Hey, maybe not so bad ratings! Jack Bauer vs. Kanye West and Peyton Manning By Roger Catlin on November 24, 2008 2:54 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) Overnight ratings for "24: Redemption," the two-hour standalone movie that aired Sunday on Fox, indicate that 12.04 million viewers watched Jack Bauer's latest adventure.
It drew its audience on a competitive night, where the "American Music Awards" on ABC (where Kanye West won a couple of awards) averaged 12.2 million viewers.
"Sunday Night Football" on NBC did equally as well, with about 12.29 million viewers. And CBS was right in there, too, with "The Amazing Race" at 10.13 million viewers, "Cold Case" at 12.07 million and "The Unit" with 9.99 million.

The football bounce kept CBS on top at 8 p.m. as "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race" combined for a 9.4/14. NBC moved up to second (and led among adults 18-49) with "Sunday Night Football," 7.5/11. " Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 6.7/11, snagged third for ABC. " The Simpsons," 4.4/7, and "King of the Hill," 3.6/5, were fourth for FOX. The CW aired the movie "Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course." http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-ratings113008,0,615044.story

TV Ratings: '60 Minutes' makes a splash for CBS Dec 1, 2008, 04:15 PM | by Annie Barrett Categories: TV Biz, TV Ratings On last night's 60 Minutes, the promise of a shirtless Anderson Cooper racing against Olympic stud Michael Phelps was enough to pull in a solid 15.6 million viewers -- over a million more than the show's last new airing -- helping CBS win Sunday in total viewership. (Some credit also goes to NFL spillover in the 7 p.m.-8 p.m. hour.) The network's other amazing race, namely The Amazing Race, attracted 11.6 million viewers, a 15 percent gain over last week's episode. Thus, The Amazing Race held its own against NBC's Sunday Night Football (which averaged 13.6 million viewers) and ABC's 9 p.m.-10 p.m. winner, Desperate Housewives (15.6 million). And ABC's Brothers & Sisters (10.2 million viewers) triumphed opposite CBS' underperforming Cold Case (10.7 million), which normally brings in over 12 million viewers. Over at Fox, all three new half-hour cartoons (The Simpsons, King of the Hill, American Dad!) suffered dips in viewership, while a rerun of Family Guy managed to pull in 80 percent of the audience from its last new airing. http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/12/60-minutes-phel.html

Over here in Australia The Amazing Race has hit the top 20 for the first time ever, coming in at number 20 for Did You Push My Sports Bra Off The Ledge?
No other American reality show has ever gone top 20 in Australia.
In fact, the only reality shows aside from TAR to get top 20 status is BB Oz (Which has been canned), Aus Idol (Which is on the slide) and Dancing with the stars Oz (Which is still going very strong.)

Thats awesome news Coutzy! This guy has been keeping rating scores since TAR6 With the help of Football overrun, TAR got another good ratings last night. Just my obsrevation: when this happened, Extreme Makeover ratings got hurt the most. It seems that more viewers will choose EM between TAR and EM, but they like 60 Minutes when it is 60 Minutes vs. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Also, on the rare face-off in 9 to 9:30 half hour time slot, TAR had 7.3/11 ratings while Desperate Housewives had 9.8/15. What do guys think if CBS moved TAR to 9 to 10 time slot? ========================================== 8PM-9PM Time Slot Ratings: 9.4/14 CBS (60 Minutes & TAR) 7.5/11 NBC Sunday Night Football 6.7/11 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition 4.0/6 Fox Cartoons ========================================== TAR 13.1 ratings: Week 1: 6,2/10 Week 2: 6.7/10 (8:31 to 9:31) (8.4/13--CBS 8 to 9) (6.7/10--CBS 9 to 10) Week 3: 5.6/9 Week 4: 6.4/10 (8:45 to 9:45) (8.3/10--CBS 8 to 9) (6.7/10--CBS 9 to 10) Week 5: 5.8/9 Week 6: 6.0/9 Week 7: 7.1/11 (8:25 to 9:25) (8.8/13--CBS 8 to 9) (7.5/11--CBS 9 to 10) Week 8: 7.4/11 (8:30 to 9:30) Week 9: 6.2/10 Week 10: 7.2/11 (8:41 to 9:41) (9.3/14--CBS 8 to 9) (7.1/10--CBS 9 to 10) TAR 12 ratings: Week 1: 8.3/13 (8:27 to 9:27) (8.1/12--CBS 8:30 to 9) (8.5/13--CBS 9 to 9:30) Week 2: 6.8/10 Week 3: 7.6/12 Week 4: 7.6/11 Week 5: 6.8/10 Week 6: 7.4/11 (8:25 to 9:25) (8.3/12--CBS 8 to 9) Week 7: 5.3/9 (8:22 to 9:22) (Holiday) Week 8: 5.9/9 (8:40 to 9:40) Week 9: 7.2/11 (8:42 to 9:42) Week 10: 6.8/10 Week 11: 5.8/9 (Finale) TAR 11 ratings: Week 1: 6.7/10 (8:28 to 9:28) (7.0/11--CBS 8 to 9) (7.2/11--CBS 9 to 10) Week 2: 4.9/7 Week 3: 6.3/10 Week 4: 5.9/10 Week 5: 7.8/12 (8:45 to 9:45) (8.9/14--CBS 8 to 9) (8.0/12--CBS 9 to 10) Week 6: 6.8/11 (8:38 to 9:38) (7.1/12--CBS 8 to 9) (7.2/11--CBS 9 to 10) Week 7: 5.1/8 and 5.5/8 Week 8: 5.4/9 Week 9: 5.6/9 Week10: 5.4/9 Week11: 5.8/10 Week12: 6.2/10 TAR 10 ratings: Week 1: 6.4/10 (first half hour) and 6.3/9 Week 2: 6.6/10 Week 3: 7.8/12 (8:34 to 9:34) (8.5/13--CBS 8 to 9) Week 4: 6.4/10 Week 5: 7.4/11 (8:22 to 9:22) (8.1/12--CBS 8 to 9) (8.2/12--CBS 9 to 10) Week 6: 6.8/10 Week 7: 8.3/13 (8:20 to 9:20) (8.2/13--CBS 8 to 9) (8.8/13--CBS 9 to 10) Week 8: 7.7/11 (8:31 to 9:31) (8.5/12--CBS 8 to 9) (8.3/12--CBS 9 to 10) Week 9: 6.8/10 Week10: 7.9/12 (8:22 to 9:22) (8.9/13--CBS 8 to 9) (8.6/13--CBS 9 to 10) Week11: 6.5/10 Week12: 6.6/10 Week13: 8.0/12 (8:25 to 9:25) (8.4/13--CBS 8 to 9) (8.3/12--CBS 9 to 10) TAR 9 ratings: Week 1: 6.9/10 and 6.3/10 Week 2: 6.1/10 Week 3: 6.1/10 Week 4: 6.0/10 Week 5: 5.6/9 Week 6: 5.0/8 (new time slot) Week 7: 5.0/9 Week 8: 5.6/10 Week 9: 5.3/9 Week 10: 5.0/8 Week 11: 5.5/9 Week 12: 5.3/9 and 5.5/8 (Two hour finale) TAR 8 ratings: Week 1: 7.0/10 and 6.5/10 Week 2: 7.2/11 Week 3: 7.1/10 Week 4: 7.1/11 Week 5: 6.7/10 Week 6: 6.8/10 Week 7: 6.5/10 and 6.5/11 Week 8: 6.3/10 Week 9: No program. Final numbers are out for last week's episode.
We got 11.83 million viewers (on CBS on 60 minutes beat us) we got a 3.5 in adults 18-49 (only 60 minutes beat us).
For the season to date we have averaged 10.529 million viewers.
The average rating for the previous 12 seasons is 10.241. So we are marginally ahead of the average.
This is the viewer average for each season with it going most viewers to fewest viewers.
AR 7 12.559 AR 6 11.337 AR 12 11.193 AR 10 11.148 AR 5 10.726 AR 8 10.67 AR 13 10.529 AR 2 10.212 AR 11 9.713 AR 1 9.118 AR 3 9.063 AR 9 8.857 AR 4 8.293

The ratings are going up as the season progresses which is par for the course and with a weak matchup for NBC's Sunday Night Football, the ratings for the finale should be decent.

The Sunday Night game this weekend isn't that weak, with Washington and Baltimore. I suspect it will get pretty good ratings on the east coast.

I have to differ with you there, redwings. The BW area will be a ratings smash, but I don't think New York and Boston will watch with much interest.

The CW, as usual, was way off the pace at 1.0/1. FOX led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.6 rating. ABC took second at 3.7, just ahead of NBC, 3.6. CBS averaged 2.8 and The CW 0.5. FOX's late-afternoon NFL coverage and "The OT" scored an 11.5/18 at 7 p.m., easily topping "60 Minutes," 8.9/14, on CBS. ABC got a 3.5/6 from the special "Ty Pennington: Behind the Scenes," which was good enough to beat the 3.0/5 for "Football Night in America" on NBC. The CW aired a "Jericho" rerun. "Sunday Night Football," 7.0/11, moved NBC into the lead at 8 p.m. The season finale of "The Amazing Race" drew a 6.3/10 for CBS, edging the 6.2/10 for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on ABC. Well final numbers came out on Tuesday for AR's season finale.
And we fell just a tiny bit.
10.504 million viewers 3.1 in adults 18-49 (highest for CBS) 4.00 in adults 25-54 (also highest for CBS, which kill sme that we beat 60 minues in this demo)
We ended the season with an average
10.526 million viewers 3.155 in adults 18-49 4.02 in adults 25-54
I will of course update with the DVR results (we still have several weeks of that) and some comparisons to previous seasons.

DVR usage currently is good for the network is gauging an audiences interest ina show. But DVR currently don't give the network much of any actual revenue, since reports show that nearly 100% of viewers skip the commercials.
At least legal online viewing (through either things like itunes where you buy an episode or a season of a show, or through free ad based viewings on a networks site) do give the network revenue. Currently it isn't a lot, but it still does generate revenue.
DVR results also help networks figure how much they are hurt by their current competition.
Eventually the networks will figure out a way to generate revenue from dvr use (even if its only through product placement) hello roving gnome. And those results do make the show look good.

Perhaps CBS could make some money by putting past seasons on iTunes, but reality usually doesn't do well in reruns or reselling.

I wish they would I would be so there. But they don't feel its worth it. Which it cost so little to make episodes available on itunes, and while you don't make a huge profit (total dollars), you make a decent percetage profit.
