THEY live together, work together as teachers at the same school and have recently taken up training together at the gym.

Lucy, 36 and Emilia, 30, have come into the Race after a particularly tough year.

They’ve been nursing their mother through her battle with cancer but with the encouragement of their mum they entered the Race.

“She knows this has been our dream forever. It’s made us more determined. Basically, we’re still here for fun, but I also think that we’re here to do it really properly,” Emilia said.

They live together at home with their mum, work together as teachers at the same school, and have recently taken up training together at the gym.

“It’s more for the perve factor than anything else. We go together as much as we can,” says older sister Lucy, 36.

It was she who gave younger sister Emilia, 30, the nickname “Wog Barbie” when they were growing up. “You know, big hair. Loves dressing up. And we’re wogs, obviously,” Lucy laughs.

Emilia adds, “I guess we do have quite a few of those classic Italian traits. We’re passionate, we talk with our hands, we talk a lot, we cry a lot, we laugh a lot!”

“And loudly!” Lucy continues. “All moments with Emilia are memorable. She is hilarious!”

Lucy and Emilia have come into the race after a particularly tough year.

They’ve been nursing their beloved mother through her battle with cancer – the same disease which claimed their father’s life when they were just children. Their mum encouraged them to go on the race.

“She knows this has been our dream forever. I think it’s made us more determined. Basically we’re still here for fun, but I also think that we’re here to do it really properly.”

Emilia says, “If our 67-year-old Mum can survive chemo then we can do just about anything. She’s our motivation. After what’s happened I’m in it to win it.”

Mum inspiration for Amazing Race sisters

IT WAS only right that sisters Lucy and Emilia Pelosi entered Channel 7's reality series The Amazing Race Australia together.

The bubbly pair, who both work as teachers and live together at Kogarah Bay, are used to each other's company and knew they wouldn't mind chasing the $250,000 prize around the world.

Lucy 36, and Emilia, 31, think Australia will see them as the "underdogs" when the second season airs next week.

"We didn't take things too seriously and just had fun with it," Emilia said of their time on the show filmed late last year.

"We struggled with some of the physical challenges so most teams didn't see us as a threat. But we really were trying hard."

The show sees 11 teams of two compete in challenges around the world until one duo takes the $250,000 grand prize.

Teams this season travelled more than 65,000 kilometres across four continents, performing a range of challenges testing their stamina and personal relationships.

The sisters were chosen for the first season but pulled out the day before they were due to leave when their mum was diagnosed with cancer.

Emilia said their mum, who went through chemotherapy, was their motivation to enter the second season.

"She knows this has been our dream forever. I think it's made us more determined," Emilia said.

The pair both speak Italian, thanks to their heritage, and French, which they said helped them along the way.

While Emilia hadn't previously been to any of the countries they visited during filming, the both thought they would head back to some of the places.

"The good thing about the race was that we could experience different places that we wouldn't normally choose," Lucy said.

The Amazing Race Australia airs on Channel 7 at 9pm Wednesday, May 30.

I recall reading somewhere that Anne-Marie & Tracy were the first teams selected to be on the first season.

These amazing girls have raised over $8000 for cancer research over the course of their two events! Well done!!!

It was so amazing meeting them tonight!!! I wrote a long essay

over on the 'Events' thread about it, but I just wanted to post here saying that I was just stunned when Lucy asked me (after I took a photo with her) "Do you have any idea who that 'racer' is on that spoiler site?" Too funny! What a coincidence!

They have been reading and loving everything over here on RFF, and Lucy gave a big hello to everyone here on RFF!

I can't help but to agree that it's by God's grace they got to survive through all the way to Leg 10 and be in the Final 5??

Leg 1: Saved by Ross and Tarryn's salvation pass
Leg 2: Saved by Adam and Dane's 30 minutes penalty, barely reached the pit-stop with only 3 minutes left for A/D penalty
Leg 3: Saved by the hairdressers inability to solve the Roadblock
Leg 4: Saved by Kym and Donna completely giving up and not completing the leg
Leg 5 and 6: Completed the leg based on their ability, but still, if Leg 6 was not design in a way to ultimately eliminate the last place team in the previous leg anyway, they couldn't have made the final 7 so easily.
Leg 7a: Managed and owned the Paris-Cuba TBC leg all on their own!
Leg 7b: Drove well, despite falling really behind at the Detour and finishing in 6th. Leg 5 - 7b showed that they could be decent racers as well
Leg 8: Reached the pit-stop location even AFTER James and Sarah, but because James and Sarah couldn't pay their cab, they got to check-in first. HECK, they even took James and Sarah cab driver to the pit-stop, if you all realize! He was so worried and even asked them "Do you have money?" Anyway, James and Sarah only had themselves to blame, they overslept, took cab back to and fro.. that's what caused them so much money.

Off-stopic to the sisters, but because Joseph and Grace took James and Sarah cabbie in Paris and agreed to pay the extra amount to whatever James and Sarah ought to have paid, they have no more money for this leg as well!

I don't think any team on the history of any version of TAR has been saved... ever... so many times... five is a record!

That's what I'm thinking. They left the gondola first, so I doubt they arrived last. We never see the sisters in the same shot as James & Sarah, just Sarah saying, "Oh good, they're here," which was probably directed toward the police, and then a different shot of Lucy & Emilia running.

For me, it seems like Sarah and James arrived first and then "oh good they are here" means the sisters arrived. The sisters looked relatively relieved and knew they wouldn't be eliminated it seems, which makes me think they might have seen Sarah and James at the carpark and know that they are before them.

Otherwise, when Grant told them they're 5th.. they should be showing their usual ultimate shock faces.

I liked them for the first half of this show but eventually the editing got a bit repetitive with them getting their own music, the bias towards them was very evident (as with Mark and Bopper). Too much weeping (particularly Lucy) and the joke wore thin eventually. I liked them on the race but I want real competitors for any Allstars (such as the twins, siblings or workmates).

I thought I would be the only one, but I agree with you about the real competitors thing.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Lucy & Emilia though but more for their personality, not for their racing ability..

I liked them for the first half of this show but eventually the editing got a bit repetitive with them getting their own music, the bias towards them was very evident (as with Mark and Bopper).
