« on: February 06, 2009, 01:31:49 PM »
 :hearts:

I am starting this thread for those who wish to discuss the episodes of TARI!

Thanks to some old friends, it looks as though we will have a way to watch the episodes, with the first one available perhaps as soon as today.

If you HAVE a link to the episodes that is obtained from "unofficial" links, pleae PM it to me or email it to me (address available in my profile). DO NOT POST IT HERE.

If you have a link such as YouTube or from the official TARI site, then please do post it here.

If you NEED or WANT a link to watch, and are a registered RFF member with at least 5 posts, then PM or email me and I will direct you further.

Please be aware that this thread will contain spoiler info if you have not yet seen the episodes. Previews of the following episode may also be being discussed, so be careful if you don't want to be spoiled.

If anyone can do a weekly recap in English for us, or finds a recap in English anywhere, please post it here!!

LINK TO WATCH FROM OFFICIAL SITE:

http://www.reshet.tv/newsite/programs/reality/the_%20amazing_%20race/the_amazing_race_prakim_meleeim.aspx

Leg 1 part 1 Summary:

10 teams start on a race around the world at Ben Gurion airport in Israel.

The teams are:

Elena (24) & Liran (20) - Beauty Queens
Guy (30) & Shay (32) – Business Partners, young fit attractive guys
Allen (32) & Inbal (26) – Formerly Dating, Claim to have a good relationship, they don't
Eliana (33) & Yael(32) – Friends, wealthy successful women
Gil (54) & Tom (27) – Step Father/Daughter
Maor (24) & Asher (24) – Friends, the "uncultured Israeli" stereotype
Hadas (25) & Inbal (24) – Friends, the blondes
Michal (35) & Ran (39) – Married Parents, very aggressive couple
Hannah (55) & Margalit (62) – Kibbutz Members/Life long friends, naïve elderly women and doesn't seem to be aware that they are in a race
Amichay(33) & Maya (30) – Dating, Strong guy and his whiny useless girlfriend that wants to get married already (Jason & Lorena anyone?)

After a long boring speech from the host teams have to get to a stand in the airport and randomly pick an envelope containing tickets to one of two flights to Port Elizabeth, South Africa. One arriving at 12:50 AM and one arriving at 14:50 PM.

Teams on the first flight: Beauty Queens, Blonds, Eliana&Yael, Amichay&Maya, Hannah&Margalit
Teams in the second flight: Gil&Tom,Guy&Shay,Michal&Ran,Maor&Asher, Allen&Inbal.

After arriving to Port Elizabeth teams have to locate a marked vehicle and drive themselves for the first rout marker at Kragga Kamma Park:
Teams have to follow a marked course over swamps and then attach a log to their car using a rope. Teams then had to drive a further distance dragging the log behind them to get their next clue.

The blondes are the first to arrive, they quickly go through the course but foolishly tied the log too tightly to their vehicle and couldn't untie at the end point, Allowing both Amichay & Maya and Eliana & Yael to pass right through them.
Hannah & Margalit where the 4th team to arrive but got stuck in the mud and had trouble operating their vehicle, when the beauty queens arrive Elena insisted to stop and help them to Liran's dismay, not being able to help them Liran insisted they have to leave and drove off, leaving the elderly women stuck in the mud.

After being passed also by the beauty queens the blonds succeeded to cut through the rope with a broken mirror and got their next clue guiding them to Nomathamsanqa village.
In Nomathamsanqa teams have to locate a local fruit stand and carry a basket of fruit on their heads to the Sangoma priestess to receive their next clue.
Amichay & Maya where the first to arrive, Maya who where scared to get out of the car for fear of the locals, had a lot of difficulty with the task but in the end accomplished the goal and mumbled something about feeling spiritual (Whatever…), the teams had to head up to Tsitsikamma park and receive their next clue.
Both Eliana&Yael and the beauty queens arrived at the village in about the same time, but while Eliana&Yael finished the basket task quickly and headed of to Tsitsikamma Park Liran struggled leaving her and her partner behind and allowing the blonds to catch up.  Both teams finished the task in about the same time.

After being stuck in the mud for hours Hannah & Margalit got help from a local and finished the course only to miss the turn to Nomathamsanqa and drive in the wrong way for hours.

After the second flight arrived all teams beside Allen & Inbal made it to Kragga Kamma Park. Ran was upset to be behind friends Asher & Maor claiming that Maor drives like an old lady, the friends also had difficulty tied the log to their vehicle and lost it several times.

While all other teams already finished first rout marker Allen & Inbal where completely lost and started to argue and scream at each other, Allen refused to receive help from the locals claiming that they all alcoholics. Even after finding the park the exes couldn't stop arguing causing a lost of time.

Ran & Michal and Asher & Maor where the first from the second flight to arrive to the village. Asher cracked jokes about his Georgian decant claiming that if he really had cubicle shaped head as the stereotype says the basket task would have been match easier, after reaching for the priestess Asher swore to come back to the village and "heal it from landmines"(it sound as stupid in Hebrew).
All other teams beside Hannah and Margalit had finished with the village task and where heading to Tsitsikamma park.
Even though they got lost on the way and Maya's refusal to get out of the car and ask the locals for direction (apparently they are too scary), the couple arrived first to the park only to encounter the opening hours. Eliana & Yael, the Beauty queens and blonds arrived shortly after.

Hannah & Margalit eventually found the village, even though they knew they were last they took the time and sang and played with the locals and drove off to Tsitsikamma park arriving hours after all other teams.

In the end all teams arrived to the park for a night layover, Allen and Inbal that arrived in 9th place where still arguing with each other even after they checked in.

Current placement:
Amichay & Maya
Eliana & Yael
Elena & Liran
Hadas & Inbal
Michal & Ran
Gil & Tom
Guy & Shay
Maor & Asher
Allen & Inbal
Hannah & Margalit

To be continued…

The Mole contestants met below the statue of Virgin of the Immaculate Conception on San Cristobal hill in Santiago. I believe in TAR7 they rode funiculars to the base of the statue.

Raymond,

You stated that "Shanghai skyline (I forget what season? 7 ?)
6 & 7 as I know."

You are correct on season 6. AR7 never goes east of Alleppy, India where it turns and heads back westward. It is impossible for Shanghai to have been in season 7.

I would like to supplement the information that retard boi has provided on the first leg:

1. Kragga Kamma is both a Game Reserve and a Game Park. Without a knowledge of Hebrew, I can't tell which.
2. Tsitsikamma is definitely a National Park, not just a park.
3. It may be OK to call the ending of leg 1 a TBC, but technically that is not so. There is no ending to leg 1 yet sicne it ended with a complete bunching with a 730am to 5pm Hours of Operation, which is different from a TBC.

These are relatively minor points. Without Hebrew, I got only a fraction of what retard boi did and my hat is off to him for an excellent recap.

I only gave opinion of the contestants in the begining just to direct you to the right type cast - when you read the info provided things like "dysfunctional couple" , "hillbillies" or "psychotic lawyer&midget"beside are not there for some reason  :-[

in the recap itself I haven't made anything up , all the thing that where written (and I know what contestant you protect, I am sorry but she came out awful in this episode) where said on the show. you can blam the show's editors if you like...

Is the show in English or Hebrew? If it's in English, I may just go download it.

Recap episode? (:;)

Loving the tasks that they're not copying off earlier versions. The fan puzzle, the bamboo dance, the Harajuku girls - if they weren't blatantly reusing displaced tasks (Finnish wife-carry in Vietnam?), I'd give them full points for creativity!

Double-length legs - no wonder Hannah (or is it Margalit?) wind up in hospital!

Aah. T'was a satisfying episode.

See? You can put Pit Stops at like the most famous attraction in a city!
*though it was very blatant product placement*

Such a waste of food... *craves Macanese peanut and almond cookies*

What tradition does Hong Kong have that would require a head shave? *stupid tasks hate* :dick

AAARHHHH! That's my street! *dies. repeatedly.*

Very well-played, show! Highly recommended episode, even for those who haven't been following TAR:I. (It's the 1.01.54 clip on their website.)

Here's a local's take on how it stacks up against the other Hong Kong episodes...

TAR 2.7 7/10: Great showcase of Hong Kong's blend of new and old, featuring herbal recipes and fishing junks juxtaposed with cargo ports and skyscrapers. Also, the awesomeness of "Did you ever think in your life you'd be in Hong Kong?"

TAR 2.8 8/10: Visit to Tin Hau was pointless, but... lions versus dragons! Limousines to the airport! And Oswald/Danny stumbling upon Hong Kong's biggest claim to fame! Aah. Delicious.

TAR 11 2/10: Too much dawdling on stunts, and inventing fake "traditions". Goes against entire spirit of The Amazing Race. FAIL.

TAR:A 2 0.5/10: Thanks, show. Go all the way to Hong Kong for product placement and a pointless task. Half a point because Hong Kong = money, and they got that right.

TAR:A 3 6/10: Campy tasks, but can see how handbags and gutting fish are part of the locale. Fortune cookies, though? Disappointing. (Announcement: you will find more fortune cookies in any store in San Francisco's Chinatown than you will the whole of China.)

TAR:I 1.7A 8.5/10: Hong Kong as crowded busy money-making metropolis. Correct! The subway beating the taxi. Finally! Dumping them in the centre of town with no regard for spoilers. Yes! Good use of culture: the absence of 4s, ping pong and much more. Upping the herbal tea, yet staying perfectly acceptable bounds! Drawback: They're force-fitting that FF into every locale now.

Damn. Previews look badass!

Anyone want to weigh in on the portrayal of your city/country in TAR:US/TAR:A/TAR:I?

PS. I was/am totally that nerdy kid with the glasses. Minus the ping pong prowess.

Busy Yee Wo Street (Causeway Bay)
Famous Marine Product Street in Sheung Wan
And.............Beautiful Chinese Garden in Lai Chi Kok

Looking forward to seeing the next episode
Kung Fu in Sha Tin and ............

I would but they've only been to Scotland for a Highland Games Roadblock  (:;)

I absolutely loved this episode except for the head-shaving. That's that task been done in India, Brazil and now Hong Kong. Any places that I've missed? I liked the task with the numbers and then the safe.

All things considered this has been a great season so far. The only real drawback is that they keep copying tasks from other versions. The best tasks have been the ones they made up themselves.

Total agreeance. Hopefully the leg will drag on to the night next week! A perfect ten will never be achieved until they make use of Hong Kong's night lights... (Something like Macau last week would have been good!)

Total agreeance, again! I like their challenge producer. Number task could have been a liiitle bit better (less trivial numbers, please), but the tasks that they've come up with are sometimes genius.

(I thought TAR3 did Scotland pretty well, for the short time they were there!)

Actually, this is pretty obscure, but head shaving as a fast forward existed way back in season 2 in the Bangkok leg (Cyndi reported on TWoP that she and Russell were going to do it, but decideded against it because she heard Blake & Paige were going to). It was unused and unaired, though.

But I agree - this leg was perhaps the best of the season, minus the head shaving. And Guy & Shay and Maya & Amichay doing well. Everybody else here has spoken my mind, though, so no new thoughts. XD By the way, what was that one blonde doing in the previews that caused her to faint? Obviously it was to break through bricks, but does hurting your hand warrant taking an extended rest? :P
The Incredible Race 2: Currently in Kathmandu, Nepal - Episode 4 is up!

Just looking at your posts, it made me so much eager to return to HK! (And yes! I'm returning there quite soon!!!  :jumpy: :jumpy: :wohoo: :wohoo: I just hope any race would be filiming! Last time I returned there, TARA3 was filming on the very exact day I got lost in Central and in Mongkok - I was almost there with the racers and the clueboxes the whole time and didn't even see it!)
Just with the tasks and WIKI, I'm more than happy to see other sights and sounds of the place other than what we usually go to...

And Neobie, I quite agree now that TAR:AS HK leg was the worst of all complete Hong Kong legs.
And TARA2's Hong Kong drop by was the worst drop by to another country made by any race together with Germany during their season.

I'm quite eager to watch this show already!!! I just couldn't understand a thing  :'( :'( Just looking at the wiki makes me so excited to watch this!

I wish our US TAR would be equal to their greatness! I also wish TARA (whom they have the same producer in Israel - McKay?? Am I right??) be as good as this one, because they just proved that they could really make quality television!

We see the Star Ferry Pier a lot, don't we? That's a visit for each of the five legs we've been to Hong Kong? Beat the Macau Tower (three for three), but still one short of LAX (six for six)!

Hong Kong has moved to joint-third with Auckland for most-visited city (behind LA and Bangkok), bumping China (Taiwan excluded) above India to the top-spot in the country ranking. Hmm!

(Will go downstairs to ask the herbal shops about the crazy Israelis once I get the chance!)

Edited. Thanks Raymond.

China  - TAR 1, TAR 2, TAR 6, TAR 10, TAR 11, TAR 14, TARA 2, TARA 3, TARI (9)
India - TAR 1, TAR 4, TAR 5, TAR 7, TAR 10, TAR 12, TAR 13, TAR 14, TARA 1, TARA 3 (10)

India is still ahead by one season.

Macau/Hong Kong tasks always being so interchangeable (except casino task in TAR:A): (:;)
Head shaving task: (:;)
Everything else about this leg:  :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

I couldn't tell if it was a non-elimination leg all the way until the previews for the next leg. Hmmph?
Love every team left!

Causeway Bay > Wan Chai > Sheung Wan > Kowloon City > Wong Tai Sin > Shatin: How... linear!

TAR2's Mary/Peach: Hong Kong > Kowloon > Hong Kong > Kowloon > Hong Kong
TAR11's Charla/Mirna and Eric/Danielle: Kowloon > Hong Kong > Kowloon > Hong Kong
TARA3: Kowloon > Hong Kong > Kowloon > Hong Kong

Tusha updated with this at Sucks:

Quote
just a little news update from today, on ynet [title is "chicki chicki check in", as a gesture to Hannah & Margalit], here's the link: http://www.ynet.co.il/art...0,7340,L-3723739,00.html

there are some pictures of the team and Raz & GF on Ben Gurion airport in Israel.
according to the article, the teams are flying to a secret destination where the final will take place.

the pics are from this saturday, so i guess they are racing right now, kind of exciting, isn't it?

i'm happy the final won't be totally live. there was a show in israel a few years ago called "racing to the apartment". it was very similar to the amazing race, but the race took place only inside Israel- it actually was a low budget version of the amazing race. on this show, the final was all live and it was just awful, horrible!

i hope the final won't ruin the whole show...

BTW, TARI subtitles are on their way... they will be published starting on july... it will be worth the wait! we've already started working on it.

this week, i believe that there will be the last non-elimination leg.

Thanks, Tusha!!  :hearts:

it depans of how you define "final".
The episode that was aired today (3 hours ago) was the start of the first leg of the final, and the last episode that was filmed a few months ago. they finished this leg at New Zeland.
The next episode will be the final, which was filmed this week, closest as possible to the airing date to prevent spoilers. the teams have been flown back to New Zeland for the final. according to rumors, the teams will arrive to Europe on the last episode, 1 week from now- I hope it's true.

Well no surprise there, it's Terminal 3 (the Intl terminal). So everyone's on the same flight to the Final Destination City? 'Cause this looks unlikely, no less for 20 racers and an entire bunch of crew!

LOL

it does look too complicated...

maybe their already filmed the morning part in new zealand when they read in the envelopes where is their final destination a few months ago, and the cut will be on the flight part, so it'll look like teams are flying from NZ to final destination, but it's actually the flight from israel to the final destination.

or that the final destination will be NZ and they won't have any new destination on the final (that sucks...).

i wish it could've been final in Israel, but i know it can't be. our country is so small that two seconds after the finish line will be done, there will be pics all over the internet.

you must understand that our country is so small that everyone saw at least 1 reality contender on the streets incidentally.

i can tell that i was bumped to someone from Big Brother Israel in the streets of Tel Aviv, and saw 2 competitors from Israeli SYTYCD (1 at a resturant, 1 at the mall), LOL.

my sister, BTW, saw Hadas from TARI on student day in Tel aviv a few weeks ago.

LOL

it does look too complicated...

maybe their already filmed the morning part in new zealand when they read in the envelopes where is their final destination a few months ago, and the cut will be on the flight part, so it'll look like teams are flying from NZ to final destination, but it's actually the flight from israel to the final destination.

or that the final destination will be NZ and they won't have any new destination on the final (that sucks...).

i wish it could've been final in Israel, but i know it can't be. our country is so small that two seconds after the finish line will be done, there will be pics all over the internet.

you must understand that our country is so small that everyone saw at least 1 reality contender on the streets incidentally.

i can tell that i was bumped to someone from Big Brother Israel in the streets of Tel Aviv, and saw 2 competitors from Israeli SYTYCD (1 at a resturant, 1 at the mall), LOL.

my sister, BTW, saw Hadas from TARI on student day in Tel aviv a few weeks ago.

i think top 3 teams and Their respective cameraman flew to New Zealand, and Eliminated Teams and Raz Flew To Europe. i think that make sense!!!

a few words after watching the final:

the final was ****ty for many reasons, but the main reason is that the final was not planned well.
i'm am really disapointed. a great season like this one deserves a much better final.
i hope the producers will learn from their mistakes and create a worthy final for TARI 2.

so don't get your hopes too high...

I had a big Tata&Will vs Chris&Alex flashback from that final. Shay&Guy were a strong entertaining team, but the finale task (that was planed and filmed after the show was aired) was programmed for two strong men team.

Although I didn't like Maya&Amichai as a team they should have won - they arrived to the finale task in a concidrable lead and lost it becouse it was extremly physical (see TAR5 brick shoving at egypt but up the hill) and Maya is a small woman agaaist two fit men.

final leg was great (not the team that won), exciting tasks, and the teams were really close to 1 the million shekels.... the only thing that i didn't like was the eliminated teams talking!!!

It was a finale with exciting tasks for a change!

But yeah - too many straight-forward tasks which take the same time no matter what, which leads to the only placing-switch taking place only at the very end - damn! Would have loved to see Tom ve Gil have a chance!

Not an awesome awesome finale, but it did look very good - and the season itself was pretty neat!

Tusha, what's that bit about the eliminated teams running around recycling bottles and driving product-placement cars around?

it was a stupid thing called "the green task".
during the show viewers have voted on the show's website to decide which team will do this task.
i belive that it should've been somthing big at start, 'till producers have decided that the final won't be live- and actually minimized this task to somthing minor as it was.
at this so called "task", teams who had the highest nomber of votes has recycled bottles & drove in a hybrid car to announce the other teams that there are flying to the finish line to support the 3 finalists.

Anybody know anything about this?? ???

Quote
Those who went to the recent WWDC were able to be part of a revolutionary new iPhone experience - at least tThe Amazing Race Israel”. But the stream only worked with iPhone OS 3.0.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKUio-8665Y

So you will want to know what that means for us - the average iPhone user. Well, several things - firstly, the iphone OS 3.0 is being released to developers today. That means that we can expect a pretty quick response from at least some TV stations around the world and be able to subscribe to their networks in the near future.

It also means that we should see the iReshet app released any day now - as the promise at the WWDC was that the iReshet app would be released soon after the iPone OS 3.0 had been released. Reshet is the top/ most successful channel in Israel - you can get a preview of the quality of their shows in the above video.

Finally, the app will allow live TV application for both the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch. So keep an eye out for this app - if only to get a look at whatis in store for us with live TV on the iPhone.

This is extremely confusing. Why don't they just fly to The Arctic or Sahara Desert to film the finale. I'm sure no one will see them. :res:

According to this page:
http://www.mako.co.il/entertainment-tv-media/tv/Article-2c9e1fbcd1cd321006.htm

there will be 2 more seasons, one VIP and one with normal people. I think the VIP one was already filmed or going to be filmed, maybe the pictures in Masada, Israel were from the VIP version.

The pictures from Masada were photochopped, a deliberate attempt at misleading....

And I am not sure that anyone in today's communicative world could manage to do a leg much less a race without us spotting them.

i am seeing the possibilities of reducing of legs, and might be visting to countries that are 'low on budget' (eg: Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Africa, Ghana, etc)
Singaporean here - PM me, if you need me to translate, Chinese, Malay, English, German or Japanese

I doubt if they will be able to. Unless they are planning to conduct the race only in Asia or South America, but still I doubt if production of a second season will be beneficial - the rating then to drop after the first season rush. I won't be surprised if they will change their minds again or decide to make a "celebrity edition"  :( as they initially intended.

Is anyone able to help me work out which team members are which? I'm adding this version to the timelines I'm working on, now that I've got a copy of the whole season, and I can't figure out who's who in any of the teams. (It doesn't help that the only name of any co-ed team member I've heard before is one that's applicable to both men and women.) Just screenshots with English-language labels would help immensely.

Just rewatching this season for something I'm working on, and... I couldn't figure out the safe challenge in Hong Kong. More specifically, I couldn't figure out how they got from the numbers 2, 4, 7, 12, and 17 (the answers to the five questions presented) to the safe combination of 1748 (at least, using all five numbers). Can anyone help?

That part confused me when I watched it, but looking at it now the best I can come up with is

17[(7+4+12)*2]

Also, while I'm in this thread I want to mention that Reshettv's Youtube channel is now region blocked. Can't watch it here in the US, so I'm guessing only Israelis can.
