I only counted 11 teams & 11 backpacks, but 12 cars. As a Math major, it's kinda that I can't count properly. Plus, I don't think they ever had excess cars for the start of the Race.

awesome work guys thanks afterglorock!

No Problem!  Glad to help...just pissed i didn't bother snapping any photos.  There was another team that came through my gate area asking to borrow a laptop with internet access..  It was a male/female in their mid-late 20's... didn't look at him much, but she was a hot blonde!  I wanna say they were wearing purple...??

Looks like 12 cars to me.
From closest to the front, back: black, white, black, 2 white, black, 2 white, black, 2 white, black.
Try counting side windows or trunks?

The car in front looks a little different than the rest. A "pace" car for safety, perhaps?

Maybe 12 cars incase 1 breaks down? For instance I remember the big deal about the extra car for TAR8 and someone started a rumor here about a secret extra team
Plus the black car on the end is oddly parked don't you think?

It's definitely parked at a different angle.

True... Phil does has a flight to catch as well after all. You've done a great job guys - I'd love to help but I very much doubt they'll show their faces around my neck of the woods.

It looks like 12 teams:

in the starting line pic, why are there 2 police cars?  Were they for security or team transport to the starting line.  Every Season of the race had unusual transport to the starting line.
AR1-Bus; AR2-Car; AR3-Fan Boat; AR4-Car; AR5-Boat; AR6-Car; AR7-Helicopter; AR8-Boat; AR9-Car;
AR10-Seaplane; AR11-Boat; AR12-Car; AR13-Car; AR14-Helicopter; and now what!! Police Cars to transport the teams to the starting line.  Well the LA River area sounds perfect backdrop use of these vehicles. Like Los Alamitos/Helicopters; Lake Union/Seaplanes; and the Everglades/Fan Boat.

I'm just counting stuff like everybody else.

The red team that was spotted inside the AA gate area was also spotted at the AA checkin:

Perot eventually re-entered the race in the fall of 1992, with Stockdale still in place as the vice-presidential nominee. Stockdale was not informed that he would be participating in the October 13, vice-presidential debate held in Atlanta, Georgia, until a week before the event. He had no formal preparation for the debate, unlike his opponents Al Gore and Dan Quayle. Stockdale infamously opened the debate by saying, "Who am I? Why am I here?" Initially, the rhetorical questions drew applause from the audience, [2] seeming to be a good-natured acknowledgment of his relatively unknown status and lack of traditional qualifications. However, his unfocused style for the rest of the debate (including asking the moderator to repeat one question because he didn't have his hearing aid turned on) made him appear confused and almost disoriented. An unflattering recreation of the moment on Saturday Night Live later that week, with Phil Hartman as Stockdale, cemented a public perception of Stockdale as slow-witted. He was also often parodied for his repeated use of the word "gridlock" to describe slow governmental policy.

OMG! They're a hot lesbian couple and circus performers too! Synchronize swimmers for some Vegas show. Too much fun eavesdropping!

She's a lesbian, performs in Cirque du Soleil (circus), is a synchronize swimmer for some Las Vegas show too. The only problem is that she looks "too old" to be hot. But she does look hot at her age though.

Yes, I might have at least one match here. The Harlem Globe Trotters should be Nate "Big Easy" Lofton (#52) and Herbert "Flight Time" Lang (#4).

I know these two made it far in the casting process together. It's possible they went with a different partner for one of them, but I doubt it. I think it's these two.

Hope that helps the search.

I'm starting to get a weird feeling about this seasons cast.  I thought it was funny thet one team was professional poker players, while another seems to be (former synchronized swimmers/Olympians) circus performers,.  Now I see a third may be Harlem Globetrotters.  hmmmm...  couild we possibly have "stunt casting"?  All athletes (albeit it's a stretch calling poker players athletes) or professional performers.  Possibly a "sports" theme.  Tough to say with only a few teams scoped out.  I hope BVM has not totally sold out for ratings, and included a few "ordinary" people to the mix.    Just a thought.... carry on.
