Quote
Jason Bourne has a tormented past, which continues to influence him throughout his lifetime. Jason Bourne is but one of many aliases used by David Webb. Webb is a career foreign service officer and a specialist in Far Eastern affairs. Before the events in The Bourne Identity, Webb had a Thai wife named Dao and two children named Joshua and Alyssa in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Webb's wife and two children were inadvertently killed during the Vietnam War when a fighter plane strayed into Cambodia, dropped two bombs and strafed a spot near the Mekong River. Due to Cambodia's neutrality in the war, every nation disclaimed the plane, and therefore no one took responsibility for the incident. Since he had nothing left, Webb went to Saigon and elected to train for an elite Top Secret Special Forces unit called Medusa, which would remain a Top Secret unit for many years. In Medusa, Webb was known only as Delta One, his code name within the unit.

I predict four things

1. One team gets stabbed in the back
2. They go mental
3. They're probably last like Brian & Ericka
4. They refuse to work with anyone, everyone, ever.

PENANG

The state of PENANG is geographically divided into two sections:

    * Penang Island: an island of 293 square kilometres located in the Straits of Malacca with an estimated population of 745,000 and 24 municipalities; and

    * Province Wellesley (also known as Seberang Perai in Malay): a narrow hinterland of 753 square kilometres on the peninsula across a narrow channel whose smallest width is 4 km (2.5 miles). It is bordered by Kedah in the north (demarcated by the Muda River) and east, and Perak in the south and has an estimated population of 833,000 in 20 municipalities.

The body of water between Penang Island and Province Wellesley is the North Channel to the north of Georgetown and the South Channel to the south of George Town. Penang Island is irregularly shaped, with a granitic, hilly and mostly forested interior, the highest point being Western Hill (part of Penang Hill) at 830 metres above sea level. The coastal plains are narrow; in the northeast they forms a triangular promontory where state capital George Town is located. The topography of Province Wellesley is mostly flat. Butterworth, the main town in Province Wellesley, lies along the Perai River estuary and faces George Town at a distance of 3 km (2 miles) across the channel to the east.

Favorite tourist attractions in Penang are:

Take a trishaw ride or walking tour of the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site!
The trishaw is a cute little peddle-power vehicle that has been around since the days of yore. Decorated with plastic flowers and blinking lights, these are now mainly “tourist mobiles” and are great for going around George Town’s narrow inner city streets.

Sample the popular hawker fare
Penang street food encompasses Chinese, Malay and Indian “fast food”! Eating by the roadside is an experience as you watch locals of all races indulge in their favourite past time – food!

BATU FERRINGHI BEACH
Laze by the scenic Batu Ferringhi beach or take a leisurely stroll along Gurney Drive
With its sandy shores and vast open sea, Batu Ferringhi offers an amazing respite from the hustle and bustle of town. A walk along Gurney Drive invigorates all senses as it boasts of some of Penang’s best street food, shopping mall, and of course, a beautiful promenade!

Take a cable car ride up Penang Hill for the breathtaking view and go on a ferry ride
The Penang Hill funicular train ride in Air Itam is one of the most poplar tourist attractions. The short 30-minute train ride is not-to-be-missed. The famous yellow ferries at Weld Quay were the main mode of transportation between the island and mainland before the Penang Bridge was constructed. The 15-minute ride affords passengers a view of two important heritage buildings – Wisma Yeap Chor Ee and Wisma Kastam, as you head towards the island. Once a thriving maritime port, Weld Quay now houses a bustling bus terminal, ports, clan jetty settlements and restaurants.  The Botanic Gardens has myriad of plants and century-old trees.

Here is a map of the island and western shore of the mainland (note that it can be altered with the control to get a more focused or broader view or moved left or right) and a major features map:

To get from Seychelles to East Asia, Van Munster is correct, as a connection is needed:

EK709 SEZ DXB 0145 0615
EK342 DXB KUL 1030 2125 (note - arrives 2 hours earlier than connection DXB BKK KUL that left Dubai at 0905)

Then there is a wide range of flights from Kuala Lumpur to Penang.

More later, I just need to go and admit at the Hospital. Feeling really ill.

Remember this sighting ..

Phil spotted in Dubai en route to Malaysia (12/12 EK342 arriving 10:30am); team spotted en route from Kuala Lumpur to Penang (12/14)

found a blog  ...

Scooting Around
12/14/09: Penang, Malaysia

We scooted to the Kek Lok Si Temple, which is the biggest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia. Kevin and I aren’t very good at visiting temples, since we usually don’t know anything about them except whatever they say in the brochure they hand out to visitors.

Anyway, the temple seemed nice enough – it was really colorful, which made for some pretty pictures. We spent about half an hour there and were getting ready to leave when Kevin, who was at the front stairs, waved and motioned excitedly for me to come look. “It’s The Amazing Race! And sure enough, it was. Kevin offered up the idea of following the Amazing Race-rs around all day, which I promptly vetoed. I wasn’t going to let us spend our one day in Penang scooting around aimlessly looking for things we couldn’t find.

more at the link above

Had a wonderful reply with more info from Kevin and Zhou from www.nohurrycurry.wordpress.com!!

They write:

Quote
We were about to leave Kekloksi Temple near Penang Hill around 11am on 12/14 when one team and its cameraman and coordinator hopped out of a taxi. A few minutes later two more teams showed up and each team was asking some locals for help. Eventually they all figured out they were in the wrong spot. I was standing next to one of the guys at this point (trying to offer my map but he was talking to a local), and I'm pretty sure they were all supposed to be at Kuan Yin Teng (Goddess of Mercy Temple), but am not 100%. A couple hours later we went to this temple and didn't see any trace of the race.

All we can remember about the teams was that there were three of them - one father/daughter team, one team of two younger guys, and one unknown. (Sending pics for review--peach)

.... They sent a few pics >>>( the last team to leave, since I was too excited that we were watching TAR to take pictures or video up to that point) is the father and daughter.

Unfortunately we didn't get to see a challenge of any sort, but hope this is helpful anyway. Let us know if you need any more information.

Lots more pics starting on page 17 of the locations thread.

Video thanks to Kevin and Zhou from www.nohurrycurry.wordpress.com!!

Just to clarify some things I am seeing misquoted elsewhere...Both of these teams are now believed to be actively racing in Penang.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Leg 7 will be a non-elim, then.

And I was wondering about the "re". Someone must have mistakenly deleted the beginning of the word. The webmonkeys sure know how to make mistakes (or would those be the pressmonkeys?).

Could this leg be a TBC ?

Probably not since Phil said that there would be 12 legs.  If they actually have an episode that's TBC, the first part would start in the previous leg, which means that this segment would most likely be the conclusion.

What about it? If nobody is eliminated on Leg 7, then Leg 8 would eliminate either Steve & Allie or Carol & Brandy, and one of these teams would really race in Singapore and the other would run decoy.

Air Seychelles has a flight to Singapore. But I am not sure if it is scheduled.  :duno:
AmazingRace, if you read the prior posts, it is very unlikely that teams will get to Penang connecting in Singapore. The information on flights plus everyting most significant, is included in puddin's excellent summary of all legs at the beginning of the timelines thread. Had you read that, you would have seen this:

EP08: Seychelles to Penang, Malaysia
EVIDENCE: Phil spotted in Dubai en route to Malaysia (12/12 EK342 arriving 10:30am); team spotted en route from Kuala Lumpur to Penang (12/14)

If you want exact flight information, I posted in on another thread , probably spoilers arounnd the end of January and you should be able to sily find it.

It is unlikely that teams will fly to Penang via Singapore, as ther are better flights connecting in Kuala Lumpur to get to Penang. Singapore will be the recipient of flights the other way, from Penang to Kuala Lumpur to Singapore on the leg after the Penang leg.

I haven't given this speech to newbies in a long time, but they shoudl all read this carefully:

READ THE AR16 THREADS, ALL OF THEM, BEFORE ASKING EXPERIENCED RFF INDIVIDUALS TO HELP YOU. MOST OF THE INFORMATION YOU MIGHT ASK IS ALREADY IN THOSE THREADS
