I just know the the majority of NZ farms battle to keep their gorse under control...it's a real pest, but looks pretty when it's in flower

I disagree. One of the best changes that has been made by World Race Productions/CBS has been the elimination of those scenes of mingling, eating, resting and doing short interviews usually devoid of useful content. That time has gone into showing more race footage, which is a very positive step.
