These three photos, to me,

are this place in Google Earth in Muttah, Muscat, Oman. They were built by the Portuguese.
Well I cant get the pic to show, so I will email it to Peach and let her edit this post.
Google Earth coordinates are 23o37'29.03"N, 58o34'43.78"

Portuguese Watch Tower in Muttah/Matrah

Can we take another look at this and see if we can say this is Oman for sure? Dr Rox seems to have it...are we all in agreement??

I believe this is a new cap, so  this combined with our sighting, apskip's great flight info saying Oman as transit is unlikely, AND a new cap, seems as though we would be safe calling Oman as a leg, right??

Can we get some other views to help confirm this 100%??

You all know that this is rehashed material right ?

I will pull out my DVD for Season 9 and check it out. I do think I had seen that location before. I didn't think it was new for this season.

I watched my DVD for the Oman Leg in TAR9. When they flew from Athens to Oman, their first clue was in Riyam Park in Muttah. They had to go to the Giant Insense Burner for route info to the detour. The Portuguese watch tower in my photo above is also in Riyam Park in Muttah. Muttah is a section of Muscat, I guess. When they got the clue, they had to drive about 150 miles down the coast to Sur, Oman. That was the location of the detours. One of the detours was to deliver the camel out in the desert. The other was to pick one of three watchtowers across the bay and find a silver message "bottle."  Watchtowers are sort of a national symbol for Oman. In modern times, they seem to build them everywhere.

Whether the current screencap was from the TAR9 Intro screencaps or from TAR 17, I do not know. When I find a new capture program, I will try and get all the intro screencaps from TAR9 and compare.

Here is a picture of the Giant Insense Burner and the watchtower I think is in that screencap.

Dr. Rox,

I think i have the missing link on the question of where Muttah is. I have searched hard to find it without success. However, I have found Muttrah:

Muttrah, (Arabic: مطرح‎) population 650,000, is a city located in the Muscat province of Oman. Before the discovery of oil, Muttrah was the center of commerce in Oman. It is still a center of commerce as one of largest sea ports of the region is located there. Other landmarks include Souq Muttrah, a traditional bazaar and Sour Al-Lawatiah, a small community of houses surrounded by an old wall.

apskip,

I had no problem finding where it is located. I just don't know what to call it. It is between the airport and "downtown" Muscat. I am sure it started out as separate enclave, but now the the population has moved into the land between all the old towns...it is part of the greater Muscat metropolitan area. The physical geography and topograpny of Muscat is very similiar to Rio de Janeiro, with Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, etc. I dont know if you would call it a neighborhood, barrio, surburb...someting like that, I just can't remember the arabic word right now.. It is spelled a couple of ways.....Muttrah and Matrah....
