Okay, full article, copied from the News & Entertainment section "Confidential"

Race is on for local version

An Aussie version of The Amazing Race is travelling full steam ahead to our shores.

Channel 7 has bought the US format for the highly successful reality adventure series, where Australian teams will race around by any means possible to capture the grand prize.

It has not yet been confirmed whether competing Aussie twosomes will be charging around the world, or just their own vast backyard.

A network insider said the show was in pre-production, and Seven heavyweights were working out the finer details of the local version.

A host for the show is still being decided, but there is hope Emmy award-winning New Zealand television personality Phil Keoghan - who has hosted the US series since its inception - will be involved.

It is believed other names under consideration for the hosting role include Dancing With The Stars' Daniel MacPherson and Seven's Grant Denyer.

A celebrity spin-off show is also being considered.

The US version of The Amazing Race has a cult following Down Under. Sydney and Brisbane (And Fremantle! And Broome!  :groan:)  were used as pit stops in past seasons of the series.

It is believed Seven is prepared to invest heavily in creating a series that mirrors the successs of the international version.

Meanwhile, Melbourne-shot pilot Winners and Losers has been given the green light by Seven to go into production as a series.

The female-centric drama stars McLeod's Daughters' Michala Banas, All Saints' Virginia Gay, Dancing With The Stars' Blair McDonough (Blair was also the runner up on the first series of BBOz) and Melbourne model-turned-actor Scott McGregor

There was gonna be one.  It never got past pre-production.

Looks like when this one finally gets rolling, Coutzy's gonna have his/her hands full.

Last I looked it is perhaps 2500 driving miles from Melbourne to Perth and 2140 driving miles from Melbourne to Cairns in northern Queensland. That's a lot of driving unless it the race stays just in New South Wales, which I believe you would agree is highly unlikely.

Seven to produce The Amazing Race Australia

Television,Television Programmes

The Seven Network has purchased the international format rights to the highly successful reality adventure series, The Amazing Race.

A network insider confirmed the program was in pre-production, and that executives were  discussing the finer details, the Herald Sun reports.

The local version will see teams of two race across the country in a number of challenges to secure the grand prize. It is unknown whether competing contestants will also travel internationally.

A presenter for the show hasn’t been settled on yet, however, there is speculation that Phil Keoghan will be involved. The Emmy award-winning New Zealand television personality has hosted the original American series since its inception.

Other names being considered for the hosting role include network personalities Grant Denyer and Daniel MacPherson.

It is understood that Seven is prepared to invest significantly in the local version, attempting to create a program that mirrors the success of the international series. Additionally, a celebrity spin-off of the show is believed to be in consideration.

I will likely kill somebody if they choose to go for a "Celebrity" version instead of allowing me onto the show.

I hear ya, man. At least they said "additionally", and it's right at the end of the article, almost making it seem like a second thought. I'm sure there'd be a huge uproar from Amazing Race fans all over the world if they didn't have a civilian version.

(Then again, the American version is more or less a celebrity edition as it is...  :groan: I'm still holding out hope I'll make it on the show when I apply in a few years.)
"I defy you to come up with a better name than Seven!"
"Alright... how 'bout Mug? Mug Costanza!"

I like how the application asks how many blank pages you have in your passport. Makes me think this won't be a strictly domestic Race. :yess:
