Okay, you have decided you want to be an Updater but aren't quite sure about the picture posting or haven't gotten really comfortable with your RealPlayer yet? This is the place to start! And trust me--I am the untechiest person ever so if I can do this--anyone can!
Basically, this is a summary of information found in the
Support thread. Many answers to the most common questions can be found there. You can also play and test out your new skills in the
Test Zone and you won't bother a soul!
The first thing is to get comfortable with saving a pic to your computer and uploading or attaching it.
To post still pictures, photos, etc by using the attachment method--the basics are
HERE in the
Support thread.
To post still pictures, photos, etc by using the "hosting" method, start
HERE. My favorite nice easy to use place to upload pictures is
http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/ Please do review the information on "Hotlinking"
Here and
Here as this is a big no-no.
Once you are comfortable with the pictures, you may want to try capturing videos as well.
If you have invested in the Live Feeds (and if you purchase them through
the RFF link, you help to support the Forum), you have purchased RealPlayer with SuperPass. This entitles you to
also buy the
BB Re--Loader which is the best thing ever, IMO! This season it will be available on 2/11 and can be downloaded then for a one-time payment of $7.49. It is worth a million. It makes all of the things you want to do as an Updater so easy. You can have all 4 screens open at once so you don't need to switch back and forth. There is one button for screencaps and one button that lets you record a quick video--it is super easy. This season it will also let you record all night so you can catch up on what you missed while you were sleeping!

Another option is to use
screencapture 32. Here is the info on that from a previous season:

Hi Everyone!!
Puddin asked me to post the method I use to screen cap. Apparently it's a little different from what most are doing.
This method is super easy, and the software is free -- i highly recommend it.
Basically Here's The Deal:
1. You need to download Screen Print 32. it can be found at
http://www.provtech.co.uk/download/default.asp It is free for personal use. I was recommended to download it by my dad, who has me using it for something else, i don't know much about the company to be honest, but I've had the program almost a year and have not had one problem in terms of compatibility (it has no spyware, adware or malware)
2. Once you download and install it it needs to be configured. All you need to do is open the program, you will see 5 tabs at the top.
3. On the "General" tab check "Capture Active Window", also pick the capture key (I use Prt-Scr, but there are several options) under miscellaneous "Share User Settings", "Load at Startup", and "Show in SysTray" should also be checked.
4. Under the "Print Options" tab remove the check from "Enable Printing" (Or it will print every time)
5. Under the "save Options" tab check the box that says "Save Captured Area To Disk", under filename I have selected "SP32-[counter] (it numbers each cap starting at 1, makes it easy for me to keep track of) but there are several naming options, whichever you prefer can be picked. Under "File Format" I have chosen JPG, but again you can pick whatever is best for you. Then with the "Folder" box select "browse" and choose where you want to save the caps. I use my desktop, to save and then move the caps to another folder after I posted them. That makes it easy for me. Below this there is a button to reset the counter, I just leave mine alone so it keeps the counting correct.
6. Press "OK" at the bottom of the page and your ready to cap!!
So to work it: (this is using it the way I have configured it, if you used different settings, your process may differ)
I open the real payer and watch then when I'm ready to take a cap, I click on the real player to make sure its my active window, and press the prt-scrn button, it saves the cap to my desktop. Then I just log in here at RFF and post my cap using the "Additional Options" and "Attach" methods.
That's it!!! So easy and fast!!!
If you really want to be really professional.... once you saved the cap, before you post it you can open it in photoshop, or your preferred photo program and crop out the real player skin. I just post it with the skin to get the caps up fast. It's totally up to you.
--puddin posted some general
uploader and realone info here. BTW--unchecking everything but HTTP didn't work for me--it screwed up CBS Innertube..
--Info on Streaming feeds info and links can be found
HERE.
--If you want to embed your video into your post try this:
Copy the YouTube embed code
instead of the URL (or any embed code such as Photobucket)

and put that code between [html**]
HERE [/html**] (without the asterisk)
It will then look like this (without the asterisk in the html's) and you are good!
[html**]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="
http://www.youtube.com/v/Kpy7MdJSqb4"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="
http://www.youtube.com/v/Kpy7MdJSqb4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> [/html**]
Hope this gets you started--and remember no question is too simple! Hope it helps!
