GMAN, in AR11 Rob and Amber had tiny backpacks so they were following your advice from the beginning.  In Amazing Race Asia 1, Mardy and Marsio ditched their large backpacks and bought small ones about 8 legs into the race.

same to Guido too... I like their backpack...

Wow, I actually have a location spoiler!  I just received an IM from a co-worker asking me when the next TAR is going to be on.  The reason she was asking is her parents just got back from a cruise in Alaska.  On some tours they  were on they had some guides that mentioned they had recently helped with filming of TAR.   I asked her if she knew approximately when they helped but she didn't have that info.  She also wasn't sure exactly where in Alaska, she speculated,  but she told me she would ask her Mom again to pinpoint where in Alaska.   Hopefully I'll have more info as to the location soon.

Here are the quotes from my conversation with my co-worker:

"yup, at least part of it was in alaska.  2 of the people who did tours my parents went on this past week particpated in part of it up there.
one was a guide up a glacier or something like that and one drove a boat up a river that was use."

"i can't remember which city my parents were in at the time...maybe denali?  a bit further north then where we went on our cruise, i believe.
closer to anchorage."

I heard from reliable source they visited Bosnia maybe Sarajevo or Mostar.. most probably Mostar since its close to Dubrovnik but maybe both.. "We're going to a couple of places that I don't even know where they are on the map. I've had to go look them up." I think this might be it.. Prague, Dubrovnik, Mostar and Sarajevo for Europe this year.

I've been given the go ahead to post the additional information I received.

This is the info she was able to get from my co-workers Mom:

Quote
"girdwood was the city.  she couldn't remember the name of the glacier."

I asked her if Girdwood is where they did both tours she mentioned before:

Quote
"oh, and yes, girdwood is where they did the tours."

I asked her if her mom recalled the tour company names and she said:

Quote
"no, but she said the boat one was something about a 20 mile river."

I asked her if the tour companies they used were operated by the same company or different ones.  This is what she said:

Quote
"i think different but since she didn't remember the names, not sure.  she just was given a list to pick from when she won the trip."

So it sounds like the trip they won from Alaska Airlines had tour packages.

I looked up Girdwood online and came up with this:

http://www.girdwoodchamber.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?product=Activities&cart_id=1187714859.7590

Blue Ice Ride
http://www.akback.com/half-day%20activities%202.htm#Blue%20Ice%20Ride
This spectacular jet boat ride is unlike any in the world. Our experienced boat captain will take you up the remote 20 Mile River Valley to Carmen Lake and the magnificent 20 Mile Glacier. …….

The glacier hike could be from here:

http://www.akback.com/half-day%20activities%202.htm#Glacier_Trekker
or
http://www.theascendingpath.com/

And last but not least, she had this to say:

Quote
"oh, she also said she thinks it was one of the last locations according to their guide."

At first I took that to mean that alaska was on their way to the final destination.  But I asked her if she meant that Alaska is
Possibly the final destination.  She said:

Quote
"i think so, she said she only remembers him mentioning 3 boats (not sure if it was 3 boats besides his or including his)."

I never thought of Alaska as the final city but I guess it would be possible and definitely a first!  This isn't confirmed so take it with a grain of salt for now until someone can verify.  :)

-----------

This is the new information that I just received.

The trip my co-workers parent's were on was last week with their return date this past weekend (Aug -18-19th)  They did state that the river guide they had mentioned they had just filmed 2 weeks prior which would put TAR in Alaska during the weeke of July 30 through August 3rd, which fits with the August 3rd finale date.

Also, the trip her parents were on was a trip they won from Alaska Airlines.  The tours they chose were from that travel package.  I looked up  Vacation packages at Alaska Airlines and came up with this:

Girrwood is offered as part of a vacation package.  All tours are listed there.

http://alaska.org/alaska_airlines/escorted-alaska-land-tours.htm

http://alaska.org/girdwood/girdwood-day-tours.htm

Here are the tours offered in the Alaska Airlines vacation package that fit with my info above:

Jet Boat Twenty Mile River
http://alaska.org/glaciers/glacier-jet-alaska.jsp

http://www.glacierjetalaska.com/index.php

Hike Alyeska Glacier

http://alaska.org/girdwood/the-accending-path.jsp

I plan on asking more info this afternoon but I think this is a good start.

Girdwood is also the home to Alpine Air, which WRP used in TAR2 (see special thanks below). I think the TAR9 racers were also supposed to fly there (Drill it or Deliver it Detour), but bad weather cancelled out the flights.
I've got nothing against the Anchorage-Denali axis, but if the race is spending any time "North of 60" I wish they would visit places like the Yukon, NWT or Nunavut instead.

Awesome, I always love seeing my home state get visited.

But I will agree with Slowhatch that Yukon territories or Northwest Territories would be cool.  Never been to any part of the other.

Well folks I am not going to be able to find out any more info.  My co-worker's mom realized that her daughter was telling people about her info and she clammed up.  She said she wasn't supposed to tell anyone.  Too late!     At any rate, I have paved the way and no doubt you guys have dig the rest.  :)

CoolKel at TWOP has just referenced Ireland as a confirmed stop for AR12. I have asked for more information on what/when. We'll see what develops on this.

Ireland finally! Fantastic!!

ETA: did the reference come from WAMgirl? LAX, interesting.

Quote
We were at LAX this July going on our honeymoon, and we met a team from the upcoming season. The team consisted of a younger guy and his grandfather. They were headed to Ireland and were looking for guidebooks and people to exchange dollars for euros on a one to one ratio.

Thanks to Colby's excellent lead, I am pleased to be able to 100% confirm the Twenty Mile River leg, after speaking to someone who was actually at the boat launch site!

I can guarantee you 90% that they went to Sarajevo.. my friend just told me he saw some strangers runing around town couple of days ago with cameras following them.. I think Bosnia maybe in this one! They have found a pyramid in Visoko near Sarajevo it is the largest in the world, the may want to go there

BTW : Bosnia is very beautiful.. Take a look at this website http://www.bhtourism.ba/eng/
and website for the pyramids http://piramidasunca.ba/en/

Thanks for the info makdoric but if your friend saw them a few days ago then it wasn't us, TAR 12, we were done filming around Aug 2 or somewhere around that time frame.

makdoric01, ARA12 was in Dubrovnik around July 19. It could have been in Sarajevo in approximately the same time period. Was the sighting in Sarajevo over one month ago?

More from WAMgirl

Quote
To add some more details to my TAR spotting in July...We were in the international terminal in LAX on July 8, 2007, at 2 pm PST. I have no idea what airline they were flying or when, but I assume they had awhile, because they weren't flying out of one of the immediate gates around us, and they were wandering around other areas looking for guidebooks and people who would trade euros with them. They did spend a lot of time across the way with a college kid who had a laptop and they were looking things up on it. I was just out of earshot though, so couldn't overhear anything. That's all I have...sorry!
