My theory - Too many people recognize the traditional boxes and they do not want the spoiling to be too easy.

I think these show new creativity, I doubt it is a budget issue. Whatever the reason, I like it!

Probably a combination of budget, logistics, and being somewhat creative.  Also to screw the teams up.  :lol:

I've always liked the idea of using more country and cultural-specific ways of having teams receive clues, (such as the one where the had to find someone or something only using a photo that goes back to season one,) and overall, while it makes the Race harder to spoiler, it also makes the Racer harder for Racers, and that's a good thing.
