This article in Outdoors, Action and Adventure about the Sunderlands has a shot from the show that is probably from episode 2.

The shot was taken in the Jalan Malioboro neighborhood of Jogjakarta:

Quote
The street is the centre of Yogyakarta's largest tourist district surrounded with many hotels and restaurants nearby. Sidewalks on both sides of the street are crowded with small stalls selling a variety of goods. In the evening several open-air streetside restaurants, called lesehan, operate along the street. Less obvious to the tourist, but more for the local population, side streets, lanes and structures that lead on to Malioboro are as important as the street itself.

(I'm sorry if it shouldn't be posted here :))

From the new promo, I spotted twins are in Bukit Indah Hotel
Bukit Indah was their first stop after they arrived in Jogjakarta (possibly there's an HOO  :duno:)
(spec) : From this photo, looks like they're done picking up their clue and get a route info clue headed to Jomblang caves  :js:

It is interesting to note that last season, when a team was shown to be in trouble during the preview, that team usually ended up being eliminated...

Oh, for me, I always thought it was the opposite. In the beginning, if I saw a "Next week on The Amazing Race" and there was a team struggling, they wouldn't be eliminated the next leg.  :duno: my memory isn't the best.....

I used to think so too but last year they did seem to give clues in the preview. For example Luke's struggle with the tea, Mike's issue in Japan, Zev struggling with the samba, and the Cowboys' Double U-turn. However these clues may have only been apparent to some.

it was super emphasized during the pre cowboys elimination previews.  i think they did that to us bc most ppl were expecting the cowboys to go further.

That was the case in TAR 17 too, Michael struggling with the roadblock in Russia and Mallory's prayer in Oman. I think that happenned with Mika and Canaan  too (well Mika's meltodwn was the highlight of that season, how are you not going to show that in the preview).

Okay, so seeing as I'm in Yogyakarta right now, and not sure if I'll be here after Episode 2 comes out (I did the same train journey as the teams, Gambir, Jakarta to Tugu, Jogja! The trains were really luxurious..), I figured I'd try and see some of the locations we know about already. I failed spectacularly.

I aimed for all the locations in Legs 2 & 3 that were in the immediate vicinity of Yogyakarta:

2 detour locations in Leg 2, both on Malioboro.
Leg 2 Pit Stop: Sultanate Palace.
Leg 3 Route Info: the bird market.

The last two are inside the Kraton, which as I found out, closes at midday. I'll try again tomorrow though!

For the parking detour, first I found the spot where the photo below was taken:

There were at least 6 or 7 guys working the 'parking lot' (actually just a regular sidewalk with scooters everywhere) wearing the same uniform that Laurence and Zac are wearing above. However, not one of them could understand English, so I was unable to find out who was in charge or where the head office of this operation was.

Next, only about 500m down the road is the spot where this photo was taken:

There was nothing nearby that would have offered anything like the dancing on a regular basis, so that too was a dead end.

Not my best day of detecting! Here's hoping tomorrow's visit to Kraton will be more fruitful.

(As a side note, the first post of the 'Timeline' thread states that the Sunderlands were seen performing this dance task, yet we also see them parking, so I guess they must have switched detours.)

I don't know if everyone remembers but Jomblang is a vertical cave and rappelling is the only way in. I was assuming that cap 3 is the way they are getting out as opposed to using a rope and ascenders.
They have some kind of gong set up down there (fwiw it looks a lot like this one: http://www.fotosearch.com/SIX010/ina-069/) and there seems to be a mask involved as well. I'm not sure if the Ethan and Jenna crawling pic goes with that task because it is supposed to be the Roadblock. It also doesn't even look like a cave, but more like crawling under a building.
Does anyone know where they are?

In the TV promo at least 3 teams can be seen running by the Wisma Hidayah hotel on Jl Augus Salim. So it would seem teams are approaching the  nearby pitstop (Kraton) from the west.

It's funny but it seems that CBS can't decide about the title of the episode. In the schedule and the TAR web page is the SPRINT of our lives but in the press release photos is the SPIRIT of our lives.

Maybe they've given the episode title job to the intern again! Did anyone see TAR's Facebook page during Season 18? I know I can be picky about spelling and grammar, but that was just ridiculous to the point of embarrassing!

I think we see the reason teams were spotted going to and going away from the Pit Stop.

The obvious mistake they made was to not give all their own money to the orphanage.   (:;)

This would cause a serious shuffling in the order of Teams finishing the leg.  The ones that read the clue carefully get to pass the leaders who did not.

Marcus from the press release photos.
As for Liz, I think that's Marie in picture 2 because she is wearing a red watch.
Is the man next to her in the same picture Laurence with the black shirt or just an instructor?

Okay scratch everything I just said.

THIS is the STIKES we want: http://stikesyogyakarta.ac.id/

It is indeed a nursing and midwifery school and is located on Jalan Nitikan, around 4km from the Sultanate Palace, the pit stop for Leg 2.

Just a couple of streets from here is Jalan Lowano, the site of one of the two AISYIYAH orphanages: http://www.payaisyiyah.org/index.php?pilih=hal&id=2 which could easily be misheard as 'aisyah'!

Looking over the orphanage's website, there are frequent mentions to nursing, so it appears these are the two connected locations we're looking for.

(Thanks Prophet!)

Thnaks so much!!

Okay adding a bit here....

The caves have a terribly sad and tragic hsitory that you can read here:
http://tripholiday.net/jomblang-cave.html

Brief spoiler refresher:

We know that multiple teams have to "go-back" to a location, I think that Chateau is right on the money. Possibly as many as 8 of the 11 go back. We also know from our live sightings that some teams ALSO had to wait for their camera crews to reappear...  there are photos in spoilers of several teams waiting together.

Remember that we have photos of TWO of those teams "going back", in spoilers,  as in leaving the Pitstop, again thanks to our fabulous onsite team.

http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,25526.msg621260.html#msg621260
http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,25526.msg621588.html#msg621588

Based on the photo evidence given us, these teams may have done the dance detour:

Ethan/Jenna, Marcus/Amani, Jeremy/Sandy and Ron/Bill (?).

And finally...

Reminding everyone of this information on airport sightings AFTER this leg's Pitstop:

This morning, my friend from Kaskus (kotakcokelat) spotted them at Jogja airport buying that 13.45 flight, here are the 5 teams:
2 Blacks (M/F)
A couple with an asian (M/F)
A couple (M/F)
Blondes (F/F)

Don't know about the other 3/4 teams..  :duno:

AND:

Okay guys, here's another info I got while they're out from Indonesia.
Source: http://twitter.com/#!/msindyjansen99

She said she was on the same flight to PHUKET, with blondes, grandmother grandfather, a couple with asian, and THE OTHER TEAMS.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but we can conclude that we just got our first three eliminated teams, right?
Blue M/M, Ethan & Jenna, and Hawaiian girls.

Only time will tell  :waves:

AND:

Hey guys, after searching the information about how the team get out of Jakarta, I got this photo from twitter

It's Zac and Dad at Soetta airport!!

The person who took this photo also spotted Surfer Dudes!!
So, based on available data, the teams that safe through leg 3 are:
2 Blacks (M/F)
Young Couple (M/F)
A couple with Asian (M/F)
Blondes (F/F)
Sunderlands (M/M)
Surfer Dudes (M/M)

Possibly eliminated:
Hawaiian Girls, Blue M/M teams, Older Couple, Ethan & Jenna  :duno:

Based on all that info back at the END OF JUNE, the info on the three teams not seen further past this leg has been right here.

Teams therefore at risk (based on not being seen later ) include Ron/Bil, Kaylani/Lisa, and Ethan/Jenna. As always, not seen cannot 100% be assumed to not be there...but this info was thought to be reliable. So 2 of these 3 may go tonight.

And last but DEFINITELY not least..a HUGE :tu to our Indonesian friends who included us in there onsite spoilers every step of the way. They were incredibly generous with their information, their time, their photos and my zillion and one questions. This leg would not have been nearly as exciting or as much fun without them!!

SO :ty to our anonymous Indonesian friends!!

Does Cindy have asthma?  I saw her using an inhaler while running back to the orphanage.

I saw that too.

This episode was a major shuffle! Is Indonesia penalty-prone? All the penalties the teams received reminded me of the many teams that quitted in TARA1's Indonesia RB.

But, I enjoyed it! These news tasks are simple in explanation but genius in concept!

I'm sad Ethan & Jenna went home, I was expecting a little more from them. imo, Romber even have better co-operation than them. But had it been a normal single elimination, they would still be racing.  :( But, I still love the DEL twist. At least it's been notified at Pit Start so teams will be scrambling for their lives faster than ever. Well, apparently most teams still had problems, that message in the orphanage looked pretty noticeable to me. I mean, I would've thought it was some kind of Thank You/Pit Stop message!

Can't wait for next episode! Looks challenging (but that's the previews so I'm not counting on it 100%!)!

Ok so having just watched the episode, I have a couple of comments about the editing of this episode:

When Justin & Jennifer are arguing at Gambir Station, at least 5 of the 7 reaction shots of other teams turning their heads aren't anywhere near them.

Just after teams get on the train, we see a very congested train go by with people sitting on the roof. The actual train the teams caught is similar to a first-class carriage you'd find anywhere in the Western world, with a television, air conditioning and reclining seats throughout.

Sorry if this seems like a rant. I know they must do this all the time to 'tell the story' but it is eye-opening to see just how often it happens!

I also thought it was funny that when Ethan was talking about giving money to the kids and said 'Cos that's what I'm all about', he looks down at his t-shirt, obviously about to talk about his charity, just as the camera switches scenes!

Also, did anyone else notice how none of the teams looked surprised when Phil told them to go back? Its almost like they reshot that bit after they had already found out..

I loved the way Phil dealt with Kaylani and Lisa, best misdirection ever!

That's true! :hrt: That was the same train when I was on a trip to Jogjakarta. And the very congested train (with people sitting on a roof) is a local train (economy class), who only travel around Jakarta.  :js:

Anyway, I wonder what happen to this scene? Why did they cut off Bukit Indah Hotel scene and go directly to roadblock place?

I would guess that it was only there as an hours of operation thing, in case teams missed the last train of the day. But seeing as teams were on the same train anyway, it had no effect at all.

Here is a fascinating article about getting to, in and out of Jomblang Cave:

Does Cindy have asthma?  I saw her using an inhaler while running back to the orphanage.

I saw that too.

This episode was a major shuffle! Is Indonesia penalty-prone? All the penalties the teams received reminded me of the many teams that quitted in TARA1's Indonesia RB.

realshowfan,

I do not see much correlation with the ROADBLOCK in ARA1, episode 3 at Kuta Beach, Denspar. The only common factor is that a task in Indonesia was involved. That ROADBLOCK was a monster, digging down up to about 40 inches in sand to find a small wooden toy. 4 out of 9 teams actually finished the ROADBLOCK and 5 took the penalty. The general task at the Aisyiyah orphanage in Yogyakarta was much simpler. All teams had to do was to read the warning sign, but at least 7 of them did not. However, I will admit that this general task was diabolical and designed by World Race Productions to deceive. The beach dig was designed to be a brute force task and it had no deception.

From our local observers, we know teams arrived at Tugu train station about 1:45 AM.

I believe teams went from the station to the Bukit Indah hotel from on site info  We also have a verbal confirmation of some sort of shooting there at 0130 AM ++. We also have the screen cap of the twins leaving there in daylight WITH A CLUE , so I think they had a HOO stop there?

From reports, the roads to the caves might have been unsafe at night and all our Jogja driving caps seem to be in daylight as well...so I do not think they went to the caves until very early the next morning.

But still...about a 1-1.5 trip there? And then caves, and then the detour, and MOST teams were at Kraton from 1130 onwards. Fast leg!!!

I think realshowfan just want to say that Indonesia gives a penalty party. I think he didn't compare the tasks that made those penalties.

I don't understand why some things are in the previews that are not in the episodes, like that picture and the hotel. :duno:

No one ever heard the title from episode 1. Episode 2 title was said by Sandy and is "The Sprint of Our Lives" despite inaccurate CBS info.

From an EThan-Jenna interview:

Jenna Morasca: We had a really bad taxi driver, so that's what split the teams up. There was also a challenge that you guys didn't see that actually split the teams up into two groups.

Can you elaborate more on what that challenge entailed?

Jenna Morasca: Out of the train station, we were told to go to this hotel and we had to jump in the cabs and the cabs took us to a hotel. When you got there, you had to grab a key and you were either in the first group or the second group and they were like 20 minutes apart. That's when everyone got their taxi driver that you had to keep the entire leg and that's when, unfortunately, we got into the wrong cab.

She said it towards the end, as they were leaving Phil to go back to the orphanage. Watch the moment that they go down the stairs that's when she said it.

So instead of the drama of teams trying to find or change taxis, teams are basically given their own private chauffeur for the day? That's quite disappointing.

No challenge edited out...just the go to the hotel and get a tag. And we already knew they went there...

The cabbie thing was more of a curse I think. For the teams like E/J and R/B who apparently got an AWFUL cabbie, they could not recover. No chance in the rural locations for getting another.

I'm sad Ethan & Jenna went home, I was expecting a little more from them. imo, Romber even have better co-operation than them.

Although I'm not a fan of couples from other reality shows appearing on TAR, Ethan seems to be one of the most likable individuals in the genre.  At least this episode answered the question posed by people speculating that Ethan might propose to Jenna if they crossed the finish line together.

The only gripe I have about this episode is the misleading edit about Jakarta (or Indonesia). As Dom mentioned, the train with the people on the roof? That was not the outbound train the teams took, or any outbound train for that matter. And do they really need to show a slum as the first shot to introduce Indonesia? Granted it's not a first world country, but it's like the producers are hell bent in portraying Indonesia as India. /end of rant

The Aisyiyah Orphanage is 1km from the entrance gate of the Kraton. We see Bill's watch at their first arrival at the mat (12.20pm, Vidcap A), and again at their second time at the orphanage (12.35pm, Vidcap B). 15 minutes to the kilometre, sounds about right.

For Amani/Marcus, however, B@M says here that their first arrival at the mat was at 11.48am, but their second arrival (and final check-in time) had Marcus' watch say 12.45pm (Vidcap C). Did they really take a full hour to walk 2km, or were they held up for something else?

Now integrating this with the departure shots for Leg 3... I've shown in the Ep3 thread that the displayed times in the episode were off by two hours, which means that Amani/Marcus actually departed at 10.32am (which jives with Marcus' watch in that scene, Vidcap D). Adding everything together, the Leg 2 Pit Stop was, give or take a few minutes, 21h50min long.

Edited to remove blabber about times, directions and shadows, the route teams took wasn't a straight one...
