First and foremost.....WRP is a commerical, money makng enterprise.....routes have to be practical.

So far a little exercise, while the forum is slow.....go to Travelocity.com or any booking site you want and try to book that part of the race from Paraguay to Denmark. See where you actually go and how much it costs for ONE person.....then think of how many people WRP is paying for .......it will be an eyeopener.

Belgrade to Luanda to Cairo (though it could be Alexandria) to Belgrade to Copenhagen...........just see where all you would have to fly to do that.

Or Burkino Faso - Lithuania 

Paraguay to Angola. There is however no flights between the cities. Although I don't believe this route I like the route because they would be visitng new countries.


Then Cairo to Belgrade then Belgrade to Cairo is about the third of the cost from France-Seychelles or Tanzania-Poland.

For TAR 16, I suspect greatly that the leg in the Seychelles was at least partly financed on the Seychelles' end. Moreover, the Seychelles are fairly well connected to Asia, which provides a good way to get a fifth continent without going all the way to Oceania.

With the TAR 12 example, they already saved a good deal of money by eliminating two legs (plus having the two Burkina legs in the same area), thus, they could afford the flight frenzy to Lithuania.

With the TAR 11 example, they were far more likely to spend money to get an "All-Star" race (ie elegant lunches in salt mines, all the rented vehicles, the various intra-South American flights).
