Recently engaged, the pair say they never recovered from fear they were going to be abducted while racing in India.
"It was a bit like being in the middle of Armageddon," Donna says.
"It looked fluffy on telly, but you don't see the bodies starving on the roads and the machineguns everywhere.
"You travel in a country like that with a camera crew and people think you're rich and you are a target ... we thought we were going to be abducted and murdered one night."
Donna says she has suffered night terrors since and she questions security measures for Seven's reality series.
"Security couldn't have known where we were. We were off on a wild goose chase about two hours away," she says.
A Seven spokesman says the race travels with security personnel and employs numerous local staff at each location, including local security.
"We are very confident in the seamless security procedures we have in place throughout the production, but unfortunately contestants may not always notice as they are so focused on the race."
