Race is on for local versionAn Aussie version of
The Amazing Race is travelling full steam ahead to our shores.
Channel 7 has bought the US format for the highly successful reality adventure series, where Australian teams will race around by any means possible to capture the grand prize.
It has not yet been confirmed whether competing Aussie twosomes will be charging around the world, or just their own vast backyard.
A network insider said the show was in pre-production, and Seven heavyweights were working out the finer details of the local version.
A host for the show is still being decided, but there is hope Emmy award-winning New Zealand television personality
Phil Keoghan - who has hosted the US series since its inception - will be involved.
It is believed other names under consideration for the hosting role include
Dancing With The Stars'
Daniel MacPherson and Seven's
Grant Denyer.
A celebrity spin-off show is also being considered.
The US version of
The Amazing Race has a cult following Down Under. Sydney and Brisbane (And Fremantle! And Broome!
) were used as pit stops in past seasons of the series.
It is believed Seven is prepared to invest heavily in creating a series that mirrors the successs of the international version.
Meanwhile, Melbourne-shot pilot
Winners and Losers has been given the green light by Seven to go into production as a series.
