TPTB do seem to be recycling variations of some challenging tasks this season. The cave in episode 2, the counting the Buddhas (similar to a task in the Netherlands?) for episode three, and I'm wondering if they're headed back towards that famous leg 11 (Chicken Island) from season 1 now that CBS has confirmed a leg in Phuket. It does seem like they've pulled out a combo of "extreme" challenges for this season, doesn't it?

They counted Buddhas in China, Season 16.  :)

The uniforms in the promo match those used in the elephant tours operating out of the Manohara hotel next to Borobudur. (photo source)

Are Bill and Cathi carrying hay? Or is that a cornfield?

I was thinking rice maybe?

In pic 37 is that one of the twins arms? So maybe this alliance could be between Kaylani and a twin.

Yeah I thought so too. Lisa asks her what she has and she says "four hundred?"

And peach is right, here is some rice harvesting: http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-51109681/stock-photo-java-island-indonesia-june-indonesian-women-are-harvesting-rice-on-java-june-on.html

I'm guessing that the Detour is first with the tasks closer to the main Jogja area then the RB and pitstop are in the Borobudur area.

No...we have a greeter at Borobudur for SURE. So RB must be the last task... and Borobudur should be the PitStop.

I have always wondered if the Prambanan temple tweeter mis-spoke Prambanan for Borobudur. :duno:

ahhhh. Remember we had info about the bird market??

Pasar Ngasem Bird Market
Attraction | "Pasar Ngasemn Bird Market"

Quote: This market is the back entrance to the Taman Sari water castle. It used to be a complex of Taman Sari. After the independence of Indonesia from Dutch colonialism, Taman Sari was abandoned. I don't know when it starts, but now Pasar Ngasem is a place where Jogjakartanese find birds as pets. It is the Javanese culture that makes Jogjakarta men like to have birds as pets.

There's a sign that reads Kelurahan Patehan (Patehan Village) in the bicycle trouble shots... If that's the same as Kampung Patehan (also translates to Patehan Village), it's immediately southwest of the Kraton.

From Wikipedia

Quote
At first glance, all the Buddha statues appear similar, but there is a subtle difference between them in the mudras or the position of the hands. There are five groups of mudra: North, East, South, West and Zenith, which represent the five cardinal compass points according to Mahayana. The first four balustrades have the first four mudras: North, East, South and West, of which the Buddha statues that face one compass direction have the corresponding mudra. Buddha statues at the fifth balustrades and inside the 72 stupas on the top platform have the same mudra: Zenith. Each mudra represents one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas; each has its own symbolism.

When did we see Laurence and Zac in this detour? I can't find a picture nor did I see them in the promo.

Also in the RB we see Jeremy not Laurence.

I can see how telling some of these apart can become a problem when the hands are snapped off  :groan:  (images from Wikipedia)

Bhumisparsa mudra

Vara mudra

Dhyana mudra

Abhaya mudra

Vitarka mudra

Dharmachakra mudra

About the only way to complete this Roadblock will be to recognize that the Mudra they are trying to count occupy certain compass directions (or the top/zenith).  The Team that figures this out first will take command of the leg.  Or they could share the info and get some friendship points.

Since it has to do with compass directions I bet the Sunderlands will figure it out first.  Since Zac has already done 2 out of 2 Roadblocks I bet it will be Laurence who does it.   :jam:

I can see the teams easily misreading the Buddha counting task, especially if it  is just the six hand positions used per that Wiki article. Without priot knowledge of Buddist mythology, I seriously doubt Americans will get something that stuble. ;)
