Strictly speaking, the "curse" had to relate to an event in a filming location between the time of filming and the time of airing, and be significant enough to raise questions about whether the cast and crews (especially including the locals) were affected by the event.

Of that there have been very few such events; the hurricane season of 2005, Katrina, and the Great Tsunami of Christmas 2004, seem to be the only ones that have directly impacted in this way.

But I think that we can use this topic to raise awareness about the things that are happening in countries that TAR visits.

Make a new thread then, or change the title. :)

We can def use this thread for more awareness, but the TAR Disaster Curse is part of TAR Legend...so I think the title stays...

Wow! It doesn't seem like it was that long ago. People are still suffering from that tsunami and the sad thing is, I don't recall seeing anything about it on any of the news channels.

I'm sure everyone has heard or seen the Egyptian Protests that ended today when he stepped down

It has had at least 300 deaths and over 3,000 people injured

I think it has long ago be decided that only recent tragedy which happened after TAR visited within 1 or 2 seasons should be linked to the "TAR Disaster Curse" such as the Asian Tsunami in TAR 6...

Otherwise, TAR has visited too many countries and if every disaster is linked to TAR..

I think what she meant was, she was'nt referring to TAR 18 as this was a no spoiler section, but instead TAR 5.

There are no "spoilers" for season 5...once a show has aired, it is not a "spoiler" anymore. Once anything is in the Media, it is no longer consider a spoiler.

the_schnauzers, using that criteria (which I also happen to agree with) I would add to that...... 9/11 (TAR1) and the Chilean Earthquake of last spring (TAR16). I do realize that the earthquake happened after the Chilean episodes aired.

I wouldn't call it a major disaster by any measure, but the wind farm site in Palm Springs (actually the entire Palm Springs region) suffered substantial flooding a few days before Christmas when a 4 day rain storm dumped 5 times the amount of rain they usually get for the entire month of December. This was the heaviest rain in that area in 65 years. There was flash flooding in Whitewater Canyon near the wind farm. Having looked at some videos of the flooding on youtube, I could see some of the mud flow remnants left behind when I looked at the pictures and videos that Chateau took at the wind farm.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago in another thread, but I probably should have put it here instead.
