Sorry, correct me if I'm wrong; but haven't this happened near Sicily? I mean the number of victims is similar to the disaster in the Mediterranean Sea near to Lampedusa this early morning.

Regarding Chile's volcano eruption:  Didn't one of the TAR go through the area? TAR 16 or TAR Allstars/
