Looks like the Road Block is skydiving, it's immediately followed by the quad bikes (or they could be combined? Dive in and drive out?), the Detour is Wine/Shoot from Israel (Wine Barrel/Gun Barrel?), and the Intersection is for one or more random task/s.

An article from my TV Guide:

Quote
Tonight's episode sees the remaining eight couples head for Cape Town in South Africa, where one will be eliminated. Along the way, they jump out of planes, deliver gifts to orphans, ride quad bikes through sand dunes and shout at each other a lot.

There's no TBC/NEL this leg :)

If there is no NEL then they may have given away the outcome, so perhaps that is why??

Or maybe they are just having technical difficulties??

There's very little in the video that we haven't already seen. Just Chris carrying a barrel down a track (Perhaps noteworthy- There are three barrels there, including Chris and Ana's.

Then there's general shots of teams doing tasks, while a voiceover asks when & where karma will strike for them.

Here we go. Previously on...

Recapping last week, blah blah blah.

Tonight

Tensions between C/A push them over the edge.

On the toughest leg yet, 1 challenge will stop every team in their tracks.

8 remain, who will be eliminated next?

Matt and Tom hit the beach first, surfers and sisters next. Jeff & luke in fourth.

Skydiving Roadblock: "Who's up for a Bird's Eye View of Cape Town?"

Non participating team member must use flares to guide them to the giant X on the sand.

Dave is skydiving. Mo and Mos are lost and looking very clueless. Currently in last place. They went a mile too far, had to run it in the sand to the cluebox and back.

Matt is kitting up to dive, he'll be in the plane first. Tyler will be in 2nd and Anastasia in 3rd.

Mo has to Skydive because Mos is too heavy for the weight restriction.

Matt and Tom going to the Cokeman in Cape Town.

INTERSECTION! (Peach, feel free to kill the producers now)

Tyler is down second, Anastasia close behind in 3rd. Ana lands perfectly on the X and Chris thanks the instructor for letting her live.

Jeff: "What could go wrong? 10,000 feet, what could go wrong?"

Alana: "Even though its skydiving and I hate heights, I hate Mel throwing in my face that she's done all the Roadblocks, so I'm going to throw myself out a plane."

Jeff jumps with gusto, he's loving it.

Luke is proud of his dad, they hug.

Dave is getting kitted up- "Relax? I don't see how that's gonna happen today."

Dave goes up in a plane just as the models arrive.

Renae is only going to jump 9000 feet, apparently.

Alana looks nervously confident. Mel says she's been doing 90% of the work so Alana needs to step up.

Commercial break.

We're back, Alana has jumped without hesitation, is screaming very loud, Mel is jumping up and down. Hugs all around.

Mel: "She normally freaks out, this is the only time I've seen her not freak out so I'm proud of her."

Alana is about to vomit.

Dave is terrified for the second time in 2 episodes, but jumps without delay.

Mo and Mos arrive as Dave is leaving, Dave is telling Mo he'll love it. Mo looks terrified and asks to go to the toilet before he jumps.

Renae wants to conquer her fear, and jumps quickly. Mo is falling further behind with every toilet stop.

Renae say's she'd like to do it again. Mo is feeling sick.

The instructor is not helping

Mo: "Where's the safety instruction?"
Instructor: "We'll brief you on the way!"

Matt and Tom @ intersection, having a dance while they wait for another team. Chris and Ana at intersection 2nd, Surfers have gone missing.

INTERSECTION: Load up a trailer with gifts for an orphanage and deliver them to receive the next clue.

Surfers now have to wait at the intersection for the next team.

Mo is kicking and screaming, panicking and saying he can't do it. He honestly looks like he's being forced to the door against his will.

And we're back.

Ad for NAB

Mo still doesn't want to jump, but wants to walk away from the race having faced his greatest fear. He jumps.

Mo says it was one of the best things he's ever done, an awesome feeling. Mos charges in and its hugs all round.

Mos: "When he did it I wanted to give him a kiss"
Mo: "That was my 2nd greatest fear... that he would kiss me"

Surfers waiting for about 30 minutes before Jeff and Luke show up and they both head off.

Surfers & J/L arrive at carts as the first pair leave.

Sisters at intersection, go off to pee before doing the task. Dave and Kelly show up in the interim and are worried. Dave and Kelly can't believe the girls went off to pee while at the intersection. Sam and Renae are 7th at intersection and have to wait for Mo and Mos.

Mo and Mos are there, girls telling them to hurry.

Renae: "There will be none of that walking, either"

Alana and Mel have lost Dave and Kelly

Dave: "Fancy taking off for a piss!"

Girls are hopelessly lost and the bikers can't believe it.

Sam and Renae are also lost, getting a police escort.

Mo: "I guess that's why the girls don't need maps."

Mel: "Dave's a man, I'm a man, Alana is sick, so its kind of a two man team we're working with here."

Mel- First female chauvanist ever?

The first pair are at the orphanage, village is reminiscent of where US TAR used to go in South Africa, although nobody has been told they'll get killed for being there yet.

Matt and Tom have never come in contact with orphans, are thankful for where they live. Anastasia wants to kiss all the kids and Chris picks one up.

Chris: "I want to take one home" :groan:

And back

Matt and Tom in first place officially

Detour: Guns or Rose (Rose-ay)

Guns- Shoot nine targets

Roes- Fill a wine barrel with Rose wine.

Second pair finish intersection. Jeff picks up a few kids, more cuddles for the kiddies.

Luke misses his 6 y.o son at home, but hopes this experience will make him a better dad.

Jeff and Luke get 3rd place credit, both are going for guns.

Dave and Kelly wonder how the girls got a police escort and ask if they can get one too.

Girls are being taskmasters but nor really contributing much. Mo and Mos's trailer comes apart

Renae: "We love them but its frustrating."

Sam: "They're not the sharpest tools in the shed which is fine, they've got other qualities. But I don't think its hard to pack a trailer and make sure its tight."

Third pair at orphanage, Dave enjoys the experience. Mel is all businsess and DAVE PRONOUNCES ROSE CORRECTLY!

Both teams are doing Rose

Matt is glad to shoot, hasn't handled a gun in 20 days and wants to relieve the frustration.

They've both been shooting since about four.

Tom: "We had to shoot our feeds before we were off the breast."

The farmers are not as good as they think.

Matt (to Tom): "Pretty piss poor effort if you ask me."

Nathan gets it first try, notches up 4 in his first round of 5 shots.

Luke pops a cool 3/5

Chris and Ana at the wine task, Chris picks up the barrel and carries it, though they were supposed to roll it.

Chris tells Ana to wait. She doesn't, cue yelling.

We're into the area seen in promos. Ana sits down and tells Chris he can do it himself. Ana looks way too smug as she sits there decidedly not helping. She honestly looks like she thinks she's won something here.

And back

Chris: "Who do you think you're making proud, your parents? You're supposed to say I'm sorry for not listening and then I say I'm sorry for screaming at you. If you don't have the womanness to admit you were wrong for not listening, then I'll apologize."

Back at the guns, Matt hit four in a row then "Got a cocky and missed the last one"

Jeff is destroying targets. Surfers finish first, Jeff and luke right behind, Matt and Tom no more than a few shots behind in 3rd.

Teams must now ride quad bikes along 20km of sand dunes at the Cape Town Dunes, searching for baskets containing clues, BUT! Only 3 baskets have clues, if teams turn over a non clue basket, they will find an hourglass of varying sizes that they must then turn over and wait to run out before continuing.

Chris: "I know where I was wrong, but I don't think she does, I know I shouldn't have screamed."

Chris and Ana are done, in fourth.

Last pair at orphanage, Mo lost him mum at ten years old, so this hits him pretty hard. Models dishing out hugs and Mo and Mos deal in high fives. No credits for 7th/8th given.

Renae is in tears as they drive away. Dave and Kelly nearing the winery and Kelly has lost the map.

Kelly: "I decided to donate my map to the orphanage, unintentionally."

Dave is not happy, spitting out sarcastic barbs left and right, stopping for a coffee seems to be his favourite subject at the moment.

And we're back

Kelly at a supermarket to get a new map.

Dave: "GET A BLOODY MOVE ON!" He's also honking a lot and doing some general kicking up a fuss. Also tells Kelly to shut up.

Kelly: "Pull your head in"

And now they're all laughing.

Surfers and jeff and Luke at the dunes, on the course. Surfers take the first basket, its an hourglass. Jeff and Luke take the second and its also an hourglass. Matt and Tom are at the dunes & Jeff and Luke find another hourglass. Dave and Kelly & Alana and Mel at the winery.

Mel: "My thing farted"

Jeff and Luke find another hourglass.

Nathan and Tyler breeze past for the next one. Matt and Tom and surfers get an hourglass. Nathan and Tyler seem to have found a long one.

Mos: "Muslims and alcohol don't go well together, so we're doing guns. Although, some might say that muslims and guns don't go well together."

As if to back up his point, Mos hits 3 in a row.

Dave and Kelly done with the wine, Alana and Mel not far behind. Sam and Renae only just getting to the winery.

Sam and Renae starting to bicker a little, but not yelling yet.

Sam: "What do you want to do? Don't tell me what to do and just do it."

Jeff and Luke: "Everything was going really well until we found the biggest, baddest hourglass we've ever seen.

Surfers and farmers have clues, drie to Pit Stop-Rhodes Memorial in Cape Town. Last team may be eliminated.

Surfers and farmers look like they'll be locked in another footrace. Almost a collision as they head out the single gate.

Jeff and Luke were costed 45 minutes by the hourglass. Decided to skip 2 and then check. Chris and Ana arrive and think they're first, get an hourglass first try.

Big shot of the Honda logos on the quad bikes as Dave and Kelly open their first and get an hourglass.

Mo and Mos rocking the shots, finished the Detour in 7th place.

Both wonder if its the fact that they're muslims that lets them be good with guns.

Jeff and Luke have a clue.

Chris and Ana find the big bad hourglass and Ana still isn't talking to Chris.

Dave and Kelly blow by them as they wait by the giant hourglass and find a clue at the next basket.

Same and Renae working on the wine, out of the detour in last place and back their car into their trailer. They get back in and keep going.

Chris has lost his car keys in the sand and are now looking through the sand for it.

Chris slaps his helmet: "What is wrong with me?"

A fun plug for google maps while we see Dave and Kelly's moment of getting lost again.

Chris apologizes for losing the keys as Mo and Mos arries at the dunes, Amazingly they beat the sisters. The girls are taking it really slow on the dunes and find an hourglass. Mo and Mos go in with a plan, which they admit was a dumb idea. Alana and Mel meet Chris and Ana who still haven't found their keys, who tell Mo and Mos.

Mos: "Am I sort of kinda happy?"

Mo: It was our "Die Another Day moment" like the heavens had opened up.

Matt and Tom and the surfers are both lost en route to the memorial. Both are following a local.

Nathan and Tyler show up clear in first as the sun is just starting to set.

The surfers are checked in number one, and win a $5000 home entertainment system from Bing Lee.

Matt and Tom not far behind, although the mat is clear and the shadows a little longer as they're checked in number 2.

Sam and Renae at the dunes, blow past Mo and Mos.

The muslims are getting globetrotter music and the models get an hourglass.

Alana and Mel have their clue, currently in 5th and heading away.

Chris finds his keys, turns out they are sitting up quite royally on the sand, back to hunting for the clue.

Jeff and Luke in 3rd place, Dave and Kelly 4th with little drama, although the sky is noticably darker for Kelly & Dave.

Chris asks Anastasia to slow down, she doesn't and gets major air on the dunes and tumbles. Chris stops next to her and somebody screams "Medic!"

Ad break.

And back, Ana is crying and we get treated to a slow mo of her falling. Mo and Mos are finished with their hourglass. Medic tells Ana she's fine, just a small cut. Sam and Renae still searching and they have a clue.

Chris and Ana find their clue and head off. Mo and Mos still searching, they now have a clue. Chris is trying to blow sand out of the key so he can get it. Sam and Renae help them get their key and both drive off. Darkness is starting to fall as Alana and Mel check in 5th.

Chris and Ana look a bit lost, Mo and Mos are driving in the night.

Renae: "We're just gonna have to grab it and piss blot."

Sam and Renae and Ana and Chris arrive at the same time, Sam and Renae win the footrace to be 6th, Chris and Ana in 7th. Anastasia has an impressive bruise on her noggin'

Mo and Mos arrive last and are eliminated. The state of Victoria is the first to lose all representation.

Mo is proud to have conquered his greatest fear.

Grant: "It's been great having you here on the show."

Mo and Mos will walk away with more pride.

Next time teams are going to Check (I know thats wrong) Republic. Knights and Arrows.

Dave: "The blondes are still running around, I'm not telling them."

Why do Mo & Mos get music that sounds like Sweet Georgia Brown? Do the producers not understand why it played for the Globetrotters?

Also, I really like this leg. I especially like the task with the hourglasses. Were any of these tasks from another version?

Another fun leg to watch.  This season has been very good from the get go.  At this time it looks like a battle between the Nathan/Tyler and Matt/Tom.  They've been very close the last couple of legs.  Which of these teams will blink first.  It will be interesting to see what happens when they hit Europe.  I'm thinking its about time for another NEL.  Sam/Renae need to get going.  They've slipped quite a bit from the early going.  Still like Dave/Kelly and Jeff/Luke and want to see both teams go further.  Not crazy about Chris/Anastacia and while I like Mel/Alana I think they will self implode sooner rather than later.  Hope that Mo/Mos have a good time with the Big W ladies at sequester.

Actually it was from each of the last 2 ARA2 legs. The penultimate leg had the orphanage task with painting walls substituted for bringing toys. The final leg had the Atlantis Dunes ATV inverted baskets/hourglasses task.

I am glad that TAR Australia is at least reusing tasks which is at least interesting and good in some way. I especially loved the visiting of the orphanage this leg. I knew that it has been done a few times on the race before but seeing the racers stop racing and giving thanks to what they have in life is a plus point.

Detour was a fair challenge, of skill and manual labour. I would have done the shooting challenge even though I don't know how to do it. I just think that shooting is definitely way more interesting than moving barrels and filling them up with red wine.

The Roadblock was... what I call this a truly AMAZING RACE. First they had bungee last leg, this leg they had skydiving. Makes me wonder, when was the last time teams had to do a skydiving or a bungee jumping in a regular season of The Amazing Race?? I don't really remember anymore but I always thought that skydiving and bungee jumping is something you won't be tired of seeing... I know it's expensive.. but it's JUST SO COOL. If you get what I mean.

What I didn't like about this leg was that the sand dunes task already had a luck prospect to it already. So they should keep the waiting time of the hour glasses down to less than 10 minutes. A 45 minutes hour glass is just gross and unfair, IMHO.

Great teams, great leg. Chris and Anastatia =T_T, Mo and Mos are finally gone. The all-male teams are owning the race, of course with the exception of Mo and Mos. I don't know how the farmers are always so quick. Nathan and Tyler are always so competitive. Dave and Kelly and Alana and Mel just somehow fall behind all the time.

Greattt season so far!

I agree.  I AM amazed by this particular race.  I have't seen any of the other non-US versions, so for me the tasks are mostly original.  I can't remember seeing so many really amazing tasks on the US version in a long while.

Allow me to express a contrary view (as if that never happened before). I find the bungee jumps and skydiving and jumping off a tower with proper restraining systems dull. There is never any change in the relative position of teams during one of these tasks. The bungee jumping is guaranteed to have teams come out in the same order they go in unless someone chickens out (which has happened only once in the history of the Amazing Race or Amazing Race Asia that I recall). Sky diving planes are giving orders to make sure the jumps occur in the exact sequence of when teams arrived for that task. It's the same for tower jumps. Also, all the safety gear and training makes the risk of these jumps negligible.

I bet that if I were the one going on these tasks I would find that incredibly exciting. However, watching a telecast of them just fails to excite me at all. That was not the case for AR1 or AR2, but by AR19 these tasks are "old hat" and a bit boring.

These jumping tasks require a leap of faith of sorts, requiring some mental strength in convincing yourself that the straps and all that good stuff will keep you safe.  I thought the camera work on those was fantastic.

I can't help but compare these challenges to the waterslide in Dubai, which DID lead to a change in position.  Very dramatic, but not amazing, unless it's amazing that someone could freak out that much.

I personally prefer the mental challenges that involve figuring something out, and we've seen a bunch of those already on this race.  Good stuff.

I was surprised that we didn't see more women going for the jumping and diving, since they required nerve, but not strength.

It seems to me that order-of-arrival tasks should be placed in an active route marker context, as the waterslide in Dubai was and shouldn't be Roadblocks or Detours.

I prefer skill-based tasks which prove which teams are truly the best. I tend to dislike random searching tasks because sometimes teams can be unfairly disadvantaged at such tasks.

I tend to agree with apskip about the lack of drama when the bungees or skydiving or whatever is done in sequence.  I think there can be drama, though, when there are multiple stations for the task.

There was a bungee in TAR17, but it was in the final leg, and even though they had 3 separate stations, there were no changes in position.

There was more drama in the tight rope RB in TAR16, and with multiple cables, there was chance for some teams to advance while others lagged.

There are other examples of this with various ascending and descending tasks over the seasons.  The tasks can be daring and still result in teams switching positions, which adds to the enjoyment, from my perspective.

I agree that it doesn't changes position or what and it was definitely boring watching from them going up to the tasks and such. But from a racer's point of view, I do feel for them and feel exciting for them as well. Seeing them jump out of the plane and enjoying the skydive...? Priceless.

I think it is appropriate for the first ever season of TAR Aust to have all these tasks, but I agree that after 18 seasons of TAR.. it is no wonder that they cut down on these tasks.
