Preview up! Caps within the hour.

In the running task, there's no confetti when Art wipes out. There's plenty of confetti for when Rachel B / Brendon / Vanessa make their attempt, which would suggest BPA finished first.

Moreover, the fact that Brenchel are at the task with Davchel and Ralph/Van suggests that the bus thing is either a nonissue (due to bunching or the difficulty of the task) or not to the gameshow task.

If you compare 16 to 25. It looks like Art and JJ get to the roadblock first. In cap 16 there rubber chickens are all gone.

Also in 16 it looks like Brendan's chickens are mostly gone, while Rachel and Vanessa's are still there.

From cap 37 - 38, I think they are in a revolving sushi shop which is quite common in Japan and they have to take some certain sushis to fill the plate, since I can see the label on the plate. I don't know, though

cap 36 is Vanessa and Ralph going to Leg 11 Pit Stop @ Osaka Castle

Caps 67 and 68 are from Vanessa & Ralph leaving the limousine bus in some point of the Osaka leg.

  Here's a picture of an empty studio at NHK in Shubuya area of Tokyo.  Lights look similar to "rubber chicken" game show studio lights. (but then again, all TV studios may look the same).   ;)

Maybe they fly into Tokyo, do the game show first, then take Shinkansen to Kyoto/Osaka area.  Or maybe not.   :duno:

Tarjunkie999,

Your hypothesis is reasonable and that may be what teams did in leg 11, but it's 250 miles from Tokyo to Osaka so I have big questions that the TV game show was filmed in Tokyo.

You inspired me to do additional research. Osaka is a huge metropolitan area (some include Kyoto and Kobe in it; I do) with a 17 million population, not as large as Tokyo but larger than the New York metro area.  It turns out that there are 5 headquarters and/ or studios of TV networks (not stations but networks covering much of Japan) in the city of Osaka:

Television Osaka - 1-2-18, Otemae, Chūō-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture
MBS Studio in USJ - Universal Studios Japan, 1-33, Sakurajima Nichome, Konohana-ku, Osaka-shi
Asai Broadcasting Corp. - 1-30, Fukushima Itchome, Fukushima-ku, Osaka-shi, (Hotarumachi)
Kansai Telecasting Corp. -1-7, Ogimachi Nichome, Kita-ku, Osaka
Yomiuri Telecasting Corp. - 2-33, Shiromi Nichome, Chūō-ku, Osaka-shi

I believe that the game show was filmed in one of the above.

Maybe, but I have a possible alternate hypothesis. Remember Amazing Race Asia 3 episode ROADBLOCK (in the ice bar) "Who is cold and calculating?" there is some probability that this sushi exercise could be similar, with the letters teams earn allowing them to name the next city.

It's a made up game show for the race. Just like the Wasabi roulette. This challenge looks more fun than the wasabi though. I wish if they want to make a Japanese game show task. It's as fun as Takeshi's castle.

 looked at a ton of pictures of kaiten sushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurants in Japan, and one thing stands out, namely NOT a lot of places with hygenic plate covers

Recently Kura Corporation successfully deployed such a system in their (Kura Sushi) Restaurants.

Safe to say that Brenchel are at a Kura Sushi shop.  Your guess if it's in Kyoto, Osaka, or whereever.

Interesting links:  Kaiten Sushi primerKura Corporation hygenic plate cover info

Learned one thing:  Color of plate determines if item contains wasabi   :lol3:

We have belt sushi here in LA too.

The color of the plate determines the price of the sushi here.

The plates are covered too but it is not the cool clam shell lid style.  It's a clear cover that comes with the plate and you just take it off at your table.

One thing I noticed is the difference in Vanessa's outfits between these caps.

and this cap which is over in the Hawaii string.

I think what happens is told in this photo

She must struggle with the task, and In that lower right photo gets the courage by Ralph to continue. She take off the sweatshirt and that's why we see her other shirt. Here in ability to complete this task quickly, will the the cause of there elimination.

I took a new look at the mat shot and I need to revise the time estimate I made last December.

This shot was taken between 11:56 am and 12:13 pm (assumes December 18th).

We could also go by the exif data if that is still available and if it can be synchronized with the clock shot at the rail station.

There is a clip on cbs.com of Art doing the Osaka roadblock. He has to grab three chickens and then make it to the end of the conveyor. You don't have to do all of that in one try though. There are obviously no other teams with them and they are in first at the time.

I can't see the clip because I am Canadian, is there a possibility they are in last and the other three teams have already gone?

The chickens in the other lanes are all still hanging so the other three teams have yet to arrive at the task

The host is American actor Arnold Chun. There are probably many Japanese actors who could manage the role, but for some reason they've flown him over twice (nice gig if you can get it) so he could sport an accent and a quizmaster's outfit.
On a different topic, can anyone help with the signs? With any luck we can pinpoint them.

The sign on the right says Oyodo Kyu-un. It's a delivery company.

The sign on the left says Wakou Biru. Wakou is a Japanese name & biru means building.

The Tanaka sisters were my favorite pre-race team, but I never had any illusions about them getting very far. Let's examine the history of the Amazing Race to see which teams eliminated first MIGHT have been true F3 material  except for their race being cut short. So, is it:

AR1 - Matt/Ana
AR2 - Deidre/Hilary
AR3 - Gina/Sylvia
AR4 - Debra/Steve
AR5 - Dennis/Ericka
AR6 - Avi/Joe
AR7 - Ryan/Chuck
AR8 - Black Family
AR9 - Scott/John
AR10 - Billel/Saeed
AR11 - John Vito/Jill
AR12 - Ari/Staella
AR13 - Arthur/Anita
AR14 - Preston/Jennifer
AR15 - Eric/Lisa
AR16 - Dana/Adrian
AR17 - Ron/Tony
AR18 - Amanda/Kris
AR19 - Ron/Bill
AR20 - Misa/Maiya

My conclusion from looking at these first out teams is that none of the above was potential F3 material who just had bad luck. The one first-out team who I think was best was Amanda/Kris, who had bad luck at the starting line of AR18 and paid the price with a close elimination following a penalty Automatic U-turn.

The reason why they'd visited to Hiroshima first before going to Osaka is because they'd visited the Peace Memorial there in order to pay respect to the victims of atom bomb blast on the final days of World War II which is similar to the All-Star edition when the 6 remaining teams paid respect to the victims of the Holocaust at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.  Reaction?

I was thinking of those tasks, along with the India tea identifying task and a few others. TAR seems to want have teams eat or drink to their limits at times. I thought that might happen here, but it was more like having them stop for a mid race snack so they they would have the energy for the rest of the leg. Art tried though. I think he cleared most of the bingo card as he was leaving the table.

For what it's worth, this hostel is claiming on their Twitter feed to have been shown in the Osaka leg.

They are near the ferry terminal, so it's possible teams ran past their building.

One of the things making the Detour choices unequal was the distance they had to travel to Kura sushi (viewpoint here; although the restaurant hadn't been built when the streetview car went by, you can see the road sign is still the same). The sumo photo task was much closer to Umeda.

I clicked Modify but I didn't see any button for attachments. Anyway, here's the comparison photo.

I bet that World Race Productions knows how to measure not distances but times to get to each DETOUR and they equalize them with the presumed length of the task so that one DETOUR is not supposed to be easier than the other. Despite their best efforts, that is not always been the case; the best example is Art/JJ doing the DETOUR in the Kochi area sifting garlic, packing boxes and delivering them.

There was nothing wrong with the detour, it was Art & JJ's karma...

Just watched the finale. Pretty meh finale. Only excitement was Dave and Rachel's stumbling upon finishing line by mistake.. and still win.

Art and JJ, just simply bad karma. Trash talking, creating conflicts and completely being huge asses throughout the race. If they had won, it would have been one of the WORST SEASONS EVER.

    Thank goodness they didn't. :ghug:
