I've a feeling we're gonna uncover people crazier than me!
But here's one location I feel for, heck, it's five minutes away from my apartment!
Destination: Old Kennedy Town Police Quarters
Route Marker: Roadblock, Hong Kong TAR 11
Pictures taken: August 2007
This place used to serve as a police dormitory, but as I recall, it has been abandoned ever since I started going to kindergarten on the same hill (back in the early 1990s). For some reason the government never decided to demolish it, instead leasing it out for random film shoots like Hong Kong police/thief dramas.
The MTR (Hong Kong's subway) recently announced plans to extend the Island Line west, placing a station right about where the buildings stand. As of now, they're slated to be demolished the first half of next year, victims of Hong Kong's perpetual property boom.
Which brings us to the trip. With the three blocks doomed to the wrecking ball, security is tight and a couple of survey teams and construction workers mill about throughout the day. It's guarded by a gentle but firm Sikh, and apparently 'student wishing to take photographs of Hong Kong's cultural heritage before it is destroyed by the soulless government' didn't work very well as an alibi.
So I sneaked in by walking along/inside a drain and sliding down an unfenced concrete reinforcement wall behind the complex... strolled out nonchalantly through a workers' entrance when I was done!
