60 minutes is talking about Simon Cowell...it's quite funny.
Never mind it's over.

Almost there to TAR.  Good thing Desperate Housewives is a repeat tonight.

Yeah, Rob you had plenty of time.  Plenty.

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Eight teams set out from Chile, and flew to Punta Arenas, the southernmost part of the country. After winning 3 legs in a row, Romber exuded confidence. But Rob didn't "get it" at the Detour, and Charla/Mirna passed them at the Roadblock. One of the most memorable finishes in Amazing Race history, and Rob and Amber's streak was finally over.

Seven teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Phil: This is Ushuaia, Argentina on Tierra Del Fuego. The southernmost city in the world, just before Antarctica. The fourth pitstop.

How will Romber's elimination affect the other Racers?
(team confessionals)

Oswald/Danny, 12:02 am, CLUE: Travel by taxi to Marshall Glacier.
Phil: They'll use the avalanche beacon to search for a clue in the ice, then once they have it, hike half-a mile.

E/D 12:06 am.

Teri/Ian, 1:04 am.

Joe/Bill, 1:55 am.
"A kinder, gentler Guido."

Dustin/Kandice, 1:58 am.

Uchenna/Joyce, 2:38 am.

Charla/Mirna, 2:41 am.

Teams arrive at the glacier.

OPEN 8:00 AM.

EQUALIZER.

Teams head back one by one in taxis to get some warm shut-eye. Some other teams stayed in the cold to keep good position in line.

MORNING.

Joe/Bill: We have thongs! They can give us wedgies!

Scenes of Eric/Danielle and Joe/Bill's previous confrontations on The Race, none of which we've seen heretofore.

8:00 am, teams take the tram to the top of the glacier. A mad dash to grab shovels and dig for their hidden clue.

Cool! They have little handheld beacon thingies like GPS devices.

First to dig ... Joe/Bill, CLUE: Fly to Maputo, Mozambique!
Phil: They'll have to use a travel agency. Since departing flights are limited from Ushuaia, teams are all scheduled for 3 pm departure unless they find an earlier flight.

Teams pay attention to the beeping GPS's and search for their clues.

One by one, they all dig.

U/J in 2nd, head for the airport.
Uchenna: Mozambique!
Conf: My father's from Nigeria. I'm excited!

CLUE: You are under no obligation to use the tickets provided.

Danny/Oswald get bitchy (well, bilingual bitchy) as they have problems navigating with the handhelds.

E/D find their clue in 3rd.
Eric: Mozambique.
Danielle: What city is that?
Eric: It's in Africa.
Danielle: Oh!

Ian digs. Got it!
Ian: Hoo-rah!

NEXT CLUES, E/D, followed by Blondes and Charla/Mirna.

At a ticket agent, Joe/Bill are told to check back in a half-hour. Jigga wha?

Still searching, Danny/Oswald: This sucks.

Danny: I'm starting to lose my patience.
Oswald: We're not stupid!

At a travel agent, U/J try to negotiate a better arrival time in Maputo ...

Finally Danny/Oswald get their CLUE, in last place.

E/D at travel agent, whose system is down. Or not showing Maputo. Or something, I'm not sure.

Teri/Ian at another agent, trying to change tickets.

Charla/Mirna and the Blondes.

Teri/Ian offer to help Danny/Oswald in exchange for them negotiating in Spanish. CONFIRMED. Morning departure.
Teri/Ian/Danny/Oswald: YYYY!!!!

The other teams, not so lucky.

Finally, Charla/Mirna get a 9:40 am arrival, better than 3:00 pm from the ticket they already had.
U/J, same plane.
Joe/Bill, same plane.

At a store, Joe/Bill spritz themsleves with cologne.

Phil: Traveling via BA, SP and Jo'burg, all teams.
Find marked cars with drivers.
Find the Apopo Training Field for the next clue.

MAPUTO.
Airport language = Portuguese.

Teams' drivers haul them on the road toward the Aputo Training Ground.

Joe/Bill accuse Eric/Danielle of speeding.
Eric tells a joke that I missed.
"Freaks!"
"Our driver wants to pass you guys!"
"Peace!"
"Freaks, weirdos!"

(Too much drama.)

CLUE, Several teams. Who smells a rat?
Joyce: You!
Phil: One person must get up close and personal with a rat. Trained rats save lives by finding leftover land mines. These teams will use their rat to deactivate a race marker. When the crew "deactivates" it, the team gets its next clue.

Wow, this is really something, watching the rats sniffing along these roped paths.
Uchenna: If the rat didn't signal, I just kept moving him along.

Where the rat stops, there is a mine.

Oswald: I'll set you free, and apply makeup to you!
Ian conf: I used to be afraid of rats, but this one was friendly and doing great things. "Tupac! Find me a mine!"

Guidos' rat finds a hole and starts digging. A mine!
CLUE, Guidos, travel by car to Praca de los Trabahadores.
Phil: In Maputo, the next clue.

Oswald/Danny 2nd to find a mine.
Uchenna's rat finds one.
Imitating Cagney, Ian: You dirty rat!
Ian's rat finds one.
Teams head toward Maputo in the late afternoon sun.

Eric's rat is Xena. Oh, good heavens.

The blondes find something.
Charla's rat, not so much. It's stopped, to clean itself.
E/D leave in 5th.
The blondes leave in 6th.
Charla's rat is still dumbfounded.
Mirna: I wonder what the problem is?
Charla: We might be here a long time.

APOPO Vapour Detection Technology, Vilaculo

Just outside of Vilanculo you can see one of the most bizarre images in the country - rats in harnesses on leads, searching for mines. The civil war that ravaged Mozambique for 17 years has left a legacy of unexploded landmines. The Belgian research organisation APOPO has been successful in training rats as mine detectors. Contact APOPO if you wish to see their work - minefields are dangerous and not areas where you can just turn up unannounced.

Charla and her rat walk the rope line.

Meanwihle, teams return toward Maputo.
Sign indicates TWO ways to Maputo. Teams are stumped.

Charla's rat digs. They get the clue and head back for Maputo.
Charla: We've been in worse situations before.

The statue!
Guidos, CLUE, DETOUR.
Pamper, or Porter?
Phil: Two ways of making a living.
Pamper, paint people's toenails, which is usually done by men. Must earn $1 usd to get the next clue.
Porter, fill ten 45lb bags with coal, carry one of the bags to a specified address for the next clue.

Mozambique is beautiful! I may get to see it this year. Dunno.

But I digress ...

Teams are stuck in traffic.
Several teams' vehicles are stopped in the same place.
Mirna and Charla speak Spaniguese to try to find their destination.
Mirna: Thank goodness for the gentleman!
Mirna: Come on, Charla!
C/M leapfrog into 3rd.
C/M ask man how far to paint nails.
Man: It's not far.
Charla: Can we give you a manicure for money?
They both paint a local's fingernails.

Joe/Bill start filling bags of charcoal, arguing over which of them fills the best. Now they complain about their sensitive hands!

Charla/Mirna attract quite the crowd.

HIV parade downtown! It's World AIDS day.
So that's why teams were delayed.
Danny/Oswald get very emotional.

U/J decide to fill bags.

Oswald/Danny decide to do bags, but "wish I was painting nails!"
Mirna: Excellente! Look how pretty you became!

Dustin/Kandice decide to paint nails.

Eric argues with his cab driver.
Danielle: I can't drive with people like this!

Charla: Pay me, please!
Man pays.
Charla: Grazie!
Mirna: We have enough! YYYY!
C/M, CLUE: Travel by car to the next pitstop.
Phil: Fortaleza, completed in 1781. The oldest building in Maputo. Last team may be eliminated.

Wait a minute! If they are doing all these tasks on one day--it has to be 12/1 because of the AIDS MArch--Ushuaia MUST have been a long pitstop--hence all the meals in the Insider videos!

If it is 12/1--where are we??

Bill/Joe have 6 done.
Uchenna/Joyce start.
Danny/Oswald aren't enjoying this at all.

Woman: Welcome to Maputo.
Charla: What a nice manicure!
Phil: Charla/Mirna, you're team #1.
They hug each other and fall to the ground.
Phil: You've won a trip for 2 to Aruba, and get a massage on the beach!
Both: Wow!

Both: Yeah!

Eric/Danielle decide to do bags.
In last, Teri/Ian consider the options, then decide to do bags.

Wow! Dustin/Kandice do a little girl's fingernails for free.
Everybody: AWWWW!
Finally they get their money and leave, in 2nd.

Eric/Danielle arrive at the charcoal site.
Teri/Ian were taken to the WRONG MARKET!!

Phil: Dustin/Kandice, you are team #2.
Both: Awesome!

Danny/Oswald catch up to Joe/Bill.
Oswald, full of coal markings, take a bag toward a specified address.
Bill/Joe close behind.
Uchenna isn't far behind them.
Danielle: This isn't easy!
Teri/Ian discover they're in the nail-painting market.
Ian chooses to stay.
Ian: Who wants their nails painted?
Nobody seems to need painting.
Maybe the other teams took all the business?
Teri's asking too much. A local negotiates the price down, down, down! Ian agrees.

Joe/Bill deliver coal bag to the address.
Ian paints a second set of nails.
CLUE, Teri/Ian: Last team to check in may be eliminated.

Oswald/Danny find their address.

Joe/Bill get CLUE.
Oswald/Danny get CLUE.
Uchenna hoists a bag on his shoulder.
Danielle: Hurry! How did we get so far behind?
Oswald: Do I look like Rambo?

Eric: We gotta hurry!
Danielle: I'm hurrying!
A local escorts them to their address.
Uchenna tries to find his address.
Eric finds his first.
Eric/Danielle get CLUE, head toward pitstop.
Uchenna, lost, sees E/D and their kids running toward the pitstop.
Uchenna drops the bag.
U to camera: At this point, we don't know which way to go.

COMMERCIAL.

Wait a minute! If they are doing all these tasks on one day--it has to be 12/1 because of the AIDS MArch--Ushuaia MUST have been a long pitstop--hence all the meals in the Insider videos!

If it is 12/1--where are we??
I thought we knew that it was 12/1 ?

Joyce: Watch your step, honey! Oh, they got the kids!
Eric/Danielle run.
Finally U/J find their address, get CLUE in last place.

Ian: Come on, Teri!
Phil: Teri/Ian, you are team #3.
Ian: I don't believe it!

Joe/Bill in a rush to get into the car.
Eric/Danielle give their driver directions.
U/J get in their car, huffing and puffing.

Teams make their way through Maputo.

Bill: NO! This is NOT the fort!

Oswald to Phil: I'm hugging you!
A runaround ensues!
Phil: Oswald/Danny, you are team #4.
Oswald: We didn't come to sissyfoot!

Uchenna: Right there. On the left.

Woman: Welcome to Mozambique.
Phil: Uchenna/Joyce, you are the last team to arrive.
Joyce: Are you kidding?
Phil: I am pleased to tell you, however ...
Uchenna and Joyce shriek.
Phil: That you are not eliminated. But next leg, you are marked for elimination. First, or a 30 minute penalty.

U, conf: We need to rock and roll.
J, conf: Given the competitive people here, 30 minutes can be disastrous. We gotta work like hell. But we can make miracles happen. We certainly did on the last Race.

Maasai dancers wearing shukas, leaping!
Phil: Uchenna misses the mark at the roadblock.
Uchenna tosses a rungu at a mask poised atop a stick.

Airport, Danielle: I don't want to do this anymore!

How could Guido miss the 3:00 ?  It's spoon fed.    :groan:

Because there was no 3pm flight from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires that day to get! 3pm was teh arrival time in Maputo that was guaranteed with the Amazing Race tickets, which any team that is not composed of idiots should beat with minimal effort. They missed the 1033 flight because of the hours of noperation on the chairlift and travel agency delays combined, so the next flight was at 2136. You could see the dusk as the plane with all teams on it departed. The flights from there follow the route and times indicated in my ULTIMATE TIMELINE (it was #1700 on page 69 of SPOILER thread but that may have altered), but the conclusion of 940am arrival on TM300 from Johannesburg was always inescapable for the earliest possible.

The Guidos had no incentive to hurry once they wer locked into a 2136 departure, so they may have returned to the travel agent later that afternoon to get photographed by the person who sent it out on the Internet.

And now it is 12/1 in Maputo--which means a longer Pitstop in Ushuaia right? A whole day maybe?

GEORGIAPEACH, you are asking the right questions but not coming to the conclusion that ties it all together properly:

1. There was an extended pitstop of 36 hours in Ushuaia and the plane left there on Monday night Nov. 28.
2. On the Indian Ocean, the last connecting flight landed in Maputo on Wednesday morning Nov. 30 at 940am.
3. Amazing Race editors played a nasty trick on us again. Teams left Maputo airport to go to INHAMBANE, which is not 45 miles away) and stayed overnight there (not shown on the episode).
4. On Thursday morning Dec. 1, teams did the early morning rat Roadblock at the APOPO training site near Inhambane and then returned by driven vehicle to Maputo. When Danny and Oswald ran into the AIDS Day march in Maputo, it was the afternoon of Dec. 1 when the march logically was.
5. The detours were then done and the pitstop reached in Maputo.

That would make sense--unless there is some other training site 45 miles outside Maputo? But then if the flight arrived 12/1 it would have been too late for all those tasks right? Oh--my head hurts! But why wouldn't they tell us where they really were? I don't remember that happening before...

Try Mauritius. The editors wanted to disguise the time it took to do the detour that was never shown on TV. They listed the distance from a point on the southeast side of the island to near the northern tip as 190 miles when it is only about 45 miles. This was not a simple typing error; it was a deliberate effort to mislead. That is what we are seeing again. The editors either don't have time to show an overnight near Inhambane or don't want to show it for reasons we don't understand. It doesn't matter which, because the net impact on us is identical - an incomplete flow of events. It is barely possible that there really is an APOPO training field 45 miles from Maputo, but don't bet a lot on money on it.

The insider video where uchenna can't tell time shows that were scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires on 11/29 at about 10 AM, which is what you had along right?

Then the teams have a day on the beach so Inhambane is now almost certain because the nicest beaches are there--although this beach looked more like an inlet.

this is going to drive me nuts!

PEACH, I had them landing in Buenos Aires Aeroparque(domestic) at 0056, then needing to tranfer by taxi or bus to EZE, the Buenos Aires International airport. There, a range of flight possibilities were available starting at 0600 through about noon, any one of which would get them to Sao Paulo in time for the 0525 departure of South African Airways flight 206 for Johannesburg.

The insider video of the day at the beach really lends support to my theory that the teams did not do any tasks on Nov. 30. the day they arrived in Mozambique. I think they were given an afternoon at the beach to enjoy from several days of forced captivity on airlines. By that evening they were driven to Inhambane, where they had accommodations somewhere.

I'm drawing a blank.  Was there anything about getting off a ferry and having to run across a bridge during the show?  I don't recall anything like that.  In the Insider Vids Joe mentioned the night before (after having flown all day) that his ailments acted up "getting off the ferry and running across the bridge.  At the same time Joe talked about where they stayed "last night" but didn't say what city.  This was in the truck and I think they were on the way to Maputo after the rats.

This is the video where Joe is complaining about his aches and pains or something like that.

From Metro Newspaper Toronto March 19/07

Detour asks racers to pick: Pamper or porter?
By VAKIS BOUTSALIS
For Metro Toronto
Week Five on The Amazing Race All Stars begins with the eight remaining teams looking for their first clue that’s buried somewhere
on Marshall Glacier in the southern most tip of Argentina. Charla and Mirna are on a high after eliminating pre-race favourites Rob and
Amber last week, while Oswald and Danny struggle and lose their lead. The clue tells teams to fly more than 7,000 miles to Maputo, Mozambique. Once in Mozambique, tempers flare between Eric and Danielle and the Guidos, who have been getting on each other’s nerves all race. A roadblock has teams using trained rats to locate a race marker located over a de-activated mine. Once teams find their marker they head back into Maputo where the next clue is waiting. Mirna and Charla’s high is short-lived as they struggle with the roadblock and the cousins end up falling to the back of the pack. But the drop in position doesn’t faze the scrappy team, which is getting used to fighting back from last place. A detour asks teams to choose between pamper, where they sell manicures in the local market, or porter, where they sew and fill 10 40-pound bags of coal and deliver one to the owner in town. Mirna and Charla are
able to complete the detour the fastest, leading to their first first-place finish ever on Amazing Race. The cousins, who made
most of their money selling manicures to men, take the time to thank all the metrosexuals in the world. Meanwhile, Terri and Ian’s driver takes them to the wrong detour, and the married couple end up selling manicures when they would have rather filled bags with charcoal. It’s a lucky mistake, however, as the couple locates two customers right away and finish the leg in third. Of the teams that do choose to porter, Uchenna and Joyce have the hardest time as they struggle to find the address for their delivery. The charcoal-covered Oswald and Danny are so excited to make it to the finish line in fourth that they chase down the show’s host Phil with their arms wide open. Uchenna and Joyce are last to arrive, but, luckily for them, it is a non-elimination round. The couple is marked for elimination, and will be penalized 30 minutes in the next leg.
