With the Beijing to Honolulu sighting, would that mean Phuket-Guilin-Beijing-Hawaii, with Central Siberia coming before all of this? Would this also be the "Russia" that's supposed to come after Romania (edited, can't keep my E Europe countries straight)?

Beijing again, huh? (This makes Shanghai unlikely...)

If Hawai is Leg 11 (most probably) than:

Leg 1: L.A to Switzerland
Leg 2: Possibly Switzerland
Leg 3: Austria
Leg 4: Romania
Leg 5: -- (Unkown most probably Bulgaria or something)
Leg 6: --
Leg 7: Russia
Leg 8: Thailand
Leg 9: Guilin
Leg 10: Beijing
Leg 11: Hawaii

We are close if this all right!! :cmas26 PURE SPEC. Derived from the info we have

Yes Neobie! Siberia after Romania unless of course they went somewhere Russia before Siberia. And as mentioned in the other threads, longer legs in 1 place which if course means less flying ( rah rah Gman  )

eta: I was just watching Bizarre Foods today in Beijing and had turned it off when Andrew started eating Donkey skin/ noodles :eww

 Does this mean the tips (and tips and tips again...) for the Olympic Stadium in Beijing could FINALLY be coming true??  I was ready to give up!

According to an interview with BVM in TV Guide (for week of January 5) teams will be visiting fewer airports (rah rah) and will suffer through a blizzard in Central Siberia and will have "Olympic-themed challenges in Beijing

That can account for two missing locations.  Central Siberia could mean a visit to either Novosibirsk or Irkutsk or Ulan-Ude or perhaps Krasnoyarsk And these three cities are connected to Beijing by  a major rail link.
Damn my tvguide wasn't there today but thanks for the info Gman  :jumpy: "Central Siberia" !!!!!!!!!!!
Anything else Gman?

Not much more to say; one place I haven't been (missed an opportunity to spend time in a Siberian Gulag coutesty of Uncle Joe).  But could be reached after Romania with flight through Moscow (again) to one of the central Siberian cities mentioned above.  Flight then could go down to Thailand. (What is it about TAR? They go through a place and civil unrest erupts after they leave?)

GMAN, this is great news, but I do not think it means what you think. A Russian location in Siberia(Nov. 10 or 11 or maybe one leg later) is a real plus for AR14. However, there is not going to be any rail trip to Beijing. Teams still have to get to one or two places before PHUKET on Nov. 16 and they are not going to be east of Phuket; they should be northwest of Phuket. Beijing is known to be Nov. 20/21. See my TIMELINE if you don't believe me. I am going to copy it below to update the Siberia information into it.

I should point out that bragging rights don't appear to mean much to Bertram van Munster or Elise Doganieri. I think they would delight in providing false information which causes RFF and others to go off the deep end. So, I do not consider it being announced in TV Guide to be definitive. van Munter has constantly put inadvertent wrong information into his public statements so what would be the problem with going one step farther?

GMAN, this is just for you. All others must visit the Timetables and Flight Information thread ot get this information.

AR14 Timeline(revised 12/31):

Oct. 31 leg 1 depart U.S. for Locarno, Switzerland via Frankfurt and Zurich or via Milan:
The only applicable flight in the right time frame from the U.S. is UA990 SFO FRA 1348 0830

A different route goes LAX to Milan-Malpensa(MXP) as follows: TN022 1145 0845+1 connecting with AF1214 0945+1 1145+1

Here are the bus schedules in the same time frame:
Shuttle bus leaves airport  Arrival in Bellinzona at  Connecting train leaves  Arrival in Locarno
12:30                                           14:20                              14:39                        14:58
14:30                                           16:20                              16:39                        16:58

From LAX to Milan-Linate a similar schedule applies:
TN (Air Tahiti Nui) 022  LAX CDG  1145 0845+1, conecting with  XM5997  CDG LIN 0935+1 1110+1

From LAX to Zurich via Frankfurt we have the interesting combination:
LH457  LAX FRA  1435 1025+1 connecting with LH3726   FRA ZRH  1200 1255

What I find most interesting is the fit LH457/LH3726 has with the observer comments about seeing 7 teams in Frankfurt Airport the morning of Saturday Nov. 1. I expect no other reason to go to Frankfurt except to connect to Zurich. There are 10 nonstop flights on Saturday between Frankfurt and Zurich, so if any are delayed there are alternatives.

The train schedule from Zurich to Bellinzona to Locarno indicates that 3 1/4 hours is required. Here is is:

Train leaves airport Change in  Connecting train leaves  Arrival in Locarno
11:47  Zurich HB (main station)             12:09
                                Arth-Goldau           12:52
                                 Bellinzona             14:40                         15:06
12:47  Zurich HB (main station)             13:09
                                 Bellinzona             15:40                         16:06
13:47  Zurich HB (main station)             14:09
                              Arth-Goldau             14:52
                                 Bellinzona             16:40                         17:07
16:47   Zurich HB(main station)             17:09
                              Bellinzona                19:40                         19:06

It is my belief that AR14 teams used a minimum of 2 flight combinations to get to Locarno. One may be to Milan, another to Zurich directly, and a third to Zurich via Frankfurt.

Nov. 1 arrive mid-morning in Europe and reach Locarno sometime in the afternoon; then tasks; this might be a TBC to allow known timing of next leg, but probably isn't
Nov. 2 leg 2 Locarno to Domodossola to Spiez to Interlaken by train; then tasks in Interlaken
dep. Locarno 1047 arr. Domodossola 1235
dep. Domodossola 1248 arr. Spiez 1353
dep. Spiez 1425 arr. Interlaken West 1454 or dep. Spiez 1432 arr. Interlaken West 1451
total trip is 4 hours train

Nov. 3 leg 3 Interlaken probably by rail to Zurich, then plane to Salzburg; arrival possibilities mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and late evening
From Interlaken to Salzburg, the early morning Tuesday(as in Nov.4) train schedules are:

dep. Interlaken West 0605 transfer trains in Spiez, Romanschorn, 7 min. walk to ship, ship to Frederichshafen ship terminal, 5 min. walk to Hafen station, 2 min. train to Frederichshafen station, Ulm, then arr. Salzburg 1454 after a 8 hour 53 minute trip OR
dep. Interlaken West 0731 transfer trains in Spiez, Bern, Zurich arr. Salzburg 1529 after a 8 hour 0 minute trip

Based on the above, it seems more likely that teams flew to Salzburg on Nov. 4. In order to do that the optimal route is to take a train from Interlaken to Bern(somtimes changing first in Spiez) and then change for Bern to Zurich. The trains that fit are:

First train is dep. Interlaken West 522 transfer at Bern, arr. Zurich HB 0728, transfer there to Zurich Airport dep. HB 0746 arr. Airport 0747,  a difficult 23 minute connection to make the first flight below from Zurich airport
Next is dep. Interlaken West 1031 transfer at Bern, arr. Zurich HB 1228 dep.HB 1237 arr. Airport 1246 .
Last is dep. Interlaken West 1729 transfer at Spiez and Bern, arr. Zurich HB 1928, dep. HB 1937 arr. Airport 1946.

At Zurich there are  several nonstop flights to Salzburg, each with a connection from one of the train trips above:

C91202/LX4290  0810 0915  ZRH SGZ
C91204/Lx4292  1335 1440  ZRH SGZ
C91208/LX4294  2040 2145  ZRH SGZ

Nov. 4 tasks in Salzburg
Nov. 5 leg 4 depart Salzburg for Bucharest, with several late-night flight options:
through Munich drive back form Salzburg early evening, then LH3424 2130 0025 MUC OTP
through Frankfurt OS269 1830 1950 SGZ FRA connecting to LH3416 2030 0005 FRA OTP
Nov. 6 arrival in Bucharest after midnight; transfer to train to get to Brasov
morning train departures: Bucharest Nord 2358 arr. Brasov 0246  or  dep. 0630 0922  or  dep. 0730 1019  or  dep. 0616 1051(note: nobody would want this) or  0830 1124  or  0942 1254  or  1130 1404
Nov. 7 tasks in Brasov
Nov. 8 leg 5 leave Transylvania for unknown location #1(could be Siberia)
Nov. 10 leg 6 unknown location #2(could be Siberia)
Nov. 12 leg 7 unknown location #3
Nov. 14 leg 8 leave unknown location #3 to arrive Bangkok the next morning
Nov. 15 fly Bangkok to Phuket apparently on TG203 0740 0850, then tasks in Phuket area
Nov. 16 leg 9 fly from Phuket to ?
Nov. 18 leg 10 fly from ? to Guilin
Nov. 20 leg 11 Guilin to Beijing flight choices:
CZ3281 0900 1125
CA6312 1145 1435
CZ3287 1710 1950
CA1226 2105 0015

then tasks in Beijing and start pitstop

Nov. 22 leg 12 return from Beijing to U.S. for Finish Line in Hawaii via Tokyo
PEK NRT on Air China has several choices:
CA6651/NH956 0845 1305
CA925               0930 1350
CA167               1350 1750

Continuing on from Tokyo-Narita to Honolulu (NRT to HNL), there are 9 choices with departures between 645pm and 10pm. With the 6 hours 45 minute flying team and 5 hour time difference, these flights arrive HNL 0630 to 0950. The most logical choice to me would be UA880 NRT HNL 1925 0710+1. All these are same day due to crossing the International Date Line.

Finish Line on which Hawaiian island not known yet although I guess Oahu now for convenience

Note: this is a 23 day race.

Kiwi Jay.

Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. I don't think it's obvious either way but I chose to present it as 12 legs because that makes the most sense given the timing between Romania and Phuket(which I believe was referenced earlier).

Jet indicates we were right about the Los Amatos Airport. But could always be wrong still! And Central Siberia also indicates another Leg we can put onto our Leg list.

I thought puddin pointed out it was 11 legs!

We were in the Guangzhou China airport November 17th around 11pm and saw a team of two caucasian men wearing backpacks running through the airport with a cameraman and producer in tow. They were in the baggage claim area and were in a hurry to find something and stopped at hte information desk to ask directions. The cameraman was working to capture every move. The men were both short and appeared to be related. One had a fanny pack that was visible with red/yellow/back horizontal stripes on it. We went up to them and said "Are you with the Amazing Race?". They said "No", but we are waiting for cast pictures to see if they were telling the truth or not.

Hi, gang!

I've been following your work for TAR 14 (as I have for other seasons  )
and I've noticed the discussion on the timing of the middle legs.  I think the mention of the Race encountering a blizzard in central Siberia may offer a clue.

As far as I can recall, there has only been one confirmed weather delay in the history of TAR -- the sandstorm which delayed the Race in Tunisia for 24 hours in TAR 1. I can't imagine that the Race expected a blizzard just at the time the Racers got there, so I think a weather delay took place.

Travel is impossible in a blizzard, and you do not want to be stuck in open areas while one is taking place (heavy and blowing snow, along with high winds.) I'm not sure which cities would be considered "central Siberia," but knowing that we're looking for one or more cities in that area during that range of dates in mid- to late-November where such conditions were reported is something I suspect can be located at Weather Undergrond.

Just thought I would throw that in there and see if y'all can make anything of it.

You know, about that first episode opening with a death defying challenge?

We all know that the episode will open with team intros and a flight. If they are leaving from the military base, a parachute jump could be possible...

But if this is really BVM speak for the first leg in Switzerland, then I think, thanks to cba, that we already may have our challenge:

venzin77 RE: Is the Amazing Race in Locarno, Ticino?
Today, 3:52 PM EST

Yes the amazing race is in Switzerland y help one couple, y make police man job.

Mornig in Locarno, train Station, y help the couple Dustin & Kandice to go in Verzasca Valley. You see the the show and you see my ..... :)

Wiki/Wetpaint

People, when I joined last week pointing out it's been a while since they've been to Switzerland I was just joking!

This post above caught my eye - I've been to Verzasca valley myself on an excursion during my time as geology student at the Swiss federal institute of technology in Zurich.

There's Lago di Vogrono, a reservoir lake and the dam bordering its end, Dam Verzasca was featured in a James Bond Movie ("Goldeneye"). 007 does a bungy-jump from that dam, which is a very popular thing to do among tourists! There's not really anything else thrilling going on in that valley (except for geology of course  ;) ) so I'll pick up that spoiler/speculation and, if correct, guess we'll see some bungee jumping as a task or a maybe even a roadblock?

Having two groups of teams separated (like what happened in TAR1 where Rob and Brennan and Frank and Margarita were 24 hours ahead of Bill and Joe and Drew and Kevin) is not impossible, but extremely unlikely unless only some of the teams got stuck in the blizzard. I think TPTB would try to bunch up the teams if they got too far apart, like the did in TAR All Stars when Mirna and Sharla got the large lead.

I believe you can take a hydrofoil from Guanzhou to Guilin, but it is most likely scheduled for during the day, not in the middle of the night, because they are mainly for tourists. As a result, I haven't found any schedules.

It is possible to fly Guangzhou to Guilin at that late hour. China Southern CZ3234 flies 2305 2355.

Other nonstop flights are all in the afternoon or evening, nothing is in the morning.

I found a hydrofoil Guangzhou to Hong Kong w/ no trouble, but nothing to Guilin.

Wikitravel says
Quote
By boat
You can get to Guilin by cargo boat from Guangzhou via Wuzhou, but there are no passenger boats to Guilin anymore, except the boats to and from Yangshuo. You can take a cargo boat if you want to at almost no cost from Wuzhou to Yangshuo.

if they went to Central Siberia in Russia and there will be 2 legs there for this season, then that will make Survivor put to shame and I hope this will happen! :yess:

Anyway, here's my revised legs that contain for TAR 14, in my theory:

Starting leg: Los Alamitos Airfield, California (just near to Los Angeles, again)

leg 1 & 2: Switzerland
leg 3: Salzburg, Austria
leg 4: Romania
leg 5 & 6: Central Siberia, Russia
leg 7: Nepal or India (again?!?!) or Bangladesh
leg 8: Phuket, Thailand
leg 9: Guilin, China [2nd non-elimination leg]
leg 10: Beijing, China
leg 11 (final leg): final city will be either in Hawaii or East coast part of USA

And since I theorized that there will be 2 legs in Central Siberia, surely the only way to get there is via the Trans-Siberian Railway after landing in Moscow, Russia because the roads in Russia, especially in the Siberian region are very bad and getting there will take weeks, not a few days to get to some of the towns and cities on that region unlike in getting to a train or to the airport and that's what I'd saw in a TV series called Long Way Round when Ewan McGregor, Charley Boorman and the rest of the crew went to that area and they had difficulty to drive in a Siberian roads.
