How I Met Your Mother
« on: February 18, 2011, 04:09:27 PM »
Seeing that we have at least two CBS realities here in RFF...Any fellow HIMYM fans here?
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move

I saw the first four seasons in one month with 6-hour marathons, I'm waiting to get a hold of season 5 and then I'll be able to catch up.

I heard that to. Apparently everyone wanted to do a season 9 but Jason Segul (Marshal) wanted to do more movies but signed on at the last minute.

I hope that we find out the mother at the end of season 8 and then season 9 could be "How I Married Your Mother"(the initials even stay the same)

But I hope they extend it till Season 10, because 10 is always a good season to end!

This post contains spoilers for those who haven't seen all of this season's episodes yet!

I hope that we find out the mother at the end of season 8 and then season 9 could be "How I Married Your Mother"(the initials even stay the same)

I think that might be exactly what happens. We know that
Show content
Robin
and
Show content
Barney
get married in May 2013, and that Ted
Show content
meets his future wife at that wedding
, so it's only a matter of time at this point. I really think that in the last scene of the last episode this season, Ted will finally meet her. ;)

http://news.yahoo.com/cbs-officially-announces-met-dad-170351954.html

After allowing rumors to swirl over the past few weeks, CBS officially confirmed that it is preparing a spin-off on "How I Met Your Mother," which will wrap up in May 2014.

The network has confirmed that the creators of the original show, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are developing the storyline for the new spin-off with help from "Up All Night" creator Emily Spivey.

"How I Met Your Dad" (rather than "How I Met Your Father," as announced by Deadline.com in October) will aim to tell a similar story to its sister series, which fans affectionately call "HIMYM," but from a feminine perspective. As suggested by the name, the show will focus on a mother telling her children the story of their parents' first encounter.

The cast of "How I Met Your Mother" will give way to a new group of New Yorkers taking the place of Ted, Barney, Lily, Marshall and Robin. The new protagonists will get together at a new bar rather than at the current "HIMYM" headquarters, MacLaren's, Carter Bays indicated on Twitter (@CarterBays).

Bays also said that the "How I Met Your Dad" cast will not be introduced at the end of "How I Met Your Mother." He did indicate, however, that the two generations of the show could come into contact through cameos and surprise guest appearances.

While the new series is being developed, US audiences can tune in for the very last season of "HIMYM," which premiered in September on CBS. Josh Radnor narrates the show in the role of Ted Mosby, telling his two children how he met their mother. The latter character, played by Cristin Milioti, finally made an appearance on the show in its final season.

Sounds horrid  :groan:

Anyway, back to HIMYM itself.

Am I the only one who really loves Season 9?

For someone who has felt the show's mediocrity on Season 6-8, I certainly loved 9. Unlike the 6-8, I can count the number of episodes I didn't like on one finger

Didn't notice this was here until now...

I love this show, I marathon pretty much seasons 1-6 when I first watched an episode of season 7...

Is soo good, I was/am a big fan of FRIENDS, and HIMYM gives me the same kind of enjoyment, laughters, the ability to care about the characters on the screen,  I love it... except for what they did to Ted's characters, making him more and more stupid for some reason.

But I will admit I'm waiting for the current season to end, I watched I think until episode 5 and got so annoyed by the stretching of the series, having an entire season develope in 2 days doesn't make any sense, marshal's road adventure is so out of place, but I will admit I always love Lily's "Thank you, Linus" (I think that was the bartender name), damn it I think I'm gonna go watch what I've missed... I've waited long enough.

The Walking dead had their season finale yesterday, I've succesfully avoided spoilers about it to watch it air tonight but...

How I met your Mother, ends today, and I don't know if I will resist temptation, especially because they always post something about it in their facebook and twitter... I'm gonna try my best though  )-**

Just saw it. I have to say, the finale was very very bittersweet like the Lost finale. Part of me hates it, part of me loved it. Still, what a journey it has been. #HIMYM4Ever

Yeap. I read a commentary on TV.com about that according to what was the show the finale have its own logic. Maybe it's right, but I  couldn't help feeling the same bittersweet emotions once it ended.

I need to be honest...

There is so many bautiful moments in the finale...
Show content
From the gang saying goodbye to Ted at the reception, the almost "haaaaave you met, Ted" moment with the Mother, their meeting under the umbrella, the reveal of the name, Marshall going all the way to Supreme Judge, knowing that Lily and Marshall would have their third child, knowing that Robin would get to travel the world as a worldwide reporter, the announcement of Tracy's pregnancy, the reproposal, Barney meeting his "one true love" with his daughter, that last picture mimicking the one from the intro

and you know what Yes, that last moment of the series, was beautiful to watch, but I can't feel anything but betrayed, I'm bitter about this finale, I understand why they did it, but still...
Show content
having this last few seasons building this relationship between Robin and Barney, that to be honest was hard to accept, making this entire season just about why Ted letting Robin go, that freaking Robin Balloon scene, letting his friends be happy together, accepting that Ted and Robin were not meant to be, all that for the first half of the finale to be about how and why they got divorced because their lifestyles were not compatible anymore, watching Barney go back to his roots almost like if nothing happened, is hard to believe, Barney's developement was something that I loved about this season, making me watch Barney say "Can I just be me" was hard, I didn't believe it, it felt like he was hiding his emotions, that he was dealing with his divorce in that way was just wrong to me, watchin Robin just slip away of the group because work and what have you, was weird, this is meant to be in the present, we have cellphones, they can't always hang out at Mclarens but don't tell me Robin didn't want to hang out with her friends and be part of their lifes and instead get 5 new dogs to make her company in her old apartement. I understand the death of the mother as something that could happen, but it didn't felt right, almost like she barely matter at the end, I like how the series ended up being about how Ted was actually trying to convince himself he was ready, and how the kids actually wanted him to move on with his life, and how they were ok with it, I don't mind that, but the mother's death felt meaningless. I have no reasons to believe in a future between Ted and Robin, are the dogs actually a reason for me to believe that she is done travelling the world? so if she is done with that, does that mean Barney would be ok with Ted and Robin, they got divorced because she was travelling, I don't believe Barney is happy living his Clooney years.

TL, DR: I love and hate this finale, it feels like this entire season meant nothing at all.

In some way, and maybe it's a total cliche, but the end missed a "passing the torch" scene between Tracy - when she was ill - and Robin. Not a very long one, but I feel that then the whole Robin/Ted final would fix better.

???  Read somewhere that for all nine seasons they kept the secret of the "mom" from all but one of the cast, the actor playing Ted.

Very sneaky how when speaking to the kids on the couch, he would always say "Aunt Robin".  Technically correct, as she was, at that time,  their "stepmom".   :snicker:
