Although the Hitta site mentioned previously has adopted Mapjack streetview, it doesn't extend as far as Haggvik. It does have slightly better satellite resolution though, and a neat 3D function similar to Bing. Compare the TAR6 cap below to Vasby Bog, just west of Haggvik station.

Neobie:

I note your marking of the Cornelius Lely Monument on the Afsluitdijk causeway. I have been doing a lot of research on the Afsluitdijk and, in spite of the fact that I think few care about these type of details, I offer this information:

1. I believe that World Race Productions has erroneously labeled the Cornelius Lely Statue as a monument. There are not many references to either a statue or a monument there, but the majority clearly indicates that this is the statue completed in 1933.
2. I was incorrect in labeling the Lookout Tower on the Afsluitdijk as a monument. More references do say that it is a monument, but the majority consider it to be a lookout tower. I did see one notation of when it was contructed but did ont write it down. It was either the 1960s or 1970s but build in the style of the 1930s.

Then I went back to my tape of this episode and discovered that the Statue and the Lookout Tower are on opposite sides of the causeway. There is an exit both ways to a built-out parking lot and there is a connecting footbridge so that people ehading north can cross to to statue and people heading south can cross to the Lookout Tower. The clue was at the statue. I do not know how those exits are marked, but it could easily say "Monument" to cover them both.

Some stuff besides google:
  • The Tallinn site uses GIS mapping from the Land Board, so it's a little slow, but the aerials have more definition and you can search for addresses and features (like bogs raba)
  • The Artmap mentioned earlier shows the Old Town well (just don't copy it to the web, the author is particular about rights)
  • Digital Tallinn has a little applet (click on Virtual Tour) that shows panos throughout Old Town

The Hawaii streetview imagery has finally been processed; shoreline access 118 (the beach luau site) can now be established at the end of Lipoa Road in Wailea.

In addition to GE/streetview, Mapy and Praha Mesto (city server map) both offer good detail and interactivity, and Virtual Travel and Virtual Prague are good places for panos.

Thanks to the crew who figured out the white-water rafting WHILE it happened! Pretty famous landmarks this time round.

Would it have been a good idea for Herb and Nate to cross the river to the Nadrazi Holesovice Metro Station directly instead of waiting for the tram? It's about one mile by road...

Definitely walking, since there's a bridge halfway between the detour and the tram station.

Hi Neobie,

Just wondering, where did you get the template for your race map? It's really nice... :cmas9

Thanks,

Wow, thanks for the awesome maps! :cmas16

Just one thing I noticed; at the top of the first Tallinn, Estonia map, it says "Lithuania". Just pointing it out. Thanks for the great maps, though! :kisses
