It looks that way, as there appeared to be 12 legs to AR14. Also, the thinking is that there are 12 teams, which is why there were 12 legs without too many NELs.

12 episodes comes from my Timeline as the apparent amount needed to have the race from Oct. 1 to Nov. 22.

12 teams comes from one of our threads. I can't remember who concluded that but somebody did.

Stupid country music awards!  I remember how that impacted TAR8 and almost TAR9, really when the show was on Tuesday.  Now with the show's Sunday move, it couldn't be an option.  But no!  The ACM moves to Sunday.

Okay, j/k around.  IIRC, the ACM was on Sunday last year.  Plus, I was wondering what the special was that would possibly cause TAR14 to be preempted.  Stupid me thought the show was going to start on 2/22/09, but stupid me forgot about the Academy Awards.  So, I figured that something was up, or that it would be 11 segments, but ending on 4/27/2009 (boo).

Anyway, this clears up a lot of stuff in terms of what happens and what is happening.  I thought there would be a CBS special on Easter to push TAR back (and that couldn't happen for another reason, that would push back TAR in a different but familiar way).

So, the schedule is what the schedule is; as for the following:

Quote
Though I'm somewhat curious as to how March Madness will affect all this.

March Madness starts on March 19.  It's the first of four days full of Round 1 and Round 2 action.  Some of the late games might cause TAR to start a little late.  Whatever it takes for the field to get back down from 64 to 16.  Then Week 2: another set of four consecutive games starting on March 26, ending the following Sunday, and possibly pushing the show back a little.

Those will probably be the only events that will affect TAR.  Other than the Masters, which concludes on Easter Sunday, April 12.  So, there will be TAR, but it might get delayed more than the weeks the NCAA Tourney ends for the evening.

Winning isn't everything, but it isn't considered nothing either. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a tribal council, a pit-stop, a boardroom, dimming of the lights, and so on

We can take a brief vacation from Amazing RAce spoiling, but please udnerstand that we have 5 legs (or 4 if you believe it will be only 11 legs) of AR15 left to find. We have the first 4 legs up through Romania in hand and we have the Phuket and Guilin legs. We do not know the following:

the 2 or 3 legs after Romania and before Phuket
the leg between Phuket and Guilin
the final leg Finish city

For the leg between Phuket and Guilin, there is a weak data point for Shanghai. For the final city we believe it's in Hawaii although we don't know which island yet. For the legs between Romania and Phuket we know nothing other than a sighting of Phil changing planes in Delhi airport. As a Christmas present to ourselves, let's see what we can do to fill in the blanks.

well, we do sort of know the final leg --- we have had the hawaii spoiler which seems pretty legit

I wouldn't discount somewhere Russia either ...

Yay!! More dirt!! Thought the well had run dry on info from here in Romania, but just got this email from a friend here in Brasov:

"So I sat next to a guy at the wedding yesterday who is a cop in brasov and was assigned as a driver to some of the supporting crew for the amazing race when it came through. from bucharest they had to take the train to brasov, and they went to the black church where they found out their road block. i don't remember what the first one was but the second was something to do with a gypsy village. he didn't know what else they did in brasov but from brasov they went to bran and he said he didn't think they went to Bran Castle but they did have their pit stop. in all he said they spent about 3 days in romania and from here they went to russia."

Sounds like a maybe to me! Russia is of course huge. Amazing Races have visited Moscow and St. Petersburg and I doubt that either one will be on AR14. Many of the neat places to visit are now part of the Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia or Azerbaijan. The other major cities in the European part of Russia(west of the Ural Mountains) are:

Krasnodar
Volgograd
Rostov on the Don
Smolensk
Gorky
Yekaterinberg
Omsk
Novosibirsk
Novgorod
Samara
Chelyabinsk
Kazan

There are no other million-plus population cities in the southwest quadrant of Russia. The two I like best for an Amazing Race visit would be Volgograd(formerly Stalingrad and before that Volgograd) with great history and Rostov for being a center of leisure activities.

Do we have any RFF members in Russia?

Whats a good backpacker destination in Russia? Seems to be the theme of things. Even Guilin! I did some research and didn't know it was a so called backpacker friendly place.

puddin, Guilin is not a big backpacker place. However, anyone who wants to get to Yangshuo, the backpacker/hippie capital of China and 40 miles from Guilin, will almost certainly have to go through Guilin.

Information about backpacking in Russia is pretty difficult to come by. I attempted to click on the Russian hostel list (276kb) at

Russia Hostel List Entry Page

However, the response was a FORBIDDEN warning. I don't know if you could get better access, puddin, but such a list would tell us where backpackers go.

I personally have been to the Golden Ring of 12 towns north of Moscow. I have been to only 2 of them; they are good places for backpackers.

It would be neat to see them in Volgograd. It is one of 4 places in the old Soviet Union I would like to see. I have wanted to go to Volgograd since I was about 10.....also Kurst and St Pete in Russia and Kharkov in the Ukraine.......well one day.

Dr. Rox, when I hear where you want AR14 to have gone in Russia, it reeks of World War 2. Back then Volgograd had been renamed Stalingrad and there was a huge battle there plus the famous tank battle at Kurst and the battle for St. Petersburg (of course it was renamed Leningrad then) and the battle of Kharkov. The first 3 were turning points on the eastern front while the 4th was a German victory.

Let me guess. You are a World War 2 history buff.

I personally would like to go to those places one day. I dont really care if TAR goes to any of them or not. You mentioned Volgograd.

My parents had a villa once about 50-60 miles from El Alemain and I visited there. An when I was backpacking around Europe in late teens and early 20s I hit all the major places this side of the Iron Curtain. Since it no longer exists, I would like to see the ones that were closed off for so many years. I have left flowers at most of the memorias and cemetaries. Lots of people died at those places I mentioned, so I could live free. I appreciate their sacrifice and like to show that appreciation.
