I'm surprised TAR did so well opposite the world series, although I suppose it didn't get really exciting until the 9th inning (Go Yankees btw!) Hmm. One more post, where should I put it?

TAR was a stand out amongst CBS Sunday night only second to 60 Minutes which had 12.3 million viewers overall, not bad at all TAR!!

TAR was definitely helped by no Sunday Night Football last night. But even so, 11 million viewers is quite good. 2nd overall to the World Series is where I expected, but the number of viewers was surprising. Final numbers should be out later today.

We should also point out that the preliminary demo was stii above 3.0 even with the Woeld Series.
And TAR stayed ahead of that home makeover show.
Next week, CBS has the doubleheader, and FOX doesn't have baseball. And I expect CBS is be promoting the heck with the Flashback. A lot of old-time TAR viewers who haven't watched in recent seasons may well check that one out.

CBS' take on TAR's ratings this week: THE AMAZING RACE 15 was second in households (6.5/10), viewers (11.22m), adults 25-54 (4.2/09) and tied for second in adults 18-49 (3.3/08, with ABC). This matched last week's season high viewer delivery. #18 THE AMAZING RACE 15 (11.22m)

I think Dubai leg 2 (specifically the detour) turned this season around and gave it some momentum. That's when the interteam drama began.
Good to see that we're top 20 in viewers!

I don't know the math that connects ratings with ad rates, but CBS seems to be running a bargain basement on Sunday nights.

Even though ad time for TAR is lower in cost than some of the other shows on Sunday nights, don't forget that CBS pays less for rights to air and production compared to those other shows. CBS is making more from TAR than Three Rivers or Cold Case, as scripted drama are more expensive to produce.

Well technically we did have 10,000 more viewers this week then last, but still having are two most watched episodes be on nights without a sports overrun is simply awesome news (as we typically always do better with an overrun).
Also very, very good news is how much the adults 18-49 demo is doing. Especially without the help of the NFL.
Look at the rest of CBS lineup.
60 Minutes 2.1-2.2 for the last two weeks.
TAR 3.4 and 3.3
Three Rivers 1.7 and 1.6
Cold Case 1.9 and 1.7
That demo is what pays 85% of the ad rates that CBS gets. We increased 50% over 60 minutes and CBS lost 48% of that audience with Three Rivers. TAR is currently the only show on Sunday for CBS that is still competitive.
And why are we still not getting 13 full episodes a cycle? It does not make sense.

And don't forget the Travelocity product placement, and now the Discover Card infomercial(?) at episode's end. More $$$ for the network. (Don't see those on the scripted dramas either.)

The overnights are out and TAR was again helped by the NFL overrun. Sunday 11/08/09 HH/Rtg/Shr NBC 11.2/18 CBS 8.4/13 ABC 5.9/ 9 Fox 3.9/ 6 ---------- -Percent Change From the Comparable Year-Ago Period (Sunday, November 9, 2008): NBC: +17, Fox: - 7, ABC: -17, CBS: -18 ---------- Note: The fast affiliate results for Sunday will be posted at PIFeedback.com by 12 p.m. ET. Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Sunday, November 8, 2009. ---------- -Yesterday’s Winners: 60 Minutes (CBS), Football Night in America, part three (NBC), Sunday Night Football (NBC), Desperate Housewives (ABC) -Honorable Mention: The Amazing Race (CBS) -Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): NASCAR (ABC), Football Night in America, part one (NBC), Brothers (Fox), American Dad (Fox), Three Rivers (CBS) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown: NBC stood well above the Sunday competition, with a healthy 33 percent metered market advantage over second-place CBS. Third overall was diluted ABC, followed by Fox, which always picks up steam among target adults 18-49. Sunday Night Football on NBC, Dallas at Philadelphia, averaged a hefty 14.3 rating/23 share in the overnights from 8:30-11:45 p.m. ET, with the half-hour breakdown in primetime in follows: Sunday Night Football (NBC) 8:30 p.m.: 13.7/21 (#1) 9:00 p.m.: 14.5/22 (#1) 9:30 p.m.: 15.1/23 (#1) 10:00 p.m.: 13.7/22 (#1) 10:30 p.m.: 14.4/24 (#1) Earlier in the evening on NBC was Football Night in America as follows: Football Night in America (NBC) 7:00 p.m. – part one: 3.6/ 6 (#2t) 7:30 p.m. – part two: 5.4/ 9 (#2) 8:00 p.m. – part three: 9.0/14 (#2) As always, interest builds as the half-hours progress. Since CBS’ primetime rotation started about 15 minutes late due to a football overall, all individual program results are approximate and broken out as follows: CBS/Sunday 7:00 p.m. – NFL Football/60 Minutes: 14.6/24 (#1) 7:30 p.m. – 60 Minutes: 12.1/19 (#1) 8:00 p.m. – 60 Minutes/The Amazing Race: 10.1/16 (#1) 8:30 p.m. – The Amazing Race: 6.7/10 (#2) 9:00 p.m. – The Amazing Race/Three Rivers: 6.6/10 (#3) 9:30 p.m. – Three Rivers: 4.9/ 7 (#3) 10:00 p.m. – Three Rivers/Cold Case: 6.3/10 (#3) 10:30 p.m. – Cold Case: 5.7/10 (#3) ABC opened the evening with minimal interest for a half-hour portion of NASCAR at a last-place 3.1/ 5 in the overnights at 7 p.m. Next was an abbreviated version of America’s Funniest Home Videos (#3: 3.5/ 6 at 7:30 p.m.), followed by aging Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (#3: 5.9/ 9), Desperate Housewives (#2: 8.2/13) and Brothers & Sisters (#3: 6.3/10), which held 76 percent of the second-half of Desperate Housewives (8.3/13 at 9:30 p.m.). Although Emmy loves to nominate Rachel Griffiths for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama on Brothers & Sisters, it is Calista Flockhart who is more than worthy of being recognized this season. Last in the overnights was Fox’s combination of relocated Brothers (#2t, 3.6/ 6), a new candidate in Mr. TV’s annual listing of TV turkeys, a 7:30 p.m. version of American Dad (#4: 2.6/ 4), which tanked without the lead-in support of Family Guy, an 8 p.m. installment of Family Guy (#4: 4.4/ 7), Family Guy special Seth & Alex s Almost Live Comedy Show (#4: 4.0/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.), the regularly scheduled edition of Family (#4: 4.6/ 7) and a 9:30 p.m. airing of The Cleveland Show (#3: 3.9/ 6). Final numbers are out
60 Minutes (7:20pm) - 16.853 million viewers - 10.6/17 HH - 3.8/10 A18-49
The Amazing Race (8:20pm) - 11.617 million viewers - 6.9/10 HH - 3.5/8 A18-49
Three Rivers (9:20pm) - 7.985 million viewers - 5.2/8 HH - 1.8/4 A18-49
Cold Case (10:20pm) - 8.166 million viewers - 5.4/10 HH - 1.7/5 A18-49
Thats a season high in viewers and adults 18-49.
Look at how significant Football is to CBS jumping from 2.1 - 2.2 to a 3.8 with Football.
TAR had a 3.4 - 3.3 to a 3,5 with Football. This season football has helped TAR, but not as significantly as the lsat three years.

That is not bad considering that NBC had an average of 21.9 million watching Sunday Night Football opposite TAR, so getting 11 and a half million viewers is very good. This season is resonating with viewers. I'm not sure why, but I'm not questioning it.
Considering the NFL is getting record ratings this season and sports opposite is TAR is doing well, it's nice to see the Race is holding its own.

I think the different locations visited in this race is an important factor (not the common countries such as India/China/Thailand/France/Germany/Italy/Russia/Brazil).

CBS has to be noting the consistent performance this season and with the turmoil with the rest of the Sunday schedule, I think we will not be seeing them mess with a sure thing. If they open the purse strings to start outside LA all the better.

CBS Corp. lost about a billion dollars (US) in their last fiscal year, and they were a network that was percieved as having done better than its three main competitors. This also explain what seems on the surface to be peculiar strategies by GE to spin off NBCU to a joint venture with Comcast Cable, and why Disney and News Corp. seems to be faster on the trigger with some new shows. (Still doesn't explain why Three Rivers is still on the air, but I suspect CBS is not convince they have a replacement that will do any better.)
I'm not expecting budget increases anytime soon. TAR is carrying its own weight revenue wise, as are many other CBS shows, but there are losses, and the CW is doing poorly as well.

CBS reported net income of $207.6 million compared with a loss of $12.46 billion in the third quarter of 2009, when the company wrote down the value of its TV and radio stations.
Revenue of $3.35 billion for the quarter was flat compared with the year-earlier period.
"There is no question that we are seeing strong evidence of a recovery right now," CBS Chief (etc.)

So far this season networks have been slower (then usual) at canceling shows. Typically each network has killed at least one or two shows by the start of November.
But this year its been different. It is though that do to most of the shows that are new having standard 13 episode orders (and most are probably filming episode 12 right now), that it would be cost effective to let those 13 episodes air instead of producing and never airing them.
Finally some shows are getting canned this week (some terrible performers that reruns of other shows would easily outperform). But make no mistake Three Rivers is dead. If CBS wanted it to continue they would have already ordered addition episodes (they didn't). Think of it as a soft cancellation.

Many of us in the eastern and central time zones are going to be facing yet another week where the single NFL game on local CBS stations will be the one late (4 pm) game. http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/2009/10-CBS.htmlThese areas include in no particular order: Florida (from Miami to Tampa), New Orleans, Atlanta, Charlotte, most of Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, and Minnesota, and small parts of Nebraska, Iowa and the Dakotas.
