 Week 11 Recap~

Troy came through the doors of the suite having survived his latest encounter in the boardroom, where Heidi was fired. Kwame gave his buddy Troy a big hug, but the others offered more subdued congratulations. The atmosphere was becoming more cautious since the group was now down to the final six. The next morning, everyone met with Donald and they evened up the teams. Protégé was down to just two members, so they got to choose someone from Versacorp. Troy announced that they would take Bill. Donald was glad to see that they didn't pick Amy again. Bill, however, looked shocked. In an interview, Bill diplomatically said that he and Troy didn't have "compatible" styles. Then, with a little less diplomacy, he said, "Frankly, I'm not exactly fond of the way he does business." Next, the teams learned that their new task would take them to Atlantic City. There they would execute a promotional plan to register gamblers at the Trump Taj Mahal, the number one hotel in Atlantic City. The team whose registered gamblers spent the most money in the casino would win. For this task, Mark Brown, who runs Trump's hotels in Atlantic City, and the ever-present Carolyn would observe.

Amy was Project Manager for Versacorp and that made Katrina happy - not because she particularly liked Amy's leadership style, but because Katrina wanted to see if Amy could prove that she deserved all of the accolades she'd gotten. As Project Manager for Protégé, Kwame got his troops off to an early start. They conferenced, planned and made calls on the bus ride to Atlantic City. Bill realized that the task would be won or lost not by the number of gamblers they registered, but by the quality of those gamblers. They had to get the high rollers. The other team slept on the bus. Troy was baffled and said that the others were acting like, "…this was a tour bus." He went on to say, "This is a job interview."

Once they got to the Trump Taj Mahal, Versacorp had a brainstorming meeting of their own. History repeated itself as Katrina's ideas were met with absolute silence. Amy settled on her idea of raffling off a $300 car rental to all gamblers who registered with them. They would display a car in the casino to draw people over. In an interview, Katrina said that she was tired of her suggestions being ignored and said that if they failed, Amy should be held responsible. Later, Amy and Katrina went to the car dealership to negotiate the car rental that they would raffle off. Amy sat uncomfortably as Katrina talked up the dealer. In an interview, Amy said that, "Katrina has a tendency to use sexuality as her prime negotiating tactic." When it got down to the final details, Amy jumped in. In an interview, Katrina complained that, "Amy really needs to be the star of every transaction." The car dealer liked the offer and Versacorp had themselves a deal.
Protégé thought big. Troy discovered that the casino had a huge gambling wheel in storage that the team could use. For their promotional idea, the team would let every gambler who registered with them spin the wheel, which included the prize of being entered into a drawing for $1,000. Protégé wanted to have a novel and exciting attraction to draw a crowd so they met with the executive producer of the Ferco Brothers Tiger and Illusion show, who just happened to be a 10-year-old wunderkind. The kid agreed to let Protégé use a one of their tigers and some dancers in a cross-promotion. After they had agreed, Troy continued with a little sweet-talk about how this arrangement would be mutually beneficial, but the kid cut Troy off and said, "Let me give you some advice in life: Don't sell when it's already sold." And Troy stopped talking. Even though Protégé was feeling good about their plan, the day was not without friction. Troy and Kwame said that they both wanted to go see the Ferco Brothers' show so that they could pick out a tiger for their promotion. Bill was not happy. He knew that there was a lot of work to be done and that only one person needed to go see the show. Even Kwame, the Project Manager, admitted that only one person needed to go. Kwame just wanted to see the performance.

That evening, The Nick and Amy Flirtation Fest heated up again. Katrina, sick of being in the middle of it, offered the bedroom to Nick and Amy, who didn't take it. Amy said that she knew that Nick had a crush on her. Amy also admitted that she thought that Nick was handsome. She said that she wasn't sure where the relationship was going, but that, "maybe it was time to find out."

Versacorp hired several models to help them get gamblers to register with their team. On the Protégé team, Bill implemented his idea of going after the big fish. He had secured exclusive rights to escort the VIP gamblers from their special hotel check-in line right to Protégé's promotional area. Bill hoped his teammates would appreciate his forethought. It turned out that the other team certainly appreciated Bill's thinking. Amy saw Bill at the hotel VIP check-in line and sent over one of the models to pull VIPs over to Versacorp's registration area. Bill was upset. He told the model that she couldn't be within 50 feet of the VIP area. Later, Bill said, "We're preparing for a full-on war today." Well, the arms race continued when Amy got an even louder public address system than Protégé had. Carolyn and Mark didn't think Amy was helping herself. They thought she was too loud and was only pulling players, who were already spending money, off of their slot machines. The final weapon in the battle was unveiled when Protégé brought out the white tiger. The team got a huge crowd.
ump arrived in grand style at the Taj Mahal and visited each team. Afterwards, the teams had their big drawings. Protégé had an eager group of people all waiting to see if they had won the $1,000 prize. Kwame drew the winner and an excited older woman came up to claim her cash. Versacorp's drawing was a bit of a letdown by contrast. The prize was only $300 and the winner wasn't even present. When the promotions ended, Donald met the two teams in the casino. Carolyn announced the numbers for Versacorp. They had registered 1,337 players, who had gambled $105,352. The team looked satisfied. Mark said that Protégé had registered far fewer players - only 776 - but since they had gone after the VIPs they'd actually taken in even more money, $123,159. The men of Protégé were rewarded with the finest penthouse in the hotel and $1,000 each to gamble. Versacorp had won themselves a trip to the boardroom.

Back home at Trump Tower, Amy was nervous. She'd never been to the boardroom for a firing before. Nick thought this would be a disadvantage for her. Katrina thought that she'd face the firing along with Amy because of Amy and Nick's relationship. After all three members of Versacorp entered the boardroom, Amy admitted that Bill had a great idea by going after the VIPs and securing exclusive rights to do so. Amy even went so far as to say, "I think that Bill is my toughest competition." When Nick heard that, his face dropped. Carolyn cut to the chase and said that the team's idea of giving away a $300 car rental was not a good draw. Donald said it was a "lousy incentive." Then, Amy chose Katrina to face the firing with her. Alone in the boardroom with his advisors, Donald asked each to weigh in. Mark thought that no one on Versacorp did well, but he thought that Katrina seemed especially unfocused. Carolyn agreed and added that Amy made some terrible blunders this time. Amy and Katrina came back in. Katrina said that she wasn't surprised that she was picked to face the firing with Amy. She figured it would happen because of Amy and Nick's personal relationship. Donald was surprised at Amy. But Amy said that she made the decision to bring Katrina back in with her for professional reasons only. Amy said that the bottom line is that she had led teams to victories four times. Donald said that while Amy and Katrina had both performed poorly on this task, Amy had a track record too impressive to ignore. So, Donald fired Katrina.

Katrina was the right one to send home.  I did find that she tried using her sex appeal to negotiate with that car rental guy -- which is a no no.  I am sure the girls were warned about that early on.  The guys did a great job with getting the spinning wheel and the tiger, etc.  They made it exciting.  I couldn't believe what that ten year old kid said.  He talked like he was 50.  After seeing Bill in action, I cannot really exclude him from getting the big prize either.  He was smart to realize it wasn't the volume of gamblers but the quality.  He was so smart to get the exclusive rights to the VIP gamblers.  The serious high rolling gamblers.  Has Bill ever lead a project?  He is really a quiet under the radar player too.  I was very surprised at Amy's role as Project Manager this time.  This is the first time she did a crappy job.  Was the pressure too much for her??  Was she secretly pissed off that Troy did call her over to their team?? And that affected her thinking?  Or was thinking about snuggling up to Nick distracting her brain?  Nosey people like me want to know this kind of stuff. :o
