hmmmmm....
HOW do teams receive news from home?

I dont think this has ever happened...ever!

Except one early season when they used a cell phone to call home...Season 5?
And season 11 called home after E and D won the million dollars.

Press Release!

“Chill Out, Freak” – Teams crumble amidst the intense heat of Bangladesh and emotions propel one Team through the leg after they receive disappointing news from home, on THE AMAZING RACE, Sunday, Oct. 28 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.  Emmy Award nominee Phil Keoghan is the host.

This, however, happened on other TAR franchise, CHINA RUSH Season 2, where one team decided to pull out of the game after he received news that his grandmother passed away...

For what we see in the caps here (unless there's another FF involving the jute - you never know  :) -), and the caps in the Pre-race videos thread, is pretty clear that the jute task and the bamboo task are both sides of the Detour.  We can see Ryan & Abbie doing the jute; and Rob & Kelley, Lexi & Trey, Natalie & Nadiya, Jaymes & James, and the Beekmans doing the bamboo.

My reaction to leg 5 being an EL:  :o  :iok

In the Josh & Brent promo scene, what was that metal structure and the blue strings? Does anyone know what it's called?

This may seem like a wild guess, but it seems like some sort of palace inferring from the guardsmen and Bangladesh flag-colored gate.

In Season 10, Finland leg, teams checked their AOL accounts for a video message with their loved ones telling them where to get their next clue. I remember it was the Kapelli (sp) cafe.

I'm wondering if the news is not something planned by TPTB, but an emergency contact to one of the teams.
I don't think we've ever had this happen on TAR, although there have been a couple of instances on Survivor, and on Big Brother. (I'm remembering the post 9/11 news to Monica on BB 2 that her cousin was among the missing at Ground Zero/WTC in Manhattan.)  I can't think of any other reason to mention just one team in the press release.

I saw the promo too. Abba was the one who recieved the news from home on a laptop... but that's just what it looks like in the editing. Perhaps another AOL video session like in the family version?

Just a little humor.........

Chittagong is exactly where the largest rat invasion was...

Invasion is a very interesting choice of words.....Where did they invade from???  India?? Mynmmar???

It is called The Mautam/Mautaam. Rather than an invasion, it is the rapid cyclic reproduction of rats when the bamboo blooms and fruits every 50 years. Huge exponential growth of individual rats. In some research studies, some females have been seen to have up to 8 litters of new babies in a matter of months (when normal is 2). As long as the bamboo fruit is available for them to eat, they are not a problem..but when that runs out......all the rats start hitting rice crops and grain storage areas to survive. Many migrate to garbage dumps, etc in populated areas such as Chittagong. I guess that is what you mean by invasion, invasion of the cites from the countryside.

It is a very interesting phenomenom. It does not hit every area the same year...but it about a 5 year wave that spreads across Assam, Mynmmar and eastern Bangladesh. So much grain is lost to the rats, that famine usually occur right after the Mautam. Lots of records going back to the early 1800s, with a lot of good science from the last two occurances.

It looks like the Race continues to the countryside of Bangladesh.  This task takes place at banks of the Meghna River at the Meghna Bridge, Gazaria, Munshiganj, Bangladesh.

That's a cement factory across the river.  The task at hand may have something to do with weighing sand/gravel/cement mixes.

Panoramio

Opps!

Looks like Next Post has a much better fit!  Nice work ZouLy!

Ok, with the help of cool advanced technology today, I think I found one of the location of LEG-5

It's at Demra, Dhaka, Bangladesh

The bridge, The Jute Mill Factory, and the Bamboo Market are all MATCHED!

First one is the aerial view of the bridge :

and then, a close-up view on the bamboo market :

as you guys all can see, there's a shadow on that picture, it suppose to be the shadow of a standing bamboo stalks as we seen on this preview :

an additional picture for comparison is that the electricity tower / power lines and the structure of the bridge...

Now below is the "EXACT" location where James and Abba did the task, look at the mosque and the bridge behind them... :
