I don't think the U-turn at the end of the leg is really a problem when it's a W-turn. Since two people have to do each task, it's not instant elimination. I still think the yield is better, though.

First attempt. What a terrifying speedbump!

Did everyone hear Cindy say something along the lines of 'even if we get u-turned it won't count if we use the Express pass'?? Or am I dreaming

Ernie & Cindy absolutely wasted their express pass!  I have no idea why!  Why do teams waste their express pass so easily - express pass is the most valuable thing in your arsenal!!!!

Here's why:
1. They did not intend for it to be wasted. They badly wanted to win episode 7 and using it was the only way that could happen.
2. they were quite aware that the Express Pass only had value through leg 8 and after that was worthless.
3. So they took a calculated risk that use of the Express Pass in leg 7 would lead to a victory. They did not fail by much.

If they had used it before going part ways out on the water and coming back they probably would have been first. They only needed about 30 seconds at the most.

What I don't understand is why not save it until episode 8 unless you absolutely HAVE to use it???  Is coming in first in EP7 really worth the risk of being caught in last place in EP8 and not having the EP in your back pocket?   From the looks of things in the EP8 previews, they may get away with it -- but I personally wouldn't have risked it...

Just my 2 cents...

I think I remember her saying something like that, which I took to mean that if they were U-Turned, they would use the Express Pass to skip doing the other side of the detour.  And looking at that other side of the detour, I can see how they would REALLY not want to do that task.  So, since they were probably going to use it if Andy and Tommy (or anyone else) U-Turned them, it made sense to use it before they HAD to use it, giving them a chance at first place.  Of course, when they saw Andy and Tommy barreling down the hill, it would have made more sense to use it right then, before they even got in the canoe.
