Ep#12: Which team hits the jackpot?

Well this brings us to the end of this season (damn they fly by quick), luckily a new one started filming this week to tied us over.

1.  If you were Dan, would you have told Big Easy the answer?  Hell would you have given him the "F"?

2.  OK, we have known for a while the final three, so who "wins" who "places" and who "shows"?

3.  Who do you want to win?

4.  Who do you think deserves to win?

5.  Now here at the end out of the 15 seasons, how does this one rate for you?

6.  What was your favorite Leg?  What leg annoyed you to no end?

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock?  Seriously?

Yes, I believe a gambling odds maker included this team in a recent listing of odds to win.  They spelled his name incorrectly in the article, not where they listed the odds (not to mention included them long after they were eliminated).  It is a feeble attempt at humor.

1.  If you were Dan, would you have told Big Easy the answer?  Hell would you have given him the "F"?  Not with a team that did have strengths I didn't have and especially not this near the end.  Hell, I wouldn't have even given him the "F".

I have no real problems with teams doing this, as long as they admit that its a bit mean and that they don't get upset about why other teams might view those actions as mean.  Neither of those apply her as the brothers seem very aware of both.

2.  OK, we have known for a while the final three, so who "wins" who "places" and who "shows"?  Gut reaction.  Brian & Ericka, Meghan & Cheyne, and then Sam & Dan

3.  Who do you want to win?  God this is tough.  I like Sam & Dan Even if they do bicker, I like Meghan & Cheyne (even when she is anal and he is withdrawn), and I like Brian (my favorite racer, personality wise this season) & Ericka (even when she is demanding, rude, and acting entitled.  But I don't feel they have run a  strong race (thats always been a big issue with me, even with teams I dislike or like), so either Meghan & Cheyne (who deserve 4 of their wins)  and are the most consistently strong, focused team or Sam & Dan who have run a fairly strong race (but who get easily distracted by each other and stressing over Flight Time & Big Easy).

4.  Who do you think deserves to win?  Meghan & Cheyne

5.  Now here at the end out of the 15 seasons, how does this one rate for you?  Not bad.  About even.  But better then 14 and 13 in my opinion.

6.  What was your favorite Leg?  What leg annoyed you to no end?I liked several, I don't think I have a favorite (at this point).  LEgs that bothered me the 1st leg (hated how it didn't matter when you got to the roadblock and I hated that when you got to perform the roadblock had nothing to do with the teams.  Hated the 2nd Dubai leg, for it basically giving who ever won the fast forward another win (especially since the team did so poorly that leg).

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock?  Seriously?  I have no clue.  Do they watch the show.  How many legs give you enough window to take a four hour penalty when you are last and still let you be a factor in the race?  Very, very few.  And how did he not see that their were very few possible options.  Besides Marshall & Lance, worst quitters ever.

6.  What was your favorite Leg? The Switchback leg with the haybales. Classic TAR. :lol: What leg annoyed you to no end? Tokyo. Things went too quickly. Plus, too many teams to keep track of at that time.

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock? Big Easy couldn't figure it out. Can't kill him for that. If they could have convinced one other team to take the penalty, then it would have been a more even playing field. Seriously? Seriously :lol:

5.  Now here at the end out of the 15 seasons, how does this one rate for you? Mediocre. I thought it was an average cast, mediocre locations, for the most part, and if Sam & Dan win, that will be "The Cherry On Top Of The Sundae That's Already Melted", to quote Nathan.

6.  What was your favorite Leg?  What leg annoyed you to no end? Dubai #2, Sweden and the two Prague legs were great! The most recent leg was the best. Dubai #1 annoyed me to end, because the best team was sent home and Netherlands annoyed me because of that 'rigged' Detour.

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock? Seriously? Well, I wonder if he was eventually going to get it if he kept going. I don't know if he would've, so I won't comment.

5.  Now here at the end out of the 15 seasons, how does this one rate for you? Eh... I was expecting more out of the cast.  It seemed like the more entertaining teams were stuck in the back and eliminated early on.  And I hated the route, way too many legs in Asia (none of them in a new country, to boot), and no new countries at all until the final handful of legs.  But, the pace seemed to pick around the second half of the season...

6.  What was your favorite Leg? I loved Prague 1, Estonia, Sweden, Netherlands, and Vietnam 1.  Hated Japan, Cambodia, and both Dubai legs

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock? Seriously? The big idiot would have gotten it, probably within the next half hour.  He just needed to continue with what he was doing.  But by the looks of it, he had no systematic way of doing it.  I mean, even if I didn't have a clue of what it was supposed to be, except for the F, I would have made a system: 1. F-A-N-R-Z, 2. F-A-N-Z-R, 3. F-A-R-N-Z.  And then by number 3, I would've been like, that looks a lot like FRANZ, then I would've smacked myself for not having a V8, and continued with the leg

3.  Who do you want to win? Team Yellow!

4.  Who do you think deserves to win? Gary and Matt or Brian and Ericka. They worked hardest for it and haven't argued like the others.

5.  Now here at the end out of the 15 seasons, how does this one rate for you? Roughly mid-table. It was alright. Some good new ideas though.

6.  What was your favorite Leg?  What leg annoyed you to no end? The waterslide was the best, took us through the whole range of the human spectrum. The worst one imo was Veitnam 1. Speed bump was too easy, no Detour, the list goes on.

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock?  Seriously? I don't know, but he gave up WAY to easily for my liking.

My brother suggested that too. Something about their elimination just doesn't add up for me. Just in the way he gave up and Flight Time accepted it just doesn't seem kosher.

Brian and Ericka and Meghan and Cheyne are fated to finish either first or second. The edit points that way. I hope B/E wins, Cheygan places and the extremely ugly edit for Sam and Dan is doomed for a third "show".

This might sound corny, but all of them do. Making it this far takes a lot of work.

Colorfull cast, great locations, interesting tasks; one of my top 3 seasons.

6.  What was your favorite Leg?  What leg annoyed you to no end?
Loved the first Dubai leg, but the Tokyo leg was a little odd for me.

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock?  Seriously?
I wouldn't expect less from them. They try to promote hard work and sportsmanship, but have quite honestly one nothing but stry from that message this entire race. Giving up was bound to happen.

I am sry if this is in the wrong location. I dont/didnt know where to post a question like this. I am new here and still trying to get the lay of the land. If its in the wrong place I am sry.

My question to the board. If M and C come in first. Then they will have won 7 legs of the race, tieing them with Nik and Starr. So who does this board think are a better team? For me its M and C they arent annoying like nik and starr and they are fun to watch. What do you guys and gals think?

I am really surprised about the number of people who say that would have kept there word.  As so many racers lie to other teams over the various seasons.  From tasks to navigation, ect.

Nick and Starr ran an 11 leg Race, while this season is 12 legs, so by that objective measurement alone, it would be Nick and Starr. On the other hand, Meghan and Chenye would end up with the better average leg placement (between 2.00 and 2.16) than Nick and Starr (2.45). So one could argue it either way based on those objective measures.

I think the answer is too close to call because it's Colin and Christie. Even though they did not win AR5 due to 2 flukes (fog in Calgary delaying their scheduled flight and U.S. airport restrictions on checked baggage), they were the most dominant team in any Amazing Race.
Second place goes to Rob and Amber. Even though they did not win AR7 due to the San Juan plane incident and their own inability to find a cigar store in Spanish in the Little Havana section of Miami, they dominated AR7.
Neither Nick/Starr nor Cheyne/Meghan has dominated their race to the same extent.

Here are the statistics for finish order, with the average the most valid comparison measure:

3.  Who do you want to win? The most awesome player left is Brian.

4.  Who do you think deserves to win? Meghan and Cheyne; seriously they're like Nick and Starr.

5.  Now here at the end out of the 15 seasons, how does this one rate for you? TAR 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14 had a better cast. The bad teams were out early though, like TAR 14. In addition, the route was better than 14.

6.  What was your favorite Leg?  What leg annoyed you to no end?
Japan was a bad leg. Wasn't too fond of the tasks in HCMC. The best tasks were the duck roadblock, every roadblock in Europe, the detours in Dubai II, Netherlands, and Prague II. Props to Atlantis slide for being memorable. Seriously, they should've made Dubai and Prague double-legs to stop Meghan and Cheyne from winning so many first-places. I also agree that the FF was useless this race and only ensured another win for M/C.

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock?  Seriously?

GREAT! Not the best for me! But a great race nonetheless!

Dubai 1.0 was a great leg and The Netherlands/ Not any really though Japan was stupid because it was so hyped to be going to JAPAN and then basically nothing whatsoever in the leg itself!

7.  Finally, what the hell was Big Easy & Flight Time thinking about when quitting the Roadblock? I found myself happy and hysterical when Big "Easy" managed to quit and screw it up epically! But I suppose he thought 4 hours would be faster!

In terms of the Meghan & Cheyne/Nick & Starr discussion before, I have honestly hated most of the teams that dominated, but for once, I like Meghan & Cheyne. The reason that I believe they are stronger than Nick & Starr is that they have raced against a much stronger cast, and have still come out on top consistently.

Back on topic: As someone above mentioned, little editings have also suggested to me a Team Yellow upset, so I will go out on a limb and say that I believe Team Yellow 'hits the jackpot'.

It's not that good....a triple slaughter starting from Lance/Keri then Mika/Canaan, then Maria/Tiffany....atleast Brian/Ericka made it further....but great locations, teams are just.... ZZZ =/

Fave: Sweden, since it looks really bright and such a nice place to live in.
Dislike: Leg 3 [Vietnam] ... I dunno =/, but only Lance's smash that made me watch that leg =/

Was anyone watching the show. He couldn't figure out crap and was looking for help with the task. He made a deal and should've stuck to it. Yes, it's a game but he wouldn't have figured it out if Big Easy hadn't helped him eliminate possible answers. My answer is YES, I would've given him the answer. No need to give the "F" because I would have stuck by my "word". Just like Big Easy said, "You are what you are!"

I am really surprised about the number of people who say that would have kept there word.  As so many racers lie to other teams over the various seasons.  From tasks to navigation, ect.

My guess is that everyone saw how confused Danbo(Dumbo) was with the task. He couldn't figure out anything. I understand strategy and I understand "racers lie to other teams" but he wasn't using strategy. I doubt if he knows how to spell it.

This makes no sense.

First one would need to discover how long each of the four racers took to complete a task.  Of which we don't know.  All we do know is that Big Easy took hours.  And we would logically need to see that data.  Once we get departure times (from this week, and thanks to several shots of clocks out during the the episode) we will get a much better idea of how teams really did.  

But you do understand that every team so far as had trouble with some tasks, and that doesn't indicate one's intelligence.  Someone might do something that is stupid, but that doesn't mean that person is stupid.  

I mean logically go through each episode and look at the tasks people had trouble with.  Does the fact that Meghan & Cheyne took hours to put together Hookah's mean they are stupid (they were slower at this task then many teams)?  Or is it just not a skill set they have?

Ericka couldn't count bells worth a crap?  Is she stupid.  In that sam leg, look how much trouble that team had with simply following the instructions of the clue?  Are they both stupid?  Meghan wasn't able to open a locked door with a set of 10 keys, yet Dan managed with no problem, does that mean Meghan is dumber then Dan?  We have Cheyne picking up normal sized instruments left and right, when the clue specifically mentions that they are looking for miniature ones (and is reminded of this by his teammate, and he continues getting normal sized ones, at least three more are shown in footage).  Brian couldn't even get his car going (losing a huge amount of time) how does that indicate his intelligence.

And yes Dan is emotional (he does seem to wear his emotions on his sleeve), so what.  He is hardly the only racer to cry, nor is he the only racer to whine, nor is he the only racer to yell.  Now that might be annoying to you (and that is certainly understandable, its not something I do).  But it doesn't have anything to do with if he is a nice person, or his intelligence or skill sets.

Hell people love the Bowling Moms, yet how often did they complain?  How often did they cry?  How often did they do something questionable?  How often did they yell?  The answer is a lot.  And yet they are a beloved team.  Look at Kevin & Drew and ask the same questions, and god they did it all as well, yet they are also a beloved team.  And in most every case you can pick a team (especially ones that last) and find more then one example of them making a poor choice or doing something that we think is stupid.

Then you type "If there was enough footage to edit and make him look like an idiot, my guess, he is an idiot"

So you think all the racers are idiots, then?  Certainly we have seen far worse errors made (hell just on this season, by several racers) including people in the final.

But what are the events that show "dan" to be an idiot?  And how exactly are they worse then the mistakes the other racers (just in this season have made)?  

Again you can like which ever team you like (or which racer you like), but I don't think it is to much for you (and for me and everyone else as well) to judge each of them on based on the same scale.

Puddin you only know what you see, like the rest of us, Season 15, one night a week. We don't "really" know the guy but if there was enough footage to edit and make him look like an idiot, my guess, he is an idiot. Looks fade.

I am really surprised about the number of people who say that would have kept there word.  As so many racers lie to other teams over the various seasons.  From tasks to navigation, ect.

My guess is that everyone saw how confused Danbo(Dumbo) was with the task. He couldn't figure out anything. I understand strategy and I understand "racers lie to other teams" but he wasn't using strategy. I doubt if he knows how to spell it.
This makes no sense.

First one would need to discover how long each of the four racers took to complete a task.  Of which we don't know.  All we do know is that Big Easy took hours.  And we would logically need to see that data.  Once we get departure times (from this week, and thanks to several shots of clocks out during the the episode) we will get a much better idea of how teams really did.  

But you do understand that every team so far as had trouble with some tasks, and that doesn't indicate one's intelligence.  Someone might do something that is stupid, but that doesn't mean that person is stupid.  

I mean logically go through each episode and look at the tasks people had trouble with.  Does the fact that Meghan & Cheyne took hours to put together Hookah's mean they are stupid (they were slower at this task then many teams)?  Or is it just not a skill set they have?

Ericka couldn't count bells worth a crap?  Is she stupid.  In that sam leg, look how much trouble that team had with simply following the instructions of the clue?  Are they both stupid?  Meghan wasn't able to open a locked door with a set of 10 keys, yet Dan managed with no problem, does that mean Meghan is dumber then Dan?  We have Cheyne picking up normal sized instruments left and right, when the clue specifically mentions that they are looking for miniature ones (and is reminded of this by his teammate, and he continues getting normal sized ones, at least three more are shown in footage).  Brian couldn't even get his car going (losing a huge amount of time) how does that indicate his intelligence.

And yes Dan is emotional (he does seem to wear his emotions on his sleeve), so what.  He is hardly the only racer to cry, nor is he the only racer to whine, nor is he the only racer to yell.  Now that might be annoying to you (and that is certainly understandable, its not something I do).  But it doesn't have anything to do with if he is a nice person, or his intelligence or skill sets.

Hell people love the Bowling Moms, yet how often did they complain?  How often did they cry?  How often did they do something questionable?  How often did they yell?  The answer is a lot.  And yet they are a beloved team.  Look at Kevin & Drew and ask the same questions, and god they did it all as well, yet they are also a beloved team.  And in most every case you can pick a team (especially ones that last) and find more then one example of them making a poor choice or doing something that we think is stupid.

So you think all the racers are idiots, then?  Certainly we have seen far worse errors made (hell just on this season, by several racers) including people in the final.

But what are the events that show "dan" to be an idiot?  And how exactly are they worse then the mistakes the other racers (just in this season have made)?  

Again you can like which ever team you like (or which racer you like), but I don't think it is to much for you (and for me and everyone else as well) to judge each of them on based on the same scale.

Editing only goes so far. Sam & Dan DID have to actually provide the material. I suspect that if any of the teams in one of these last legs acted like that, it would have made it onto the screen even if the editors wanted us to like them. These fights obviously weren't fabricated.

But at the same time, for all I know I may be that person when I'm on the race and under all the stress that goes along with that (and in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if I was). So I don't think TV personality is enough to judge a person on (at least not their character). Best not to judge them at all until you know them, and even then, judgment is likely not made knowing all the facts. So yeah, don't judge a person's ultimate character.

At most I think editing might have shown more elements of teams arguing (and I mean for all the teams), or some vocal editing (which is also known to happen) such as Cheyne, Cheyne, Cheyne, Brian, Brian, Brian, or either of the brothers at each other.  Certainly all three types of events did happen (and probably fairly often), but did it reflect the on average 16 hours they spent with each other day after day (probably not).  In fact I would say that we got a could mix of the bad and good of each of the teams.

The only event that I think got talked about a lot was the taxi taking, and the lying to Big Easy.  Now we know teams lie to other teams (it happens a lot, from "Did you find the clue?"  "No" (which the number of teams that have lied about that our tickets, ect is probably a majority of teams.  To racers trying to manipulate circumstances to their favor (getting another's cab, telling ticket agents not to help, telling hotel clerks not to help, ect) also happens usually several times each season.  But we never heard Phil talk , for example about the Trotters "taunting", or how the Trotters threatened increased physical contact with Sam and Dan, Meghan & Cheyne breaking their word twice with two different teams.  Now one Makes since (as that team doesn't know that they did it), but the other did.

But judge the material fairly.  Does Sam (or Dan) get upset after the arguing?  Nope, in fact they (with one exception) laugh it off.  The exception was one member being so upset with himself, not the person getting yelled at being upset.  This is also the same with either of the final two couples who have often fought with each other, yet both teams seem to not let it have any real effect on their feelings toward each other.  That type of arguing usually doesn't bother me.  Its the teams that when they argue, they really seem hurt and that hurt stays with them.

I mean look at season 9 you had two couples that lasted most of the season, one argued all the time (MOJO) and one that almost never argued (Ray & Yolanda).  Yet Mojo always got over their fighting, and quickly.  Ray & Yolanda (the one fight they had) lasted two full days.  They were upset and mad at each other, and it took a long time for them to process it.  We see many other examples of this (especially with clips) of all sorts of teams Friends, families, couples, ect having this problem. 

And when it comes to racers making poor or stupid choices (or being an "idiot"), one only has to look at this episode to see examples from every single team.

The one poster I was responding to seem to be expressing that only one racer was idiot.  And that, truly doesn't reflect what was broadcast on the show.  At least in so much that the other racers all made numerous errors.

OK, OK, OK I was a little hard on the Beaver, but it's my opinion. I don't think he needs anyone to take up for him. He is a GROWN man. Of course, there were other teams that made some bone head mistakes. I think it's wonderful how the teams didn't let it affect their game. My issue was the heart felt cry that made America sigh and seemed to be a turning point AND it was, a turning point for more yelling and screaming. I said it before and I will repeat what Big Easy said, "You are what you are!" No amount of editing can change it....We live in the real world, not TV.
