The loonies get to run the mad house tonight :yess:

Puddin for some reason felt she should have a life this weekend, so she abandoned us in our hour of need.  Hopefully she ais having a great time at the 2nd happiest place on Earth. :waves:

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Nine teams left Fortaleza, for LaPaz, Brazil. Christy leveled an accusation at Starr about a bra, which carried over to LaPaz. At the Detour, Christy took a tumble and Nick/Starr made an offer to Aja/Ty about the U-Turn. At the Roadblock, Aja spilled the beans. Ken/Tina finished the leg in 1st, and Mark/Bill were eliminated.

Eight teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Phil: This is LaPaz, Bolivia, 13,000 feet above sea level, the world's highest capital. Third pitstop in a Race around the world.

Kelly/Christy confronted Nick/Starr about telling Aaja/Ty to use the U-Turn (which they didnt).

Ken/Tina, CLUE, 12:33 am. Fly to New Zealand. (!excited!)
Phil: Fly to Auckland. Drive to Gulf Harbor, untie the gordian knot for the next clue.

Toni/Dallas, 12:59 am.
Ken/Tina conf: We know the airport's closed but they have the internet.

Terence/Sarah, 1:04. Aja/Ty, 1:06. Marisa/Brooke in there, too. Nick/Starr, Andrew/Dan, teams leaving moments apart.

Aja conf: It's 'exhausting' to be with Ty every single minute. It's a fine line between (being together, and together too much)
Nick/Starr are "forming an adult relationship."
Andrew/Dan pushing a little b/c Dan is doing too much "This isn't the Dan show."

In last, Kelly/Christy finally get their clue and leave the pitstop.
But of course the closed airport may equalize them all.

Teams arrive at the airport to find other teams present.
Ugh.
Someone borrows a laptop.
Andrew/Dan "bond" with Marissa/Brooke, thinking that they are a weak team.
Kelly/Christy feel fortunate to not have to do their own research, having arrived last at the airport.
Ty is still online, trying to get a faster flight.
Aja: We'll wait in line.
Ty conf: Attitudes kick in. Pressure. Mood changes.   
Ty to Aja: Okay, leader. I'll just call you Fidel Castro. Are we done now?
Aja: Am I running a dictatorship?
They carry the argument over to the seats as they wait for the airport to open.
Aja punches Ty in his ribs, then they hug.

Phil: Everyone has the same flight to Auckland.
EQUALIZER!

On the ground in Auckland, it's night.
Teams scramble for the marked cars they must drive.
Nice ... niiiiicccceee cars.  
Kelly/Christy leapfrogged some teams betwixt the airport and the cars.
Ken isn't too happy with losing his "30 minute lead" but still close to the top of the pack
Terence/Sarah lead. Andrew/Dan are near the top of the pack as well.
Aja/Ty notice Ty's driving on the WRONG side of the road.  

It's still night, as teams look for signs in the dark.
Two teams pass Terence/Sarah at a turnoff.
Ty blows a tire. It's down to the R I M ...
Ty:Don't do this! I've never had a flat in my life!
Passing ... Other team member: Aja didn't look happy.
Aja gets out and tries to flag down some help.

This FF, go directly to the tallest structure in the hemisphre, the sky tower. Climb to the top and "pick up a friend."

Ken/Tina can see the tower from where they're driving into Auckland.
So can Andrew/Dan.
Both teams park cars in a garage and try to get up to the top.
Dude: I need both of you guys to get into jumpsuits.   
Both Ken and Tina don jumpsuits and head up in an elevator.

Aja/Ty think they're geting the gordian knot in last, but not; Marissa/Brooke are last.


Terence/Sarah/Other teams: ROADBLOCK: Take an image of a tattoo seen on Maori warriors, and match the tattoo to the exact same one on a warrior in the crowd. If you guess wrong, the warrior makes you start again. If correct, you get the next CLUE.

Marisa/Brooke undo their knot and take their mountain clue.
Ken/Tina realize they're right at the top.
There's the GNOME! Ken has to grab the GNOME (the "friend") and descend with it.
Andrew/Dan have gone back to the other clue, and are now doing Maori tattoos.
Christy gets the right tatt, and they leave toward the front of the pack.
Aja/Ty ask directions to the mountain where they'll have to do the tattoo thingy.
Andrew/Dan finish tatt challenge and head for the hotel.
Toni/Dallas arrive at the City Life Hotel. They look for gnomes.
FAST FORWARD: Ken/Tina will take a helicopter ride to the pitstop!
Terence/Sarah get up in the elevator, get off in apparently a wrong place.
CLUE, Terence/Sarah and Toni/Dallas: Find Kiwi 360, a local landmark.
Andrew/Dan in 4th now, looking for a gnome.
Kelly/Christy right behind, in 5th.
Nick/Starr in 6th leave the tattoo challenge.
Aja/Ty in 7th arrive at the tattoo challenge. Marisa/Brooke drive up to the mountain.

Aja/Ty arrive at the hotel roof and search with binoculars. Aja finds one.

Oh, there really are rocks at the bottom of the kiwis.  

Phil's dad welcomes Terence/Sarah, the first team to arrive having run the entire course.
Phil: Terence/Sarah, you're team #2.


Andrew/Dan yell about the rocks at the bottom of the kiwi cart.
They ponder changing ... then change detours.
Kelly/Christy think the kiwis are "tension relieving balls under our feet."

Toni/Dallas start to build their sailing cart. It builds pretty fast.
Man: Must complete 3 legs.
Toni completes one.
Dallas does his second.
Andrew/Dan open their cart kit and realize that's not an easy choice for them, either.

Kelly/Christy finish their juice.
Jack LaLanne isn't there to congratulate them.

In 7th, Aja/Ty want to crush kiwis.
Fumbling with the cart parts ... Dan: Give me sports trivia and I'll beat everyone.  
Aja yells at Ty.
Ty: Don't raise your voice to me, just get in there and start squishing!


Phil: Kelly/Christy, you are team #3.


Dan is all thumbs.
Andrew: Did somebody just crash?
Starr: I think I just broke my arm!

Kelly & Christy came in third!  That's what you get for sticking with a Detour choice!

Personally, I would've gone for A Matter of Skill right away.  I don't think I could've handled stomping on kiwi fruit -- or drinking the kiwi juice!  Besides, the blokarts look cool!  However, I doubt they're so cool to Starr!

The blondes take a drink.
Aja/Ty finish.

Boy, Aja & Ty probably should have gone for A Matter of Skill in the beginning!  Luckily, Marissa & Brooke were so far behind that it didn't matter, but still they shouldn't have switched!  And I'll bet this is part of why they get eliminated in the next leg (assuming it's an elimination leg of course).

As for Kelly & Christy, the bit at the airport in the previews might be just a bit of much ado about nothing.  But it isn't helping their image with viewers any.  Oh, and Mswood -- that might be Dallas who's talking, not Nick!

I don't know how far Marissa and Brooke were behind Aja/Ty when they arrived at the kiwi stomping. However, it looked to me that they were quickly csatching up on Aja/Ty. Both teams ended way after dark, so I am guessing that the final gap was in the 15 minute range, with Aja/Ty reaching the pitstop at 645pm and Marissa/Brooke about 7pm.

I counted Maoris on Mt. Eden off a PAUSEd screen. The rows starting at the front were 9, then 8, then 8, then 9, finally 10 for a total of 44 of them.

I think it is interesting to guess on when Ken/Tina reached the pitstop. This Sky Tower information contradicts what someone else reported:

Open Sun to Thur 8:30am-10:30pm, and Fri, Sat 8:30am-11:30pm

I am going to guess that with the #1 and starting up at opening time Ken/Tina would need about a half hour to go up. It would take a similar amount of time to descend. Then they have to be taken to the helicopter pad, which I have not been able to locate at Sky Tower. It must be somewhere nearby. Anyway they would take off around 945am. The lfight should be about 45 minutes on a jet helicopter, so that puts them at Sumemrhill Farm around 1030am.

actually, they are pretty incompetent.  so far they do seem to have more trouble reading the clues than any one else.  but this time they did well to stay with the crushing in spite of the "spa" experience.

i'm getting more impressed with toni & dallas all the time, especially toni. she did really well at altitude last time, and this time she was pretty smooth on the blokart - and was pretty cool with the warriors!  i think they're my fav team now - beat out nick & starr, who haven't shown up much in the last couple episodes.
ken & tina are doing fine while they're winning, but let's see when they aren't anymore.. it feels like a ticking bomb is waiting to go off.

I can't judge their incompetence; they performed well on this leg, perticularly at the kiwi stomping task. However, I can judge nasty and they are totally nasty. I hope we don't have to put up with them much longer (although I know they will make it at least one more leg and with a TBC or NEL in Delhi two more legs). They are in thie competition to make all the other teams look better by the contrast to Kelly/Christy.

Also, I strongly challenge your statement about Mirna. She is the worst bitch ever on the Amazing Race although Charla is both competent and decent! Have you noticed that World Race Productions has not cast any lawyers after Mirna in AR5? There is a reason.

My 2 favorite women are Toni and Sarah. That is one tough mom, and I continue to love Sarah - agree with you peach that she looked really pretty in this episode :)

Marissa & Brooke got really lost on the way to the Gordian knot task, and then had a hard time finding it!  Aja & Ty not only had the flat tire, they also had a really hard time doing the Matter of Time detour and switched to the Matter of Skill one.  That wasted enough time that they came in about 10 minutes or so ahead of Marissa & Brooke (according to some interviews I've read).  I think part of the problem is that there was a lever and the teams that switched didn't find it.  Anyway, I wouldn't have gone for A Matter of Time -- I'd have chosen A Matter of Skill.
