Previously on The Amazing Race...

6 teams raced from from Azerbaijan to Tanzania. There was a heated argument between Vanessa & Ralph and Brenchel. Art & JJ confronted Nary & Jamie about their profession.

Teams jumped and hit targets. Davechel argued, but still managed to get first. Nary & Jamie had tons of trouble and came in last, but it was a NEL. 6 teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

New intros again! Nary & Jamie's intro... :lol3:

More pretty scenery. :colors

Davechel depart first at 6:03 AM. Go on a safari to the Ngorongoro Crater. Then travel to Safari Junction. After they find Hilary Clington (), they will get their next clue. Davechel know that there's a double U-Turn. They will consider U-Turning Brenchel.

Mark & Bopper depart at 6:05 AM. Bopper injured his knee last leg.

Art & JJ depart at 6:23 AM. They've been waiting for the U-Turn... In Leg 5, Art & JJ and Davechel decided to U-Turn Brenchel.

Brenchel depart at 6:48 AM. Rachel for the title.

Vanessa & Ralph depart at 7:18 AM.

More beautiful scenery. Teams are appreciating the scenery. I love moments like this. :hrt:

Art says JJ's a lion. And then Art starts poking JJ.

More elephants! This is why I love the race.

Vanessa's very happy. :)

And now Davechel arrive in Karatu, Tanzania. Davechel and Mark & Bopper are looking for Hilary Clington. Davechel find the Hilary Clington Shop first. Detour: Water Supply or Air Supply?

Water Supply: Teams will help locals get water at a specific address. Teams will pick up carts of water and then wait in line at the community well. Once they fill all their carts, they will have to deliver it back to the homeowner.

Air Supply: Fix a punctured tire. When the local kids give them a thumbs up, they will get their next clue.

Davechel pick bikes. Mark & Bopper pick bikes.

Art & JJ pick water.

Rachel tells Mark & Bopper to not U-Turn each other. They're watching the demonstration on how to fix the bicycle tire.

Rachel: Guys always think they know what they're doing without watching.

Yup. Pretty much.

Art & JJ find their address and get their containers. They wait in the line. It's a long line.

Brendon thinks Hilary Clinton is actually here... inside the shop? Brenchel find it and they pick air supply. Vanessa & Ralph look for Hilary ... but nobody can help them? :duno:

Bopper has mechanic hands. Rachel & Dave start arguing again.

Art & JJ are frustrated at the long line-up.

Wow! :ascared Mark & Bopper finish the detour in first. Who saw that coming? Proceed to Jack Stelzer Pub. That's the location of the Double U-Turn. Bopper can't jog because of his knee.

Dave & Rachel finish the detour in 2nd. Caution Double U-Turn ahead.

Brenchel arrive at air supply as Davechel leaves.

Nary & Jamie finally depart at 9:21 AM. :ascared They're crazy behind! They're just going to fight.

Vanessa & Ralph are lost. They find air supply before Hilary Clington first.

One thing I miss about the old seasons is how a team would actually waste time looking for Hillary Clinton, leading to their Philimination

And we're back. Vanessa & Ralph finally find out where Hilary Clington is. They're going to do air supply. Nary & Jamie get out of their safari.

Art & JJ finally reach the front of the line and they get all the containers filled.

Rachel (of Dave & Rachel) can't say baboon.

Speedbump. Davechel and Mark & Bopper are really close. Find Margaret's Farm. And then their taxi drivers start driving there.

Art & JJ finish the detour in 3rd. Art & JJ think that they're in first... Art & JJ U-Turn Brenchel. :res: Yuck. :res: :res: :res: Art & JJ are going to be in for a surprise! They hope Davechel will show up later and U-Turn Nary & Jamie. Hah.

Taxi race between Davechel and Mark & Bopper.

Brenchel finish the detour in 4th. Vanessa & Ralph arrive at air supply. They're sure Brenchel will U-Turn them. Vanessa: "Let's make a mistake and take longer."

Art & JJ now are going to find Margaret's Farm. They think they're in 3rd now. They don't think Dave wouldn't keep his word.

Brenchel reach the Double U-Turn and now they U-Turn Vanessa & Ralph.

Nary & Jamie get the detour clue and choose air supply.

Also, I guess we know why Art & J.J. were so mad at Rachel & Dave in the preview. Not that it makes the reason any less stupid.

Nary & Jamie start fixing the tires.

Brenchel get their containers and they wait at the community well. Rachel: Can we drink this water?

Bopper & Mark would enjoy 1 first place before the final 3. Roadblock!

Harvest Honey: Put on a protective bee suit and harvest honey. They have to collect 500 grams of honey to get their next clue.

Mark is doing the roadblock. Dave does the roadblock.

Bopper's knee isn't doing so well.

Uhh... They're African bees. And they will sting. :stare This is really scary.

The amount of bees... I could not do this roadblock.

Art & JJ would be disappointed if Dave & Rachel didn't U-Turn Brenchel.

Brenchel fill all their containers, but two of the containers fall. Rachel tries to pick it up and then put it on the cart, but then the entire thing falls. Water starts coming out... And then Brenchel argue. Vanessa & Ralph appreciate water after waiting in the line.

Mark finishes the roadblock in first place as well. :ascared Make their way on foot to the pit stop, Lake Manyara. The last team may be eliminated. Bopper's knee might make them lose first.

Dave finishes the roadblock. Art & JJ arrive. And now Art & JJ try to start drama with Davechel. Davechel walk away from them. Heh.

Art & JJ are team #3. And then they start ranting to Phil about how Davechel broke their agreement. :res:

Vanessa: We have the best luck with cabs.

And then their cab gets a flat tire.

Nary & Jamie get their clue and they're going to get their cab.

Art & JJ are so stupid with their reaction to the U-Turn. :res: Rachel & Dave made a smart strategic move, knowing that there was a team several hours behind, whereas Art & JJ were too stupid to realise that their U-Turn would most likely go to waste... :res: Hopefully Brenchel can seal 4th place today!! :<3

And we're back. Vanessa & Ralph's cab driver changed the tire very quickly. Brenchel now are on their way to the roadblock.

Nary & Jamie caught up to Vanessa & Ralph. They're literally behind them. Nary & Jamie have to complete their speedbump. They have to properly set up an art stand based on this guide.

Vanessa & Ralph are on their way to the roadblock.

Rachel is doing the roadblock.

Rachel: I have to keep them (the bees) nice and confused. :lol3: I was using the smoke like perfume. :lol3: Oh my goodness Rachel is hilarious.

Brendon & Rachel are team #4. Rachel: DOUBLE U-TURN THAT! :jam:

Ralph does the roadblock.

Nary & Jamie's art stand gets approved. They now proceed to the roadblock.

For the first time in the history of the U-Turn Era of TAR, the U-Turn's 100% kill rate is no longer 100%!

Ralph finishes the roadblock and they are team #5. Vanessa & Ralph can't believe they're still on The Amazing Race. I can't either.

Nary did the roadblock. And they're the last team to arrive. And now they've been eliminated from the race. :( I really like their t-shirts. "I'm with my B.F.F." :hrt:

Next week on The Amazing Race...

Art & JJ are still mad at Davechel for the U-Turn non-drama. :res:

Mark has a Bollywood meltdown in India. :'( I'm guessing it's a dancing roadblock? Those are brutal. :(

Meh. Dave needs to stand up and pretty much tell them to shut up, which explaining that this isn't Survivor, and there can only be one winner.  That, and the meaninglessness of  a U-Turn when there may be another set of U-Turns left.

Next week looks like the final NEL; figured that would come on 4/29, but whatever.

Man the finishing order sure switched up a lot this week. Has there ever been a time when the order was identical to the previous leg?

Also, had Art & J.J. chosen the other detour, they probably could have won this leg and spared us the whining.

This shows poor leg planning. Nary & Jamie were so behind, even the u-turn didn't allow them to catch up.

Also, I think the Speed Bump was too difficult.

I agree, especially compared to other Speed Bumps. This one would've taken much more time than running across a field of fireworks (TAR12), sitting in a saunabus or drinking the absinthe (TAR15) and almost all other Speed Bumps, except Kynt & Vyxsin's and Ken & Tina's.

I don't like how some Speed Bumps tend to be so easy and others waste a lot of time. :(

- unfair that Nary and Jamie didn't get a chance to catch up
- SO GLAD THE MOPPER WON A LEG!!!!!!  :hearts:

- so sad Nary and Jamie couldn't catch up  :'(  :'(  :'(

They were in Mto Wa Mbu too, and the wikipedia description of TAR5 task is:

Quote
The Detour for this leg was Buzzing or Busy. In Buzzing, teams had to travel by bicycle to a local honey farm, put on a beekeeper suits and harvest 2 kilograms (4.4 lb) of honey from traditional African hives in order to receive their next clue.

I think that's it.

I agree, Nary & Jamie had plenty of opportunities to make up time, but they started 2 hours or so behind the 5th place team. Had they left sooner they probably could have come in 4th this leg. I disagree with your statement about a slide puzzle being hard. I can finish them in about a minute.

As a side note, I know that this leg wasn't an exact replication of the previous, I was just curious if it had ever happened before.

While we have had locations near each other serve as pitstops on different Races; I believe Lake Manyara becomes the first location to be officially a pit stop in two different Races (Leg 7 of TAR 5).
And since teams were directed to Mto wa Mbu, (the location of the detour clue which included the same beekeeping task as an option) where they were directed to a specific farm (Margaret's farm) for the beekeeping roadblock. I strongly suspect that this was the specific undisclosed location of the TAR 5 beekeeping detour task; we were never told where that task was specifically. (Peach, if you will recall, that was my theory last week, and although none of the previews gave us enough to work with, I think the episode did.)
There have been a few instances in the past where a location for one type of task on a prior race was used for a different type of task on a later race; and we've had a task recycled in the past when no team did a detour task and it reappeared as a roadblock; or a repeat of a roadblock (ostrich eggs TAR 1, leg 1 and TAR 5, leg 7); and we were never told ezactly where the Lake Manyara "Lookout" was on TAR 5.

Even though they were my favorites this season, they were never going to win. Nary and Jamie were part of some weak competition this season.

It will be interesting to see whom from this race, and where they would finish in another All-Star race.

Yes, but we know that:
1. Kibaone (or Kibaoni) was the place of the ostrich egg omelet eating.
2. It was ON FOOT from there to the zipline overlooking Lake Manyara.
3. The elevation there is higher than at Mto Wa Mbu, which was where AR5 started from getting on the public buses.

My original conclusion is that there is NO relationship between the bee place in AR5 ep. 7 and the one in AR20 ep. 8. However, I have kept at this and found the following additional information:

4. The Kibaoni Primary School is located approximately 75 kilometers west of Arusha, about 19 kilometers east of the town of Karatu. Based on knowing that Arusha is 57 miles east of Mto Wa Mbu and Karatu is 13 miles west of Mto Wa Mbu, that would put simultaneously 47 miles west of Mto Wa Mbu and 12 miles east of Karatu. That means Kibaoni  could be just west of Mto Wa Mbu or up to 10 miles east of Mto Wa.
Mbu.

That means no clear determination of where Kibaoni is (and believe me, I have tried hard to locate it on a number of Tanzania maps), but it's obviously close to Mto Wa Mbu. It is stated in AR5 to be a village nearby to Mto Wa Mbu. It would logically be a little south of Mto Wa Mbu to have a zipline and a Lake Manyara Overlook, but its main marker is the Kavishe Hotel.

So my conclusion is that there is NO relationship between the bee place in AR5 ep. 7 and the one in AR20 ep. 8.

We'll have to disagree then, because we weren't given any information to place the TAR 5 beekeeping detour task in relation to the other task, or to the pit stop location. It was a more common practice in those early seasons to place detour tasks further apart at times than is currently the apparent practice, and for all we know teams decided the beekeeping task was a sufficient distance further away to make the other option more attractive. There is an absence of clarity with that particular location. For that matter, we don't know as of yet how far on foot teams has to go from the roadblock task this episode. We never had a continuous shot of the teams from the roadblock location to the pit stop map, so it isn't possible to make a definite conclusion.

the schnauzers,

Please look above this and also your latest post to see the additions I made to my earlier post. I have  some additional information on the site of the AR5 ostrich omelet easting task, Kavishe Hotel:

"The Amazing Race crew jetted off to Africa last night, and ended up at Lake Manyara in Tanzania.

Before they arrived at their pit stop, the racers were challenged to eat an entire ostrich egg at the Kavishe Hotel.  Now the Kavishe Hotel didn't look like the sort of place you wanted to spend your dream African safari, but it did look like an authentic African hotel.  While the Kavishe Hotels looked like the perfect place for an ostrich egg eating contest, the lush grounds of the Lake Manyara pit stop were probably more appealing to the weary race participants.

Lake Manyara sits in the midst of a beautiful national park that is peppered with luxury lodges and camps.  Looks like the perfect spot to set up base camp for a safari."

This sheds no additional light on the question "where were the bees?" but I find it interesting.

Otherwise it was a procession and the order was kept though.  These African legs seem to cover a very small area, and when they have to travel a distance they are kept close together either on chartered flights or on a leisurely journey in a jeep.  No great navigation needed.

But they did finish it, and it probably suited taller people doing that task.  It annoys me more like in TAR17 where you had that couple who where in the docks (in Hong Kong?) trying to find a boat with a particular number and the guy in that team just gave up.  So they took a big penalty and yet also received a non-elimination.  That annoys me far more.  When people persevere like Nary/Jamie or say Kevin and Michael I don't mind if they get spared at all.  I like it then if they are given a chance to get back into it.  Kevin and Michael only had to sit on a block of ice for 10 minutes at their roadblock and I think that leg gave them lots of opportunity to catch up as well.

The pit stop for TAR5, Leg 7 was at the Lake Manyaro Lookout Lodge. It is apprximate 5-6 miles west of Mto wa Btu, up on the escarpment above the rift valley. Mto wa Btu and Lake Manyaro sit down in the rift valley. If you have GE and follow the highway west of Mto wa Btu, there is an airstrip and the Serena Hotel. Just to the south the highway makes a very narrow V shape. This is the meeting of the gorge, where they did the zip line, and the rift valley. About a half mile farther west is an un-named village. I suspect that this is the infamous Kibaoni village and Kaviche Hotel, but I have no evidence of that. In the next episode, TAR5, Leg 8........the intro has about 30 seconds of the old E/S/M time with all the teams eating around a large table out on the pool deck with Lake Manyaro in the background. The images from that episode do match the promo photos on the Lake Manyaro Lookout Lodge website, btw.

Btw, I think it was last summer, Neobie posted a GE .kmz file with all the pit stops pinpointed  from TAR1-18. It is very simple to add that file to you GE, to use when you wish. Since he has actually visited most all the pit stop in his quest, they are all very accurate.
