Shouldn't the thread title be changed to TAR Natural Disaster Curse?

I don't get it. Why do we have to link everything to TAR Disaster Curse?

This is way too far-fetch. Just because a plane departs from KLIA and assuming that it really crashed (not confirmed), doesn't mean that it has any relation to being a "TAR Curse". :res:

PS: Don't mean to be rude Airlines. It's just, the whole incident hasn't even been confirmed as a crash (likely one), and it's just depressing when people do immediately jump into saying that it is a disaster already.. :(

This one is marginal as best as the disaster didn't occur in K.L., and there's now a question about two of the passengers who apparently were traveling on stolen passports (the persons whose passports were used are alive and well elsewhere).

Personally, I don't think this one is going to count because of that factor; there appears to be a potentially sinister cause afoot.

I just heard that there was an 8.0 earthquake 83 km northwest of Iquique, Chile 15 minutes ago as I type this. That's got to have created damage and injuries/deaths. My heart goes out to the people of Northern Chile and Southern Peru.

Update: The earthquake (which was centered offshore) has been revised upward to 8.2. There has a been a tsunami of about 5.5 feet (1.7 m) along the Chilean coast.

I'm ok. I wasn't with my family at the moment but we are all together now. There is a fire going on. Supermarkets were attacked at the moment. The entiee coast line was evacuated in case of tsunami but i believe a wave hit already. We are all a bit shaken but we'll be fine. Thanks for worrying about me guys. Thanks Xarles for the message.

I'm glad to hear that you and your family are OK. I hope that the damage in Iquique and the surrounding region isn't too bad and that life will get back to normal before long.

Vitoko <3333

I just cannot explain how sad it is to have a TAR disaster course thread with RFFers who can explain what has happened to them.

Prayers to you and to people in Chile to get better <3

I guessthe disaster curse needed to hit at some point.

I'm ok guys, I've been posting from my grandmother house that got electric power back.

Boston globe has a number of pictures from Iquique on the web. A couple of them clearly show the roadblock location. The stairs where the contestants waited now has a boat on them. See http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2014/04/earthquake_off_the_coast_of_chile.html

This is just an announcement for the members, no curse at all. There are multiple fires in Valparaiso and Pina del Mar, Chile. Estimates are that over 500 homes have been destroyed. The fireman are having a very difficult time fighting the fire because of the hillside homes and high winds.
