba are delivering the bamboo. The bamboo almost falls off.

Abbie's done the roadblock in 3rd. They choose to do straw dogs. Abbie apologies.

Brent does the roadblock. Trey does the roadblock.

Kelley's overheating. Jaymes tries to talks to the locals. "Y'all can cheer if you want. Yeahhhh." *silence*

Jaymes' scale gets approved. Rob is being supportive of Kelley. Jaymes & James are out of the roadblock in 4th. They're going to do bamboo. They've been waiting to lift heavy things.

Twinnies start carrying the bamboo. They almost take out a poor bystander. :stare

James & Abba finish the detour in first! They get a clue on a bamboo. There's an image on it. It's the pit stop. (I missed the location.) James & Abba have dominated this leg.

Natalie & Nadiya almost take out their camera man and a few more locals. They're a mess right now.

Ryan & Abbie arrive at the jute mill.

Ryan & Abbie watch a worker doing the jute, and they begin to hit it on the spikes and twist. Ryan makes a joke with jute force. Abbie gives a pity laugh.

Trey gets his scale approved. Brent doesn't. It's only because of an incorrect pin position. Kelley's scale gets approved.

Trey & Lexi are out of the roadblock in 5th. They're doing bamboo. Lexi: "Let's use our muscles." Lexi must really like Trey's muscles.

Monster truckers are done the roadblock and they do bamboo. Kelley apologies. Rob says there's no need to apologize.

Lok Shilpa Jadughar is the pit stop location. James & Abba are team #1. They've won a trip for two to Malaysia's tropical rainforest. James gets emotional talking about his father. :(

Pit stop:
1st - James & Abba

Ryan & Abbie think that they've finished the detour, but they haven't done it correctly. They start redoing it.

Chips start doing the bamboo. Natalie & Nadiya almost kill a few more people with the bamboo. Trey & Lexi arrive at the bamboo.

Poor Brent is still struggling with the scale. It's still not approved.

Nadiya's blister popped. That's nice. Chips have exhausted themselves. Trey and Lexi are trying to individually carry the bamboo. They're going to get exhausted quickly. The Monster truckers are carrying tons of bamboo. Lexi hits Rob with the bamboo.

Ryan & Abbie have finished with their jute, and they've transported it. They've finished the detour in 2nd! They get their clue with the image, and they're off to the pit stop.

Brent is still struggling with the scale. Brent is really exhausted. Josh is worried about Brent. Commercial.

And we're back.

Brent finally figures out what is wrong with his scale. His scale has been approved.

Abbie & Ryan arrive at the pit stop in 2nd. Hehehe they beat the twinsies. Ryan has wanted to take the overall win record from Dave & Rachel, and he apologies to Abbie for putting too much pressure on her.

Pit stop:
1st - James & Abba
2nd - Abbie & Ryan

Natalie & Nadiya have tied their bamboo. They keep almost killing locals. :stare Their bicycle broke so now they're just walking it.

Jaymes & James are trying to be really frugal by not eating, so they're really weak. Trey is proud of Lexi. Rob & Kelley rest.

Josh & Brent are finally done the roadblock! They pick bamboo (they should have done jute!).

Natalie and Nadiya finished the detour in 3rd. Monster truck have left the Chips behind. Chips almost mixed up their bamboo with Trey & Lexi.

Rob yells at Kelley for not being able to turn. They're out of the detour in 4th.

Jaymes & James are on a road with a bunch of trucks. Jaymes almost gets run over.

Lexi is riding the bike... Trey isn't doing a very good job at navigating. They almost take out a bunch of people.

Natalie & Nadiya arrive at the pit stop in 3rd. They wanted to be first.

First, while Abba and James didn't have to quit the Race, I don't think we've ever had a contact to the outside for an emergency call like that on TAR before. So that is a first.

And this was one of the most physically grueling legs they've ever had. Brutal. I'm glad TPTB realized that and that this was a NEL. 110 degrees and excessively humid, and with two tasks involving a lot of lifting and carrying; like I said, brutal!

I was waiting for this season to deliver a great episode! Hooray!

Since there was no form of equalisers this leg, I was expecting very limited position shuffling. However I was proved wrong, which is a good thing!

The RB was good enough to allow some teams to excel and other teams to fall behind. All tasks in TAR history that involve 'balance' have always been good, so this was no difference.

Very photogenic Detour! Both good tasks. I'm surprised only one team went for the jute option, but it did feel like it had more tasks involved it in that the bamboo. It was a good Detour balance because the jute was a good option for teams that weren't as strong. The bamboo looked tough and it looked pretty chaotic!

Nice Pit Stop location as well! Gotta give credit where credit is due. This episode also didn't feel as rushed as the last 4, maybe because there are less teams, and it was edited well.

It was a very difficult leg, combined with the physical tasks and the heat and humidity. So in some ways I am glad that it was a non-elimination, but it also would've been an interesting episode with more teams and a Double U-Turn. Either way it was a really good episode.

Other thoughts:
- We finally go to see some personality and a storyline from the Beekman Boys
- So there are flaws in Abbie & Ryan's relationship, which were very reminiscent to Davechel in TAR20 :(
- I continue to love Natalie & Nadiya, they had some great moments from cheering with the kid at the RB and almost killing the locals at the Detour
- Speaking of the Divorcees and the Twinnies, there seems to be a lot of tension between them, kind of like they're frenemies. It's like they're in a competition of their own  But I really hope it doesn't go overboard like Brenchel VS Varalphasaurus
- Am I deaf or has Trey not said anything in any confessionals? He murmurs when they're racing but other than that...
- The Chips, Rockers, Trexie and Twinnies continue to be my favourite teams <3

It would have been a great leg, if there had not been a Fast Forward the previous leg.. leading to James and Abba's victory again as they had a 2 hrs and 2 mins lead from the pit-start. It's just unfair, which goes back to the same situation back in TAR 17 where Nat and Kat took the Fast Forward on the previous leg and won the next leg as well as there was no form of bunching or whatsoever. While NO BUNCHING is good at times and get rid of all the straggling teams... but this is obviously a NEL and it serves NO purpose... it would have been more exciting if it had not been a one-sided J/A will win this leg... BUT I'm going to give J/A credits for running an almost flawless leg... if they had made a Chippendales mistake, they might have lost the leg though.

With that as the only complaint.. GREAT ROADBLOCK, GREAT DETOUR... what a brutal leg and delivering Bangladesh in her very best. Heat, people, exhaustion, children, followers... etc, what a beautiful place it is!

I would have done the Detour Abbie and Ryan did. I have no idea, but WHY do all the teams assume that more brutal detour that requires more strength will always be faster??? :duno: It's in Bangladesh... SAVE AS MUCH ENERGY AS POSSIBLE! I really really think this will pay off for Abbie and Ryan in the next leg because they saved so much energy this leg!!

And major  :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: to Ryan wanting to beat Dave and Rachel 9 legs in. That's worst than twinsies wanting to come in first. :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res: :res:

There have been multiple references to the heat in Dhaka, which is at 24 degrees north latitude. During the first leg in the Dhaka area on June 2 the high temperature was 105 degrees. I can not find comparable temperature data for June 4.

I just watched the episode, that I have to admit that it is a really good leg. This season is getting better and better (which is good), and I hope it's getting better until the Final. :hearts:

Anyway, the Roadblock was great, very unique, combination between mental and physical, which always makes a good task. The Detour was also great too. Bamboo task provided much drama, but I think the jute task wasn't bad either. It's pretty balanced in my opinion.

I don't mind with James & Abba winning their second leg consecutively, since they ran a good race at this leg, so they deserve it. They are really a great team. I also don't expect that the position can be switched up and down during the entire leg since it's really linear leg. :o

I love when Natalie asked local children to shout, "Twinnie!" It's just hilarious.

Joab,

You are quite right about the irrationality of Ryan wanting for his team to surpass David and Rachel from AR20. With only 2 wins in hand and 7 legs to go, Ryan can at best tie David/Rachel is Ryan and Abbie win EVERY remaining leg. Not gonna happen even though I do like this team!

Which is why I don't get why he's pushing Abbie so hard... while everyone else is encouraging... Ryan goes, "I SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS X984509345864930684"... :res:

Let's just say, if he can even complete a HAT TRICK and win 3 legs in a row, that's a feat... WHICH I DOUBT Abbie and Ryan are capable. Jaymes and James are not performing to their full potential yet... wait till they are, Abbie and Ryan will have no chance! Plus Trey and Lexi were in the back pack, otherwise they would have given Abbie and Ryan a good run for their money too...

I'm sorry I have to mention this, but I hope no one is going to comment on how The Amazing Race are making the racers strip so as to drive ratings. (Based on next leg's preview) (Last time I heard this theory in TAR 19, body-building task)..

It doesn't work that way. -_-

Should've put the NEL on Leg 4 and moved the FF to this leg (probably could've kept the same task as both legs were centered in or nearby Dhaka).

The best bit by far was the bamboo task, mainly because it was challenging physically and funny and dramatic watching teams struggling.

Otherwise there's a lot of phyical tasks but not really interesting mental tasks and the locations aren't that inspiring still (still just workplaces, which on their own can get repetitive). I wish the detour had two very different kinds of tasks with pros and cons given. Also for a non-elimination leg this didn't involve very much travelling, the leading team went through it with ease.

The editing was ok, but did we see Trey and Lexi finish that roadblock? I guess the long haired rockers go a bit further than I thought as they have been given a backstory now.

I'm sorry, but I'm already over the period where Amazing Race put Mactors/semi-famous people on the show to draw more viewers. They need the Amazing Race just like TAR needs them to boost popularity, more viewership or even sponsorship for the show.

And TAR has even things out by casting plain Jane teams like superfans Gary and Will and monster truckers Rob and Kelley this season... by saying some teams are there based on looks is as good as saying some teams are there because they are so common and normal (David and Mary... Linda and Steve, Anita and Authur... so many examples -_-)

And yes, if I may remind you we did see Trey and Lexi finish the Roadblock, in 5th place, with Lexi cheering in whoops of joy.

Well either it was missing from my download or I somehow missed it despite checking twice.

Anyway I know less attractive people are put on too, though I find even these pretty unlikeable this season.

This is the whole sequence of Trey & Lexi finishing the RB:

"No person deserves your tears, and who deserves them will not make you cry." - Gabriel García Márquez

This is my favorite episode so far this season. Editing was perfect :).

Sone people are wondering why they put the NEL on the second Bangledesh leg. My guess is that they have a great speedbump in Turkey :hearts:.

I like Lexi, she did well peddling that bicycle with all that stuff on, Trey I find more boring though.

This is a point of clarification on the bamboo poles. What was needed was 10 medium-length, 10 long length and 20 short-length poles. 40 total poles is correct but the count of each size did matter.

Josh & Brent are saved on leg 5, but will encounter a Speed Bump the next leg. How do you feel about Josh & Brent being saved by a non-E?

In a 12 leg race with 11 teams and no TBCs, 2 teams MUST by mathematics be saved by NELs.  Josh/Brent are as good as any of the other teams, but it could have happened to any of the remaining 7 teams. So chalk it up to a bit of luck for Josh/Brent. They are neither deserving nor undeserving in my view.

I think, along the lines that apskip does, but I would add this: if there was a leg that was designed to end up as an NEL, this last leg was it.

Yes, I was previously thinking about how I've complained about teams like AJ and Ty, Katie and Rachel who were all eliminated because they were just so behind in the previous leg to even have any time to catch up with the rest of the teams on the next leg because there's no bunching point. I'm glad that this is the first time in many seasons we have 2 legs in the same country, BUT the second leg is instead a NEL and not the first leg. The trend of 2 legs in the first country with the first being a NEL is getting too boring already.

It is beyond disappointing that we are about to reach the midpoint of this season and to be honest I barely know most of the teams.

Where are the diverse locations? So far this season every single leg has probably had a market in it  :res: .

They seriously need to go back to their old casting style. The last season that casted new teams that were normal and likable was TAR 17. As we all know, TAR 18 was just an all-star season. From TAR 19 and on, they are casting teams with funky occupation names like "Army Wife & Pilot," "Former Showgirls," "Monster Truck Drivers," "Lumberjacks," basically most of TAR 20 and 21. I mean, it's not bad to cast teams with such titles that stand out, but when they cast all the funky titles in one season, it's just not gonna make a good mix.

Sigh… where's the TAR I loved.

Maybe linked to how much you know teams is if you find teams likeable and so worth rooting for.  I'm not sure there's a team for me to root for still.  I don't really mind if they give them descriptive titles that much, but the fact that people might need to remember them by that rather than anything more personal might be a problem.  Whether that is purely a casting problem or partly an editing problem I don't know.

I'm sure there will be more variety of locations eventually, but hopefully the legs will get longer and the tasks more difficult too.  The thing that made this show amazing was definitely the variety and that meant not just keeping in urban areas.

They nearly all seem to get on the same aeroplane nowadays as well, I suppose that saves money but it does lessen the drama.

I think just by taking it's time more and letting the drama unfold over a longer period you would see more relationships between the teams and the drama would be less through just hectic editing and more by race drama.  The Australian version did it better this year I thought.
